La Femme at Bowery Ballroom in March (more by Amanda Hatfield)
La Femme

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows, but here are some highlights...

La Femme, Ejecta, Charly Bliss, Tiny Leg @ Le Poisson Rouge
France's finest motorik synthy surf band return to NYC. La Femme are a lot of fun -- you might see crowd surfing atop a keyboard -- and the undercard, including Brooklyn synthpop act Ejecta, is well-chosen.

Flying Lotus, Thundercat @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
Flying Lotus has always had a little jazz in his IDM, but he fully embraces the genre on the just-released You're Dead!. His bass wizard collaborator Thundercat opens and will presumably be joining FlyLo during his set too. Things should get wacky.

Gwar, Decapitated, American Sharks @ Starland Ballroom
As part of their quest to find missing leader Oderus, the galaxy's craziest band are in the NY area as part of their "Eternal Tour 2014" featuring new members Vulvatron and Blóthar. Expect typical Gwar mayhem. It's a killer evening all-around with Decapitated and beer-loving American Sharks opening. GWAR will be in NYC proper next month.

Connan Mockasin, Quilt, Weyes Blood, Tim Koh (DJ Set), Jesper Eklow @ Baby's All Right
Part Two of Mexican Summer's two-day celebration, tonight's sold-out show is pretty killer, with ethereal songstress Weyes Blood and terrific Boston band Quilt. Headliner Connan Mockasin is the wildcard, brining an anarchic glee to his live shows. Things could get nutty. Stick around later for a separate midnight set from "OctaHate" singer Ryn Weaver.

mewithoutyou, The Appleseed Cast, Hop Along @ Irving Plaza
This is an excellent triple bill, with Philly's mewithoutYou celebrating the 10th anniversary of their art rock/post-hardcore opus Catch For Us The Foxes, veteran emo-turned-post-rockers The Appleseed Cast, and one of Philly's best newer bands Hop Along.

Rick Ross, 2 Chainz, DMX, Fabolous, Jhene Aiko, Redman, Method Man, Ashanti, Ja Rule, Warren G, Foxy Brown, Onyx, Jeremih @ Barclays Center (Def Jam 30th Anniversary)
Though Def Jam doesn't exactly have their heaviest hitters out to celebrate the label's 30th anniversary, there's still some cool stuff on this bill including a few veterans.

Rat Fist, Teenanger, The Abandos, Foster Care @ Death By Audio
Rat Fist is the new band of No Age guitarist Randy Randall and Pissed Jeans drummer Sean McGuinnes, who make exactly the kind of racket you'd expect from a resume like that. Their first NYC show ever was this past June at DbA and tonight they return to the venue. Toronto's Teenanger, meanwhile, make sneering, searing garagepunk -- a good fit. As are the other openers (Foster Care are one of NYC's most underrated bands).

Elliott Sharp @ Issue Project Room
Tonight is the premiere of Port Bou, Elliot Sharp's new opera about the final moments of philosopher Walter Benjamin's life in Port-Bou at the French-Spanish border as he flees Nazi-occupied France.

Il Sogno Del Marinaio (with Mike Watt), Gowanus @ Mercury Lounge
Mike Watt's a busy man, having been in Minutemen, fIREHOSE, The Stooges and more, and his current focus is his trio Il Sogno Del Marinaio with Italian musicians Stefano Pilia and Andrea Belfi.

Toddla T, Samo Sound Boy, Dre Skull, Jubilee @ Output
Samo Sound Boy's had a bit more success lately with his DJ Dodger Stadium duo with Jerome LOL, but tonight he's on his own to provide direct support to Ninja Tune's Toddla T for Output's weekly INPUT party.

The Twilight Sad, Christines @ Rough Trade
Scottish indie rockers The Twilight Sad reissued their 2007 debut Fourteen Autumns & Fifteen Winters this year and tonight they'll be playing it in full live.

The Blues Magoos, The Cynz @ Bowery Electric
The Blues Magoos initially had a short career in the late '60s that produced a handful of influential psych/garage rock songs including their popular single "(We Ain't Got) Nothin' Yet" and their version of "Tobacco Road," which later appeared on the first Nuggets compilation. Now they've got a new album out and this is the release show.

Dope Body, Big Ups, Slonk Donkerson @ The Studio at Webster Hall
Between Dope Body and Big Ups, there will be no lack of very loud, very distorted guitars at the Studio at Webster Hall tonight. Dope Body do it again at Palisades tomorrow with Rat Fist.

Xylouris & White, Bo Ningen @ Union Pool
Tonight's headliners are the duo of Dirty Three's Jim White and Cretan folk musician George Xylouris. Their debut album, Goats, mixes Xylouris' traditional lute style and White's avant leanings. Pretty interesting, as are openers Bo Ningen who are like a Chinese action fantasy as metal-prog band (but from Japan).

Cheap Girls, Beach Slang, Signals Midwest, Lee Corey Oswald @ Asbury Lanes
Cheap Girls and Beach Slang are a great double bill of two newer bands who likely would've been all over rock radio 20 years ago. The tour hit NYC earlier this week and now it's nearby in NJ.

Homeboy Sandman, ScienZe, Cavalier, I Am Many @ Glasslands
Queens rapper Homeboy Sandman put out his fifth album, Hallways, this past September via Stones Throw, and tonight's his first NYC show since its release.

Royal Blood, Kan Wakan @ Marlin Room at Webster Hall
UK rock duo Royal Blood's self-titled debut is one of 12 records up for this year's prestigious Mercury Prize with some prognosticators saying it's one of the frontrunners. Kinda sounds like run-of-the-mill rock to us but maybe you wanna see what all the fuss is about anyway.

For all of tonight's shows, and tomorrow's, check out our NYC concert calendar.

For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.

Lower at Chaos In Tejas 2013 (more by Sarah Frankie Linder)
Lower

The Flatmates
Flatmates

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows, but here are some highlights...

The Flatmates, My Favorite, The Haywains, Bart and Friends @ Knitting Factory
Night 2 of NYC Popfest features the NYC debut of veteran UK indiepop band The Flatmates, and the first show in a long, long time from cult group My Favorite.

Yann Tiersen @ Highline Ballroom
Best known for his score to Amelie, French musician/composer Yann Tiersen will just released his new album, ∞ (Infinity), via Mute, which falls somewhere between modern composer and outright pop.

Anti-Nowhere League, Cro-Mags, Mephiskapheles, Night Birds, Up For Nothing, DJ the Guvnor @ Irving Plaza
It's a night of classic punk at Irving Plaza with '80s-era UK vets Anti-Nowhere League and NYC crossover thrash vets Cro-Mags. Newer band Night Birds are always worth catching as well.

The Menzingers, PUP, Cayetana, Lemuria @ Webster Hall
There's a stacked bill of melodic punk/indie rock at Webster Hall tonight with headliners The Menzingers who are touring behind their new alt-rock-oriented Rented World. Opening are Canadian rippers PUP, and Philly's Cayetana and Buffalo's Lemuria who both make scrappy indie punk.

Rush Midnight, Nightbox @ Rough Trade
Russ Manning just released his debut album as Rush Midnight which is full of slinky '80s Caribbean/new wave/disco. It's like Sting guest starring on Miami Vice. That's not a bad thing, necessarily. Russ knows his way around a groovy bassline.

Lower, Dark Blue, La Cruor @ The Acheron
Denmark's Lower bring their moody punk to The Acheron tonight for their second of two NYC shows this week. And don't miss Philly trio Dark Blue (mems Clockcleaner, Ceremony, Paint It Black, Purling Hiss) who also make moody punk and just signed to the newly re-activated Jade Tree.

Bambi Kino (mbrs of Nada Surf/Cat Power/GBV), Charles Bissel & Kevin Whelan, Palomar, The Big Bright, White Collar Crime @ The Bell House
Tonight is a benefit for Windsor Terrace's PS154, featuring Charles Bissel and Kevin Whelan of The Wrens, plus high-concept, indie-rock-royalty-filled Beatles tribute act Bambi Kino, Palomar and more.

DJ Marfox, DJ Deeon, DJ Manny B2B RP Boo, Mumdance, J-Cush, UNiiQU3 B2B Tiga, Durban @ The Westway (RBMA)
It's an excellent night for forward-thinking dance music at The Westway for this Lit City Trax party happening as part of the Red Bull Music Academy. Many of the artists playing tonight will also be back in town for Warm Up this summer.

Sage Francis, Metermaids, B. Dolan @ LPR
Providence rapper Sage Francis, a past collaborator of both Bad Religion and Atmosphere, put out a new album, Copper Gone, this year and is currently on tour in support of that.

Hector's Pets, Games, A. Rex and J. Rex, Fletcher C Johnson @ Baby's All Right
NYC garage rockers Hector's Pets are celebrating the release of their new album Pet-O-Feelia. The night's undercard is pretty good, with power-poppers Games, plus A. Rex and J. Rex, and "special guest" Fletcher C Johnson.

Heartsrevolution, NinjaSonik, Demetra, Alyson Greenfield @ Brooklyn Night Bazaar
Brooklyn Night Bazaar offers weekends of local artisan shopping, gourmet eats, beer and wine, ping pong, black light minigolf and music all under one Greenpoint roof. Tonight is a lineup of glitchy dancepop, headlined by Heartsrevolution.

Midnight Magic, Hess Is More @ Cameo Gallery
If you like your dance music played by a skilled live band, you're in luck as both bands on this bill fall under that category. Midnight Magic are straight-up disco; Hess is More find more of a krauty groove and tonight play as an eight-piece band.

Forgetters, Bennio Qwerty, The Seth @ Death by Audio
Forgetters, the current band of Jawbreaker frontman Blake Schwarzenbach, will rip up DbA tonight; power trio Bennio Qwerty and The Seth are worth catching too.

For all of tonight's shows, and tomorrow's, check out our NYC concert calendar.

For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.
