Peaches / Converge / Antemasque / just a skeleton chillin'
Mostly inspired and occasionally inane, Antemasque carried that same agitated vigor and theatrics of prior projects into their set on the Orange stage Friday night, starting 15 minutes late with "In the Lurch" and walloping through. Almost immediately one thing was clear: There's no one true frontman.Austin's Fun Fun Fun Fest kicked off on Friday (11/6) and day 1 was loaded with great sets: Schoolboy Q, Converge, Drive Like Jehu, Babes In Toyland, The Dwarves, Cheap Trick, Hudson Mohawke, Rae Sremmurd, King Khan & BBQ, Mikal Cronin, Peaches, Parquet Courts, Cedric and Omar's Mars Volta/ATDI offshoot Antemasque with Travis Barker, and still plenty more. We already pictures of Shamir's set and one set of Drive Like Jehu, and we've got more DLJ shots, pics of everyone mentioned above, and more in this post.
Each member performed with violent energy, demanding attention. [Omar] Rodríguez-López flailed on his guitar wildly and somehow maintained precision in his often math-y riffs, while his bassist brother Marfred [Rodríguez-López] recklessly knocked around. Blink-182's Travis Barker held down the middle, pummeling the drum kit and continuously evoking drawn-out yells of "Traaaaaavis!" from the crowd.
[Cedric] Bixler-Zavala also hurled his body across the stage in ways that made it unclear whether he was possessed by the music or some sort of Satanic presence, inexplicably hiding under a white tarp at one point as he sang. [Austin Chronicle]
FFF Fest continued on Saturday (11/7) and it wraps up today (Sunday, 11/8). Stay tuned for more coverage.

Black Lips / Coathangers / NOBUNNY / Burger
Burgerama III happened last month at Santa Ana, CA's The Observatory featuring a whole lot of bands on Burger Records' extensive, denim-clad roster. Day 1 (3/22) featured Black Lips and The Coathangers, both of whom played NYC last night (4/17) at Webster Hall and Baby's All Right, respectively. Day one also featured sets from sleazo punks The Dwarves, sleazo bubblegarage dude NOBUNNY, Detroit protopunk band Death, LA teens Cherry Glazzer, more bands, much crowdsurfing and general insanity. A belated set of pics from day 1 are in this post. And check out day 2 pics here.

Napalm Death at Maryland Deathfest 2012 (more by Fred Pessaro // BBG)
Municipal Waste, Napalm Death and Exhumed will team up for a US tour together (!), calling on a rotating support cast of Vektor (who just played Saint Vitus), Dayglo Abortions, Attitude Adjustment, Speedwolf, Repulsion (who will play POTR East) and Dwarves.
Look for them to hit Fun Fun Fun Fest along the way, and NYC is in the crosshairs for this mammoth tour, hitting Gramercy Theater on October 27 with Vektor on board as support. Tickets are on sale, and tour flyer and all listed tour dates are at the bottom of this post.
Meanwhile, Blag Dahlia of Dwarves will be in NYC very soon.
All dates and the MWaste tour flyer are below.
Dwarves at Knitting Factory, 2011 (more by Harriet Roberts)
Blag Dahlia of the Dwarves (link NSFW) will be in NYC for two days in early September, neither of which will be with partners in crime HeWhoCannotBeNamed, Rex Everything, Whölley Smökkes and the less creatively monikered Greg Saenz. Blag is solo on this one, and you can catch him either at a DJ/spoken word event at Goodbye Blue Monday on 9/3 (1087 Broadway, Brooklyn) or at a FREE solo acoustic show at Bowery Electric on 9/4.
So far, more conventional Dwarves shows (if anyone could ever call them that) are few and far between: they play September 1 at Gothic Theater Englewood, CO, 9/2 at the 2000 Tons of TNT Festival in Hartford, CT (tickets) and Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin on 11/2-4. All known dates are listed at the bottom of this post.
In other obnoxious punk news, look for The Meatmen are on tour, including Europa on August 31 with Runny & Gentlemen and the previously mentioned 2000 Tons of TNT in Hartford. That festival will also house appearances from Anti-Nowhere League, Rival Mob, Negative Approach (who is scheduled to play Power Of The Riff East that same weekend) and more.
All tour dates are listed below, along with a Blag Dahlia live video.
After teasing folks with a few names here and there -- like Run DMC most recently -- Austin's annual Fun Fun Fun Fest (Nov 2 - 4) has revealed it's full line-up, including Public Image Ltd, De La Soul, Superchunk, Santigold, Refused, X peforming Los Angeles, and lots, lots more. 3-day passes go on sale at 10AM CST.
