BRMC @ T5 earlier this year (more by Dana [distortion] Yavin)
BRMC

Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows. Here are some highlights...

Buke and Gase, Patrick Higgins, Mivos Quartet @ Le Poisson Rouge
Experimental pop duo Buke & Gase make their own instruments (bass/uke and guitar/bass, get it?) and they also make some really interesting sounds with them. They headline this bill at LPR tonight, which doubles as a release party for the new Patrick Higgins double-LP.

The New Yorker Festival
The annual compendium of erudite discussions and other fun stuff starts tonight. You might consider checking out the talk with Boardwalk Empire star, Deerhoof fan and generally intense dude Michael Shannon who will also perform with his indie rock band Corporal.

California X, Turnip King, Body Parts, Total Slacker (DJ Set) @ 285 Kent Avenue
Equal parts sludge, punk, and indie rock, Amherst's California X simply rock, and as great as their record is, they're a band you really have to see live. Long Island indie rock traditionalists Turnip King open and they're worth catching too.

What Cheer? Brigade, Ski Lodge, Caged Animals @ Cheap Storage
Go for the very catchy indie pop sounds of Ski Lodge and Caged Animals, stay for Providence, RI's 19-piece brass band What Cheer?

Oneida, Dump @ Glasslands
Brooklyn stalwarts Oneida are always worth seeing, and tonight is with Dump (aka James McNew of Yo La Tengo).

Ken Vandermark, Nate Wooley, Jacques Demierre & Vincent Barras @ Issue Project Room
PR continues its 10-year Anniversary tonight with Chicago Saxophonist/composer Ken Vandermark and New York trumpet stalwart Nate Wooley.

Massive Attack V Adam Curtis @ Park Avenue Armory
Trip hop pioneers Massive Attack have collaborated with filmmaker Adam Curtis for this thought-provoking sensory overload. Reggae legend Horace Andy and Cocteau Twins vocalist Liz Fraser add to the experience. Just don't expect a traditional concert. Tonight's the final night, sold out.

Blondie, X @ Roseland Ballroom
These two classic punk bands have been on tour together for a while, and tonight they pass through Blondie's hometown for a Roseland Ballroom show. Blondie have a new record on the way, so expect some stuff from that, in addition to tons of classics.

Dan Friel, Bambara, Psychic Blood, Bennio Qwerty @ Shea Stadium
Brooklyn's Bambara get loud, and they're about to head out on a European tour with a couple likeminded bands (A Place to Bury Strangers, METZ) but before that they play one last hometown show at Shea tonight. Also on the bill are Brooklyn's Bennio Qwerty and Mass' Psychic Blood, who have a similar taste for loud, raging rock, and ex-Parts & Labor member Dan Friel.

Pictureplane @ Mishka Store (350 Broadway)
He opens for Girl Talk Saturday at Brooklyn Bowl, but you can catch Travis Egedy even sooner and for free in a store this early evening (the event runs 7-10pm)

Fountains of Wayne, Soul Asylum, Evan Dando @ The Space at Westbury
This is the first show for Bowery Presents' latest venue, The Space at Westbury, and features a nostalgic '90s evening of alt-rock favorites.

Dave Hill

Todd Barry, Dave Hill, Valley Lodge, Walter Schreifels, Brooke Van Poppelen, T. Berry @ Union Hall
Dave Hill pulls double duty tonight as host and leader of house band Valley Lodge at this evening of "comedy, music and gunplay." Todd Barry and Walter Schreifels (Quicksand, etc) are among the guests. Tickets are still available.

Screening of 'Nightclubbing' w/ Emily Armstrong & Pat Ivers @ The Newsroom

In the summer of 1975 on New York's Lower East Side, Pat Ivers and a group of like-minded videographers with borrowed cameras set out to capture as much of New York City's exploding punk music scene as possible. After an early disbanding of the original group, Ivers found a sole partner in Emily Armstrong and the two continued the project for a total of five years, capturing legendary performances at CBGB's, Mudd Club, Danceteria and elsewhere by iconic bands and artists such as Iggy Pop, Dead Boys, The Cramps and more. Ivers and Armstong continued filming until a 1980 arrest, along with the entire staff of the illegally operated Danceteria, convinced them to stop (the pair were quickly exonerated and freed).
The filmmakers screen archive excerpts and talk with Richard Boch (Mudd Club) and Pat Irwin (Raybeats, B52's). 7PM.

Ceramic Dog (w/ Marc Ribot) @ Union Pool
Marc Ribot is a man of many projects. He's a well-known Tom Waits collaborator, and lately he's been doing some gigs with John Zorn. Tonight he takes his power trio Ceramic Dog to Union Pool.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Restavrant @ Warsaw
Denim, leather, garagey riffs and sneery attitude is what's in store tonight with BRMC.

Herbie Hancock @ The Capitol Theatre
Jazz/fusion legend Herbie Hancock has been a master of the keys for decades, and he's got plenty of great diverse material to pull from, making this NYC-area show a sure-to-be interesting night.

Steely Dan @ Beacon Theatre
Donald Fagen and Walter Becker continue their seven-night run at Beacon, and tonight they'll be performing their 1980 album, Gaucho, in full plus "selected hits."

Foster Care, Teenager, Raccoon Fighter, Slothbear @ Cake Shop
One of NYC's best garage punk bands, Foster Care headline this show tonight but don't miss Toronto's awesome Teenanger who have previously toured with METZ.

Weird Owl, Ancient Sky, The Nuclears @ Death By Audio
NYC psych band Weird Owl are set to pop out their new album, Healing, via TeePee records and tonight's the record release show. Just know that whenever you tell someone you're going to see Weird Owl, expect "Eat It" or "Like a Surgeon" jokes.

Dita Von Teese @ The Gramercy Theatre
Burlesque superstar Dita Von Teese concludes her four-night run at Gramercy.

Emiliana Torrini @ Apple Store SoHo
Emiliana Torrino, whose new album Tookah is out via Rough Trade, makes a somewhat random and rare appearance at the Apple Store today at 8pm.

The Flaming Lips at Wellmont Theatre in May (more by Dominick Mastrangelo)
Flaming Lips

Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows. Here are some highlights...

The Flaming Lips, Tame Impala, The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger @ Terminal 5
Two bands who love making far-out psychedelia, but not without keeping a sense of pop in mind -- The Flaming Lips and Tame Impala -- team up to co-headline two nights at Terminal 5. Opening both nights is The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, because with that much psychedelic pop at one show, you gotta have a Lennon on the bill, right?

Big Boi, Killer Mike @ Brooklyn Bowl
Big Boi's currently the more active member of Outkast and while his solo stuff isn't anything to ignore, you can usually count on hearing tons of 'Kast at his shows too. His frequent collaborator and fellow ATLien Killer Mike opens the show.

Liam McEneaney @ The Bell House
Funny guy Liam EcEneaney is throwing a release party for his new CD, Comedian, and has invited a bunch of equally clever friends Christian Finnegan, Jim Gaffigan, Todd Barry, Gilbert Gottfried, Hannibal Buress, plus musical guests Starlight Girls and The Summer Replacements. Tickets are still available.

Fountains of Wayne, Soul Asylum, Evan Dando @ State Theatre (NJ)
Fountains of Wayne headline this nostalgia-tinged tour that includes fellow '90s alt-stars Soul Asylum and Evan Dando. Don't be ashamed to sing along. This tour has two more NYC-area shows, playing Port Chester's Capitol Theater tomorrow, and then on Saturday (10/5) will be at Webster Hall.

Steely Dan @ Beacon Theatre
Donald Fagen and Walter Becker continue their seven-night run at Beacon, and theme of tonight's show is "Greatest Hits Night." So no need to scream for "Rikki Don't Lose That Number," they're probably going to play that. Tickets are still available.

Jenny Hval, Ludwig Persik @ Mercury Lounge
Norway's Jenny Hval makes the kind of forward-thinking art pop that falls somewhere between Laurie Anderson and PJ Harvey. Tonight's her first of two NYC shows. Check out the kinda NSFW video for "Innocence Is Kinky," below.

Warpaint, DJ Nelleke @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
It's been over two years since LA dream pop quartet Warpaint were in NYC, but that finally changes tonight. There's been talk of a new album -- which will be their first since their 2010 debut -- so hopefully we'll hear some of that new stuff tonight. Sold out.

Jagwar Ma, DJ Angus Gruzman @ Glasslands
Australia's Jagwar Ma, whose debut album owes much to the '90s baggy scene, made their American debut at Mercury Lounge last night and tonight they're at Glasslands. Sold out but they'll be back in December.

Prince Rama @ Clocktower Gallery
Tonight is the premiere of Prince Rama's film, Never Forever, a free-form bit of strangeness that includes both the "twisted world of a post-apocalyptic gym queen" and a "VR robot turned pop star." It looks kind of like The Apple? After the film there's a lecture, "Pop Music and the Apocalypse," from singer Taraka Larson. The event is sold-out but you can check out the trailer below.

Tyvek, Shark?, Darlings, Juan Wauters (The Beets) @ Death By Audio
On their way back from Goner Fest, Detroit noise punks Tyvek stop by Death by Audio to trash the place with a fine line-up of local openers.

Aaron Dilloway and Richard Pinhas, Matthew Regula, John Mannion, On a Clear Day @ Saint Vitus
Former Wolf Eyes' dude Aaron Dilloway tonight will play a collaboritive show with Richard Pinhas of '70s French prog band Heldon for what surely be some mind-expanding sounds.

Twin Peaks, Lost Boy?, Flagland, The Teen Age @ Shea Stadium
Chicago youngsters Twin Peaks make sprightly indie rock are back in town for two shows, and tonight's show also features The Teen Age who make equally catchy guitar pop.

Dita Von Teese @ Gramercy Theatre
Burlesque superstar Dita Von Teese continues her four-night run at Gramercy.

For all of tonight's shows, and tomorrow's, check out our full NYC show calendar.

The World/Inferno Friendship Society annual Halloween show at Warsaw is still on.

285 Kent, however, cancelled their Halloween show tonight. Organizer Todd P says, "We had to cancel Halloween, but it was not 285 Kent's decision; the organizers and bands involved [cancelled]. We would 100% do it and are pretty determined to book something else."

The Meter Men and other shows at BB King's appear to be happening.

Bad news from Dita Von Teese "Regrettably, all NYC StripStripHooray shows are cancelled. Tix will be refunded by LiveNation, & we will be back in early 2013. I'm sorry"

The Reckless Kelly show at Bowery Ballroom has been postponed.

The Halloween party at The DL with Designer Drugs has been postponed.

Le Poisson Rouge still lists shows for tonight as of this post, but has no power, so cancellations are likely. Dita Von Teese

Dita Von Teese is scheduled to play four Halloween-time burlesque shows at NYC's Gramercy Theater on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday...

Latest Strip Strip Hooray NYC update: if you have tickets for the Oct 30th show, that may be moved to Thursday, November 1st to a late night 2nd show. More updates coming, but this looks like our best solution due to the storm and transportation issues for ticket holders. I will confirm this sometime tomorrow.
xx
Tomorrow is today. We're standing by. Meanwhile, check ticketmaster for tickets.

UPDATE: Tuesday's show is cancelled, and a 2nd show on Thursday has been added. Dita says:

Like other NYC shows, tomorrow's StripStripHooray! show is cancelled. Tix will be refunded & we are adding a 2nd show on Thursday night, so I will be posting that link soon. Unfortunately, you must buy new tickets for that show. More info to come, stay tuned & stay safe! VIP Meet & Greet ticketholders will be contacted individually by phone.
And then she said:
Http://Teese.us/4x to buy tickets for Thursday's makeup show.
I know that many of you will find reasons to be angry about the cancellation, but all the shows are closing, plus we have no choice because there is no power and no transportation for people trying to make it to the shows. (Not to mention no tech rehearsals!) The good news is that right now, you can get good tickets for the Tuesday show if you act fast...plus it's our last show, so it will be the wildest one! We promise!
Thank you for understanding.
Meanwhile, I am here playing UNO by candlelight at my hotel with friends.
Looking forward to basking in the pink spotlight!

Dita Von Teese

Most people get dressed up for Halloween but burlesque superstar Dita Von Teese will be taking it off for a three night stand at Gramercy Theatre on Oct. 30 - Nov. 1. The show, titled "Burlesque: Strip Strip Hooray" is being MC'd by Murray Hill and also features Dirty Martini, Catherine D'Lish, Selene Luna, Perle Noire and Monsieur Romeo. Tickets are on sale now.

If you're a Top Chef fan, you may have seen Dita (who turns 40 on Friday [9/28]) recently on Top Chef Masters where she turned host Curtis Stone into a giggling schoolboy and displayed serious food knowledge as well. You can watch that clip below.

Meanwhile, for all your burlesque needs, head to the Bell House for the 10th Annual New York Burlesque Festival starting tonight (9/27).

NIN in Atlantic City, NJ (more by Zach Dilgard)
NIN

Got a few weeks to kill? Time to break out that new hard drive that you got over the holidays.

"The internet is full of surprises these days.
I was contacted by a mysterious, shadowy group of subversives who SOMEHOW managed to film a substantial amount (over 400 GB!) of raw, unedited HD footage from three separate complete shows of our Lights in the Sky tour. Security must have been lacking at these shows because the quality of the footage is excellent". -Trent Reznor
And in the forum....
There is about 405gb of HD footage available. It was recorded with multiple consumer HDV cameras during three shows: Victoria 12.05.08, Portland 12.07.08, and Sacramento 12.12.08.

This is raw, unedited, un-color-corrected HD footage. It will be primarily of interest to advanced users, who may wish to attempt to edit it together into something. It could be really interesting to see what creative users can put together using this and other fan-recorded footage. These guys are off to a great start already.

...The footage is available as a free download via bitTorrent. If you don't know what bitTorrent is, please go to this link and read every word of it before you ask anyone on the forums what to do with the torrent files. [NIN Forum]

The release of these torrents has PC World asking if NIN is the first "open source band". If so, there's more proof that open source is the way to go, because despite giving away their album Ghosts I-IV for free, it was Amazon's best selling digital album of 2008.

In related news...

NIN's other new album "The Slip" is still available as a free download.

NIN keyboared player Alessandro Cortini has left the band "to concentrate on his own projects".

Marilyn Manson wants Dita Von Teese and Trent Reznor to testify in court.

Jim DeRogatis says the Trent-produced Saul Williams album Niggy Tardust was one of the best of 2008.

NIN are playing some shows in Australia in February. No other tour dates at this time.

'Miss C's arm tatoos, Billy Bragg lyric included (Neil Fitzgerald)
tattootattoo

What and where is your tattoo?
It's the start of a half sleeve on my right arm. So far it pictures Jenna Jameson and Dita von Teese (just missing a third girl) with Mucha style flowers and vines around them. It also says "to have an to have not" at the very top.

What does your tattoo mean to you?
Each of the girls I look up to in some way. Jenna was the 1st woman to take the sex industry and be the boss and take charge instead of being used like to many girls before her. She has also been through a lot in her life and is still going strong. For me she represents a strong independent woman. Dita to me is one aspect of what a woman should be. She's smart, classy and does her own thing. The Mucha aspect just comes from a love of his (and that movement) of art. "To have and to have not" is the title of a Billy Bragg song. I've always loved the song and what it means. In the context of my tattoo it reminds me to keep my feet on the ground. [Miss C talks about her tattoos]

Billy Bragg is opening for the Pogues on March 16th at Roseland Ballroom in NYC. Tickets are still available. No opener has been announced for the sold out March 15th show. Still no St. Pattys show either. All Pogues dates here. All Billy Bragg dates below....
