Andrew Broder is a mainstay of the Minneapolis scene both in the band Cloax Ox and his eclectic solo project, Fog. There hasn't been a Fog album since 2007's Ditherer (which featured Andrew Bird, Phil Elverum, Yoni Wolf and more) but that changes on April 29 when For Good is released via Totally Gross National Product. (May 13 in the UK/EU.) Broder recorded it, in part, with Brian Joseph at Justin Vernon's April Base Studios in Wisconsin and it features production help from Dntel and Doseone. It's much more electronic-leaning than previous Fog albums, as you can hear on its tense, brooding first single,"Trying." The video for that song premieres in this post and says Broder:

We all have struggles in life. Some of us struggle to express our real feelings, our love. Some of us struggle to grow up. Some of us struggle with addiction, or just struggle to stay calm and get through the day. Yet, we press on as best we can because after all we are just dumb animals, surviving, trying to get free.

The song "Trying," and its accompanying video are my loving tribute and homage to those struggles, and an embrace of them and the universal feelings of clumsy, earnest and mundane efforts that we all share, all different kinds of people.

Or rather, "You do what you gotta do"

Struggles, in this video at least, include Broder trying to tie a tie. Watch it, and check out For Good's tracklist and artwork, below...

Color Therapy

Ambient/electronic Dallas musician Color Therapy is releasing his debut album, Mr. Wolf Is Dead, next week (3/24) (pre-order), and while you may not be familiar with Color Therapy, there's a good chance you know some of the album's guests, The Album Leaf, Ulrich Schnauss, Helios and Hammock. if you like those artists, you'll probably dig this too. The album's full of chilled-out late-night jams that structurally recall post-rock but sound more like Tycho, the Drive soundtrack, or an instrumental M83. A full stream of the album premieres below.

Album track "Screw Eyes" was recently remixed by Dntel, and Color Therapy himself remixed Mogwai's "Heard About You Last Night." You can stream both of those below too.

Speaking of The Album Leaf, they're playing some shows this year including a free NYC show on April 18 at Brooklyn Night Bazaar with The Tablets and Han Demo. All of their dates are listed below.

Sun Araw at BV-SXSW 2012 (more by Nate "Igor" Smith)
Sun Araw

Sun Araw and M. Geddes Gengras took part in one of 2012's most interesting (relatively) obscure releases with Icon Give Thank, a collaborative album with reggae legends/Lee "Scratch" Perry associates The Congos. And towards the end of the year, the three collaborators released a 5-track live EP recorded with the Raw Power Band at the Village Underground in London this past June. You can download that EP (name your price) at bandcamp and stream the whole thing below.

Both Sun Araw and M. Geddes Gengras are teaming up this month for a NYC show which happens on January 19 at Knitting Factory with Ital, who toured with M Geddes Gengras (and Laurel Halo) in 2012 around the time he dropped Dream On, his second album of 2012. Tickets for that show are on sale now. It's the only currently announced date for Sun Araw but Ital has other upcoming dates, which are listed below.

Sun Araw is featured on an upcoming double album compilation from Stones Throw and Leaving Records (Matthewdavid's label) called Dual Form which drops January 22 in cassette, LP, CD, and digital formats. The compilation also features Julia Holter (covering Arthur Russell), Dntel, Run DMT, Odd Nosdam and many more. You can stream Sun Araw's contribution, "Right Off," and check out the full tracklist below. The cassette version features bonus tracks by Matthewdavid.

All streams and a list of Ital dates below...

Jimmy Tamborello, better known as Dntel (or perhaps even better known as one half of The Postal Service), is going on tour this summer with The One AM Radio and Geotic. That tour includes Music Hall of Williamsburg on August 18 . Tickets for the Brooklyn show go on sale Friday (6/10) at noon. All dates are listed below.

On July 5th Dntel also plays a one-off LA show with Seefeel who will be on a rare but short US tour that also visits NYC.

Back at the end of 2010 Dntel released some stuff via his label Sub Pop who also promised more coming soon. They wrote:

On Dec. 7th, 2010 we are releasing new music from Dntel in the form of a pair of companion EPs, entitled After Parties 1 and (very sensibly, given their complementary relationship) After Parties 2. These two EPs collect 8 new Dntel tracks (3 on After Parties 1 and 5 on After Parties 2) which are a bit more minimalist and experimental in nature, all of them instrumental, and feature (to the best of our "knowledge") a list of guest contributors numbering exactly zero. These 8 new tracks are also, we are able to discern even through the mist of biases both personal and professional, really something special.

Both After Parties 1 and After Parties 2 will be available on 12" vinyl and as weightless, odorless digital audio files; neither will be available on CD.

It is worth mentioning here that at some as-yet-undefined point in 2011 we will be releasing an expanded reissue of Dntel's 2001 full-length Life Is Full of Possibilities, which is not only a great record, but notable for, among a great many other things, including the collaboration between Ben Gibbard and Jimmy (on "(This Is) The Dream of Evan and Chan") which led to the formation of The Postal Service.

Ben is also doing some touring this summer, recently played Bowery Ballroom, and was on Conan last night.

The One AM Radio released Heaven is Attached by a Slender Thread back in April via Dangerbird. Dntel remixed the track "An Old Photo of Your New Lover" which you can grab above along with "After Parties" from the Dntel EPs.
