"There was a certain amount of science to it. An entire week of work experience students left the office thinking that cutting-edge music journalism in 2014 mostly involves calculating which bands have been mentioned most in NME in the past two years, then hunting out references to the bands that influenced those acts online and finally adding up the number of times each influence came up. This gave us a rough list which our editorial team - heads swimming with all of the bands that Wolf Alice (or whoever) have raved on about over 4am ciders - then took to the pub, tore into shreds, fought and shouted about and finally reconstructed in the rundown of 100 you see in the mag today. The Beatles didn't make it. Sorry." [NME[
NME went ahead and listed who they think the 100 most influential musicians and bands are (their latest cover story). Radiohead topped the list. Read the rest with justifications at NME, or just look at their full list below...

You may have noticed these MSG show posters popping up around NYC....

Dr Dre

Let's face it. Kanye West would never let anyone bill him 5th on a poster, but regardless, even with the typos, this concert bill popping up around NYC that claims Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, Pharrell Williams, Frank Ocean, Kanye West, Eminem, A$AP Rocky and Andre 3000 are playing Madison Square Garden on a "Thuesday" is sure to get more than a few people excited about a show that is not actually happening.

Who would do such a thing??? Well, the likely culprit is artist Andre Saraiva who allegedly pulled a similar stunt with Daft Punk, Phoenix, Air & more in Paris. A fake Beach Boys, Phoenix, Beastie Boys (really?), The Faint & Tame Impala poster has also been seen in LA.

Thanks Nick Masi for the photo!

Disclaimer: 285 Kent may/may not have a fridge full of 40s like the "G Thing" video
40 Oz

Twenty years? Yes, it's been that long since we first heard Snoop "pimpin' hoes and clockin' a grip like [he] was Dolemite" from the classic "Nuthin But a G Thing." The stars have officially aligned too, with this past weekend capping off a string of celebrations called Dre Day. Dre Day is both a time to look back to the classic The Chronic LP and also to celebrate the birthday of its creator, Dr. Dre.... you know, the guy that makes those headphones.

Anyway, the weekend featured events from coast to coast (Hannibal Buress was tweeting from one in Miami last night) in celebration of the West Coast hip hop favorite, and continues tonight (2/18)with a party set to blast at 285 Kent with Cosmo Baker, Nick Hook, Egg Foo Young and Project Matt. Tickets are still available, but get there early for some free Bulldog gin (and juice, naturally).

Head below for some classic videos from The Chronic, a full stream of it's follow-up LP Chronic 2001, and don't hold your breath for a follow-up LP Detox (which has been coming soon for close to ten years now).

Dam-Funk at Union Pool in 2011 (more by Erez Avissar)
Dam Funk

Professor of the groove Dam-Funk is one of the many artists on board for Northside Festival this year. He'll team up with The Rub for a show on June 17th at Brooklyn Bowl. Tickets are on sale or you can try to get in with your Northside badge.

The show is one of two East Coast dates (the other is in Florida) for the California beatmaster thus far. He's also got some West Coast dates sandwiched in between trips to Europe, and you can catch himat a few festivals this summer including Seattle's Capitol Hill Block Party, Oya, Belgium Dour Festival, and more.

In other news, Dam-Funk recently posted the following to his Facebook page

If none of Dr. Dre's people reach out to the G.F.F.'s DaM-FunK to contribute to "Detox" then, it WILL NEVER BE be a 'true' representation of 'Los Angeles'. Period.

- G.F.F.

Detox is Dr. Dre's long-in-the-works follow-up to 2001. No word from the Dr. Dre camp regarding said comment, but you can check out some potentially Dre-worthy new Dam-Funk tracks below. Personally, I can't think of any artist that sounds more "California" and ready-made to pump out of a low-rider than Dam-Funk.

Those new tracks, two videos, and a list of all dates below...
