While I was polishing off my night at Emo's and Red 7 during the fourth night of Chaos in Tejas, Keith Marlowe and Harriet Roberts were checking out an awesome punk show at Mohawk. His report is below. - BBG

Fucked Up
Chaos in Tejas

Night Birds played a song about their friend Dave, the singer for Tear It Up, who broke his arm in a motorcycle accident. It was called "Dave's Only Got One Arm" which was also the song's only lyrics. I think it's gonna be a big, big hit. Dave confided to me that the week before Chaos in Tejas is a bad time to break an arm, especially if you're planning to get in the pit for Cro-Mags. He still managed to sell merch for the Night Birds, even with only one arm.

The members of Toys That Kill had a lot of energy, considering that members also played as FYP and in Underground Railroad to Candyland this weekend. The Slowmotions also played multiple shows this weekend, and left Texas for a west coast tour before heading back to Japan.

During their first song, Damian, the singer for Fucked Up jumped off stage and immediately began giving everyone in the audience, sweaty, meaty hugs. He started a circle pit that swirled around him and a guy on the speaker stack kept the mic cord elevated above the fray. Damian told the crowd how Austin, and Chaos in Tejas specifically, was the first place he had the self-confidence to take his shirt off, inspiring dudes in the audience, fat and skinny, to take theirs off too. After climbing up to the second story he pretended to stage dive off the railing, and laughed "What are you, crazy? We'd all die..." at the people who got ready to catch him. He got back in the crowd and impressively managed to keep singing while multiple people bounced off him simultaneously.

Chaos in Tejas

Dillinger 4 ended the night at Mohawk with a set that kept everybody in the crowd moving after Fucked Up. The singer claimed to have a contact buzz from weed smoke in the crowd, and told the audience, "If we turn into a jam band tonight, it's your fault." He also called out to Mike from the Night Birds, to see if he was still in the crowd, and when he got no response, he urged everyone to get on twitter after the show and claim Mike was a white power supporter.

[ED: Keith then caught some of Capitalist Casualties -- pictures are HERE.]

The last show I caught was Career Suicide at Beerland, it was at the end of the night the place was beyond packed and I had to crush my way up to the front. It was really dark and so sweaty my lens kept steaming up, but luckily there was plenty of beer flying around to wash it off with. The atmosphere reminded me of a scene from Fight Club, especially after one guy hit the ground with a broken nose, and the guy next to me who resembled the Thing kept smashing his bloody forehead into mine. Markus, the singer from the Boston band Brain Killer, was up front screaming along. After the show I saw the dude with the busted nose out front and he asked me to take a photo and show it to him, so he could see if his nose was straight. I told him it was straight enough and he probably didn't need to hit the emergency room. He thanked me and blew a bunch of blood on the ground. It was a fitting end to Chaos and Tejas.

F Yeah Tour

F*%! Yeah Fest is an annual music/comedy/art festival held in Los Angeles at the end of each summer curated by 22 year old Sean Carlson and Keith Morris from The Circle Jerks & Black Flag. This year will be the fifth installment and it will take place in an outdoor setting in downtown LA on August 30th & 31st and will now be known as F Yeah Fest. It's been Carlson's goal for some time now to take the festival on the road, bringing the spirit of the festival to other cities, and now for the first time that dream has become a reality with the first annual F YEAH TOUR '08, featuring many bands and comedians that have become staples / favorites at the festival. The Fest will be touring in a 44 passenger '92 Bluebird Bus. The only goal for this tour is to have fun.
The NYC shows are Circle Jerks, DILLINGER FOUR, Matt & Kim & Team Robespierre @ Highline Ballroom on July 12th (TICKETS), a Monotonix show at a TBA location later that night, and a show at Club Exit in Brooklyn the very next day with every single one of those bands. BrooklynVegan is an official F Yeah tour partner which means we'll be documenting their 28-day adventure in some form or another (stay tuned for exact details). All dates and lineups below.....
