" [Dios member] Morales says that, even after the [2004] letter, he was still opposed to changing the band name [from Dios to something else], but went with Dios (Malos) after a long, arduous process in which Dio's lawyers shot down many proposed alternatives. "I thought we should've used the silliness of the whole thing to get our name out more, maybe not even change the name at all and let him sue us," says Morales. "It would've been hilarious and would've been a good story. But there were too many [wimps] in Camp Dios at the time, so no one wanted to go to war with me."With a new record label, Buddyhead, supporting them, Dios is back to their original one-word name, boldly announced in the title of their new album, 'We Are Dios,' which drops in late July." Startime 2005 CMJ Showcase @ Scenic w/ Tom Vek, Dios, etc..
Chin Up Chin Up-date
September 15th, 2005 @ Scenic
StarTime International Records showcase w/ The Silent League, Foreign Born, The Natural History, The Joggers, Dios Malos and Tom Vek.
This is yet another CMJ show (in a very small venue) not to be missed that falls on 9/15 (Tom Vek being especially key on this one). As Central Village pointed out, Cloud Cult, The Wrens, Goblin Cock, etc... all happen on this date. The Amadou and Miriam show is this day too. And its all the same day as the Arcade Fire / Wolf Parade(supposedly) show at Summerstage which was obviously a genius move by CMJ to keep all the New Yorkers (who are all now in possession of advanced tickets) out of the showcases so that out-of-towners could get in.

Dios Malos opened for the Fiery Furnaces @ Webster Hall on April 9th, 2005. Dios (as they were known at the time) put out an album I really liked in 2004. After the show, I went to the Dios afterparty at Kate's Joint.

(warning: potentially disturbing photos below the fold)

Saturday night started like any other Saturday night. I attended the Fiery Furnaces show at Webster Hall. Dios Malos opened. It was an early concert because Webster Hall wants the indie rockers out before the regulars arrive. Dios invited the crowd to join them at Kate's Joint after the show. For those that don't know, Kate's Joint is one of the finest vegetarian establishments in NYC. I hadn't had dinner, so I convinced everyone I was with to take Dios up on their offer.

We took a taxi from Webster (11th St & 3rd Ave) to Kate's (4th St & Ave B). Heading east on 10th, "Hotel California" was playing on the radio (related: the Eagles just happened to be in town). The cab driver was cursing about all the traffic that day. We were making ourselves laugh. Suddenly there was a commotion in front of us. People ran into the street to tell us to stop driving forward. We looked ahead, and saw a body lying twisted in the road.
