Digital Retribution: When I last interviewed you, you said of the Dead Kennedys reunion, "I thought it was fucking pathetic, though, when The Dead Kennedys went out without Jello as their singer." What I meant to say instead of whatever monosyllabic witticism I spouted is: What's the difference between DK and the reformed Misfits, who GWAR toured with?

Dave Brockie (aka Oderus): I think there is a big difference, but don't expect the original product in either. I like Jerry and I would rather have him out touring and having fun than have him working in his machine shop. You can't blame him for wanting to cash in on how great The Misfits were, and enjoy himself in the process, plus give all of his pals jobs in his crew, and show his kids the time of their lives! So in that aspect, I think Jerry and what's left of The Misfits is cool, as long as you don't go in there expecting to see Glenn Danzig! I feel Jerry has earned the right to do whatever the fuck he wants through 30+ years of dedication to this music. Jerry never lets up, he is always gigging. Whereas the Dead Kennedys thing was just a one-shot money grab. They knew they could get away with it, do a year or two, cash in, and bail...and also, The Misfits actually got away with replacing their singer, with Mike Graves, and did a couple of great records! That was when we toured with them, and that was great! American Psycho is a great fucking album!

With 46 acts spanning multiple genres, all worth at least checking out, and most worth more than that, playing on four stages in a 10 hour period along with side attractions like a bungee jumping thing and a mechanical bull, and with three of us at Fun Fun Fun Fest, it shouldn't be surprising that it took us ONE, TWO, THREE, and now FOUR posts to cover just the pictures from Saturday. They continue below...

Fun Fun Fun Fest

Tim's complete set of pictures from FFF Fest Saturday are split into two posts: HERE and HERE. A third set, that I took with far inferior skills and camera, but that fills in some blanks and includes stuff like a dude being thrown into a pool filled with thumbtacks, a member of Gwar storming the stage during Municipal Waste's set, and people waiting in line to get Wavves' autograph, continues below...

DOWNLOAD: Big K.R.I.T. - Country Shit (MP3)

Big KRIT

On "Country Shit", [Big KRIT] borrows Pimp C's twanged-out elastic sneer and just rides the everliving hell out of his own woozy thump: "I was riding my Screw shit, rims chop-choppin'/ Top droppin', throwing breadcrumbs, crows start flockin'." As a producer, he's an expert sample-chopper, and his track weaves in theremin peals and stuttery sighs and vintage 808 destruction. It's the sort of track you want to use to make sure your car stereo's bass pounds just right. If you don't feel like a superhero while this is playing loud, you need a new system.

Mississippi rapper Big K.R.I.T., who is signed to Def Jam, is in NYC for a show tonight (6/30) at S.O.B.'s where he'll be joined by Curren$y & Smoke DZA (both guests on his album). Tickets are still on sale.

Big K.R.I.T.'s debut LP/mixtape, the self-produced K.R.I.T Wuz Here, Gorilla vs Bear's third favorite album of the first half of the year, is available for free online. Check it out if you're looking for some soulful Southern rap. The above "Country Shit" is on it, as are the two songs in the videos posted, with the full tracklist, below...

"Did ya'll like the motherfucking dancers?" asked Snoop Dogg, as two ladies in skintight red pants exited the stage at Nokia Theatre Thursday night.

"You can say you like them [even if] you got your girl with you," Snoop instructed. "Cause I like your girl. She look good. I think you should know that."

Snoop's hilarious on-stage banter went on for the entire two-hour show - at one point he told the crowd he doesn't even need to ask "if you got your weed tonight." (It was pretty obvious from the clouds of smoke.)

The Doggfather played over two hours - rocking jams like "The Next Episode," "Sexual Eruption" and "Gin and Juice" - and even called Da Brat and Devin the Dude onstage for collaborations. Guests, which included jaw-dropping openers Method Man and RedMan, along with Ice T, Coco and Verne Troyer, danced along from the sidelines. [Poison Ivy]

Nokia Theatre, October 2008

Method Man and Redman

There hasn't been a shortage of Method Man and Redman shows at Nokia Theatre in NYC. They played there over the summer with Ghostface, and did a show there in October of 2008... which Tim took pictures of, but they never saw the light of day. Here they are.

Their next show at the Times Square venue happens tonight (10/29/2009). If you go, get there early because the coolest dude on the bill might just be the dude who plays first on the bill, and that dude is Devin the Dude. Snoop Dogg headlines the show. All dates and more pictures below...
