Diamond Terrifier is the a solo sax/electronic project from Z's Sam Hillmer, who will release a new four-track 12", The Subtle Body Wears A Shadow, on May 28 via Terrible Records. Label head Chris Taylor (also of Grizzly Bear) sat in the producer's chair for the LP, we've got the premiere of the video for "Triple Gem" in this post. Squealing saxophone and eerie atmospherics make this the perfect soundtrack to a late-night creepout. Watch below.

Thurston Moore & Loren Connors at The Stone in July, via (((unartig)))

Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore and avant-garde guitar great Loren Connors, who initially teamed up for a collaborative set over the summer during Spy Music Festival, will again do so for the Northern Spy and LQQK CMJ showcase which happens on October 17 at Public Assembly with Hubble, PC Worship, Diamond Terrifier, The Dreebs, and Devin, Gary & Ross. Tickets for that show are on sale now or you can try to get in with your CMJ badge.

As mentioned, Loren Connors (playing as a duo with Suzanne Langille) shares a bill with Thurston's SY bandmate Lee Ranaldo (who will be playing with his group, Text of Light) at 285 Kent on November 13.

Meanwhile, Thurston Moore plays a local show in NYC TONIGHT (10/10) at Le Poisson Rouge with John Zorn, Jesse Harris, Gary Lucas, Red Baraat, David Amram, TriBeCaStan, Flutterbox and the recently added Violent Femmes frontman Gordan Gano. Tickets for tonight's show are still available.

Blanche Blanche Blanche

Brooklyn label RVNG Intl. is taking part in Bulletin Boards, a group show curated by Matthew Higgs (White Columns Gallery), at Venus Over Manhattan (980 Madison Ave, 3rd Floor) tonight (7/19). Here's what the label has to say about the show:

For this group show, each artist is granted a 3' x 4' bulletin board space. RVNG invited a select group of musicians from different points on the avant spectrum to contribute an object to be used as a percussion arranged and affixed to the bulletin board and "played" by [David] Van Tieghem.

This performance will be multi-tracked in high definition before the opening. We will offer the recorded performance back to the contributing musicians to "re-animate" into original piece / recordings. These recordings will be culled and assembled by Van Tieghem and RVNG / The Sound of White Columns into a limited edition album for the FRKWYS.

Van Teighem will be performing at the opening tonight (7/19) and there wil be DJ sets by Matt from RVNG, Matthew HIggs, and Nick Relph. Participating artists in the show include Blanche Blanche Blanche, DIamond Terrifier, Future Shuttle (in conjunction with Anna Gonick), Hiro Kone, Robert Lange (Helado Negro), Megafortress, and more. Laurel Halo at MoMA PS1 in 2011 (more by Amanda Hatfield)

Producer turned art pop wizard Laurel Halo and post-hardcore noisemaker turned producer Ital are teaming up for a tour together later this year. That tour hasn't been announced in full yet but a few dates have been revealed, including a NYC show at 285 Kent on September 21. That show, the DC date, and possibly others are also with M. Geddes Gengras and Magic Touch.

For Laurel Halo, the 285 Kent date is one of many upcoming shows in her hometown of Brooklyn, where she continues to play constantly. Laurel just played a show as part of The Maze last Friday (7/13), and she'll play the previously discussed show at Public Assembly on Saturday (7/21) with Pete Swanson, Noveller and Burning Star Core. Tickets for that show are still available. She's also got upcoming local shows in August, including one at Cameo Gallery on August 2 with Xeno and Oaklander and Telepathe. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Still more: she'll play the Diamond Terrifier (aka Sam Hillmer of Zs) record release show for Kill the Self That Wants To Kill Yourself (due out 8/14 via Northern Spy and produced by Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear) at Littlefield on August 8 with Slava (who also plays countless local shows) and Bubbles. Tickets for that show are available. That show happens after Diamond Terrifier wraps up his monthly residency at Zebulon which happens every Tuesday (like tonight [7/17]). Like Laurel did, Diamond Terrifier also plays a Maze show. His is on July 28 with Amen Dunes, Kel Valhaal: Hunter Hunt-Hendrix, Psychic Reality, Dome Theater, and Das Racist DJs.

Speaking of Telepathe, they play Glasslands on Wednesday (7/18) with Feathers, ERAAS, and Faith. Tickets for that show are available. Faith recently remixed a Feathers song, which you can listen to below. Telepathe also DJ Santos on Friday (7/20 for a Last.fm event with Blondes, TEZEO and Andy Petr. Tickets for that show are available.

Some of you may remember art installation The Maze which took over Death by Audio back in Fall 2009 and at at Chashama's Visual Arts Space in 2009. Well it's back, as the You Are Here Festival has returned for a month-long residency at Secret Project Robot Gallery in Bushwick (389 Melrose St) from July 12 - Aug 4.

Just like in previous years, the festival will include a "gigantic life size maze", and will host a grip of performers on Thursday - Saturday during their stay at the space. Thursday's kickoff event (7/12) features Miho Hatori's New Optimism, ZS, Bachanalia, Ann Liv Young and DJ JG Thirlwell of various Foetus incarnations. Other performers throughout the month include Xeno and Oaklander, Hubble, Mick Barr, Dan Friel, Zs, VAZ, Amen Dunes, Extra Life, Diamond Terrifier and many many more. Full schedule for "You are Here" is below including details on the art exhibitions at the space.

The festival is also readying a limited mixtape, featuring unheard/rare tracks from many of the performers scheduled for the event. Get a copy at the shows and at the You Are Here site, and check out "Hubble Potatoes" by Hubble which appears on said comp below.

In related news, both Diamond Terrifier and Hubble will perform at Zebulon tonight (7/10), joining Excepter and Hagfish & Poet Lounge. The show is part of a month-long residency durated by Diamond Terrifier (Sam Hillmer of Zs) on Tuesdays at the venue. The remainder of shows will feature a Patrick Higgins electro-acoustic set with Sleng Teng, and Tetryl Red on 7/17, ATM, with Psychic Reality, and Chuck Bettis on 7/24, and the final show on 7/31 with Talibam!, Violet Raid, Sun Watchers, and GADDFJXR.

The second-annual Spy Music Festival happens June 29th through July 15th, featuring "46 sets of music at 7 venues in Manhattan and Brooklyn." That's a big expansion from last year when it took place on two nights at Shea Stadium and Zebulon. This year's fest, run by the folks at Northern Spy Records, will happen at Union Pool, the Issue Project Room, The Stone, Vaudeville Park, 285 Kent, Death by Audio and Roulette. Amongst the artists performing are Rhys Chatham, Matthew Shipp, Dustin Wong, Arthur Doyle, Eugene Chadbourne, PG Six, Guardian Alien and Magik Markers.

The full Spy Music Festival schedule -- bands, venues, prices -- is below. There's no all-inclusive festival pass, but tickets to all the shows are available here. And the fest organizers have also made a sampler featuring the artists performing this year and you can stream that below as well.

Oneohtrix Point Never at MHOW in 2010 (more by Erez Avissar)

Oneohtrix Point Never (aka Daniel Lopatin) has a few upcoming shows in March including two NYC shows, the Jeff Mangum-curated ATP in Minehead and SXSW where he is exclusively playing the Mexican Summer showcase.

The first NYC show is a Red Bull Music Academy Session at The Studio at Webster Hall on March 6. The session starts with a conversation with Daniel Lopatin which ends with a Q&A, and then he'll play a free a show at the venue with an opening set by special guest Cubic Zirconia. Oneohtrix Point Never will then play a Brooklyn show three days later at 285 Kent on 3/9 with Touch Here to Resume (aka MV Carbon and Ynot Darnoc), Diamond Terrifier, for whom the show doubles as a release show for his "Shrine Flu" tape, La Big Vic, and Win Win (DJs). Diamond Terrifier

Diamond Terrifier (aka Sam Hilmer of Zs) is introducing his new bi-weekly series, 'PRACTICE!' taking place at Zebulon every other Tuesday. This month it takes place on January 17 and 31, and he's performing at and curating each one. The 1/17 show includes Lichens, Hunter Hunt-Hendrix (of Liturgy who are opening for Zola Jesus at Webster Hall), LZA/Dutch E. Germ (of Gang Gang Dance), and DJ sets by Laurel Halo and The Oracle. The 1/31 show includes Dan Friel< GDFX, Rat Attack, and DJ sets by Chief Boima (of Dutty Artz) and The Oracle. All shows in this series are free.

Diamond Terrifier also has a bunch of other shows coming up in NYC this month, including one TONIGHT (1/10) at Spectacle Theater in Brooklyn, where he will perform a live score for the film Shaman of the Blind Country, narrated by William S. Burroughs. He also plays Shea Stadium on Saturday (1/14) with Controlled Bleeding and Dan Friel, and Littlefield on January 18 with Patrick Higgins and Eric Wubbles (tickets). The next night he'll be in Brooklyn again at La Sala (1/19) with Extra Life, and Union Pool on January 24 with Dan Friel, Zulus and Grooms.

Diamond Terrifier is also set to release his first official full length this September via Northern Spy. The album will be produced by Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear. Until then, he's been releasing a single every month on his website. Karp was a post-hardcore band from Tumwater, Washington, that formed in 1990 and lasted until 1998. The band was formed by Chris Smith aka Chris "Slayer", Jared Warren, and Scott Jernigan. They released three full length albums entitled Mustaches Wild, Suplex, and Self Titled LP. (Note that "Self Titled LP" is a literal title. The title is not "Karp." Even the CD version of the record is titled "Self Titled LP.") They also released several EPs and 7" records. Their recordings were released by several Northwest-related labels such as K Records, Kill Rock Stars, and Punk In My Vitamins. Karp managed to mix the terror of hardcore, The Melvins, and Black Sabbath with an ear for pop-influenced song assembly. The band name is inspired from a newsletter/zine that Chris Smith put out in highschool and is an acronym that stands for "Kill All Redneck Pricks".

Members went on to play with Tight Bro's from Way Back When, The Whip, Dead Air Fresheners, and Big Business (currently playing with The Melvins). Drummer Scott Jernigan died in a boating accident on June 10, 2003.

As previously discussed, Kill All Redneck Pricks is a documentary that examines the much missed band, and debuts in NYC tomorrow, 1/6, at The Spectacle Theater (South 3rd near Bedford) with two showings (7:30 and 9:30). After the movie head to an after-party at Death By Audio featuring Vaz and Pygmy Shrews. Check out a trailer, some clips from the film, and a list of other cities the movie is playing in, below. Spectacle Theater will host a bunch of music related films in the coming weeks as part of "ROCKUARY", "music-themed special events and films of all kinds- ranging from features, documentaries, shorts, remixes, live performances, and many special guests." The current slate of films include a documentary on Friends Forever, Shamans of The Blind Country (which will be scored by Diamond Terrifier), a documentary on Morrissey's impact on Latino culture (Passions Just Like Mine), Deadlock (which was scored by Can) and much much more. Tonight (7/6) is the first of three chances you'll have to check out Noveller, the guitar-based soundscapes project of Sarah Lipstate, over the next two weeks. The show is at Public Assembly, where she's on a bill with JACK Quartet (who've been playing around town quite a bit, including a set at the BoaC marathon) and Zs (performing as a trio). After that, Noveller plays Thursday at Coco 66 and next Tuesday (7/15) at Shea Stadiumwith Zs-related Diamond Terrifier (video below).

Noveller recently released a new record, Glacial Glow, which you can hear-- along with the rest of the Noveller catalog--on Bandcamp. The disc takes a different approach than 2010's stellar Desert Fires, swapping its broad, meaty textures for a more spare, melodic sound. That same approach carries over into Matt Kleiner's video for new song "Alone Star," which captures the urban landscapes of Sydney and Melbourne in stark black & white.
