Los Angeles' Line & Circle will be touring the East Coast this fall, including a stay in NYC during CMJ. No real specifics to speak of but they will play the White Iris showcase on October 18, wherever that ends up happening. More details will surface when we get closer to the fest (which is getting close!).
White Iris is the influential singles-only label that released early 7"s by Best Coast, Fidlar, Electric Guest and No, the latter two being Line & Circle's tourmates for the non-CMJ dates on the tour. The band's sound owes more than a little to jangly '80s American college rock bands like Miracle Legion, Grapes of Wrath (Canadian, I know), The Connells, The Reivers, and other bands who came along in R.E.M.'s wake. It's definitely a sound that hasn't been dug out by very many new bands lately. You can stream both sides of their White Iris single below.
A list of all Line & Circle tour dates and those song streams are below.
The full list of artists confirmed for the 2012 CMJ Music Marathon so far is below...

Jack White/The Roots
The one galvanizing main-stage performance at the Sasquatch festival this year was Jack White's weapons-grade electric guitar soloing on Saturday. Otherwise, it was by the book in the best possible sense. Thousands of people gathered peacefully and everything was on schedule. The Sasquatch Music Festival happened Memorial Day Weekend in Gorge, WA and Day 2 (Saturday, May 26) insanely packed with talent, featuring sets from Jack White, The Roots, tUnE-yArDs, Purity Ring and lots, lots more. It was so overstuffed, we're breaking Saturday's pictures into two parts. See more pics of Jack White and The Roots' Sasquatch set, plus other artists below, with more to come. Check out Day 1 photos HERE.
The festival, which ended Monday with a performance by Beck, featured dozens of live rock, rap, electronic music and comedy acts packing five stages for four days over the sunny Memorial Day weekend...
...Oakland's Tune-Yards mesmerized at the Bigfoot Stage Saturday. Leader Merrill Garbus faced the full yellow sun and belted out powerful melodies in her alto voice that seemed beamed in from African radio. She used looping pedals to blend the vocals with drums and modified ukulele, which she also played live. But her bassist and jazz horn players sent the music through the roof, chipping in on junkyard percussion -- dented pieces of metal hit with drum sticks. [Seattle Times]

Electric Guest @ BV-CMJ
Electric Guest, who made their NYC debut at CMJ with four shows including one of our day parties at Public Assembly (pictures in this post), are going on an international tour over the course of the next few months which includes SXSW, Sasquatch! and a NYC show happening on May 2 at Bowery Ballroom. Tickets for the NYC show are on sale now.
The band's Danger Mouse-produced album Mondo will be released April 24 on Downtown Records. You can listen to the first single, "This Head I Hold", along with the video for "American Daydream", and all tour dates and more pictures from our CMJ show, below...
"Following last year's 10th anniversary, which crushed previous attendance records and set a new mark for the speed with which tickets sold out, the Sasquatch! Music Festival unveils its 2012 lineup which once again features 4 days of music. The festival, hailed as "a model of well-paced programming...in a four-day schedule as efficient and natural feeling as an expertly built algorithm" by NPR Music while Wired notes, "leave the landscape out of it and Sasquatch! has a lineup to kill for," runs May 25-28 (Memorial Day Weekend) at The Gorge, the internationally acclaimed concert venue carved in the basalt cliffs high above the Columbia River Gorge in Quincy, WA."The Sasquatch! Music Festival takes place, as usual, at the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington over Memorial Day weekend (May 25-28). And this year's lineup is:
STAGE 1 (front room)Finally! Here is the lineup to our 100% free not-CMJ day party happening at Public Assembly on Saturday (10/22), one day after our free Friday day party in the same place!
12:00 Street Chant
01:45 Purity Ring
04:00 Vockah Redu (New Oreleans bounce)
05:00 Idle Warship
This Saturday show is going to be non-stop action starting right at noon with New Zealand's Street Chant on the main stage (and We Barbarians in the other room). I'm excited for everyone, but the over the top antics of both Peelander-Z (after the dance pop party that is Brooklyn's Friends) and bounce artist Vockah Redu (who will warm up the crowd for Idle Warship) should make for a very memorable afternoon in more ways than one.
In addition to free music, here are some more reasons to stop by Saturday. We will have FREE SNACKS courtesy of popchips and Raw Revolution and FREE DRINKS courtesy of Sailor Jerry and our official CMJ wine partner HobNob Wines. Check out HobNob's Facebook page for free music downloads and go to Sailor Jerry's website to read more about all of their CMJ events.
We'll also have FREE BrooklynVegan t-shirts for the first 25 people in the door (not many of these exist - we sold them for charity at CMJ last year).
As mentioned in our Thursday Day Party announcement, we've also partnered with Spotify who are offering 48 hour free Premium trials (playlist for this party coming soon) and Sony Bloggie (stay tuned for our post-CMJ video series) for all BV CMJ/not-CMJ events including this one.
Thanks to Zach Jaeger (Tonally Dude) for the flyer you see above.
See you Saturday!
LA-based duo Electric Guest have announced their signing to Downtown Records who will release their debut full length in 2012. You may have never heard of this band, but you probably now their producer. As KCRW said in July:
Danger Mouse (Gorillaz, Gnarls Barkley, Broken Bells, The Black Keys, U2) is at that point in his career where he can do no wrong. At this precious moment, he is the arbiter of what is hip, redefining pop and elevating what might be otherwise esoteric concepts into radio-ready joyrides.Watch the band on stage four times this week in NYC for CMJ. They make their NYC debut (tonight - 10/18) at Dominion (with Penguin Prison, ANR & more), and then continue on to Tammany Hall, Mercury Lounge and finally the BrooklynVegan day party at Public Assembly on Saturday (more details TBA). All dates and some songs below...
Brian [Burton aka Danger Mouse] came to the project thanks to his longstanding friendship with Jorma Taccone, Asa Taccone [of Electric Guest]'s brother, who is famous for his contributions to The Lonely Island (with Andy Samberg) and their renegade musical sketches on Saturday Night Live (ie. "Dick in a Box"!).
I first played Electric Guest on air at KCRW on May 28 and it was one of those radio debuts that reminded me of how lucky I am to have a platform to share music I love. And standing in the crowd this past Monday, watching the band on stage - and watching Brian watch the band onstage - inspired still another moment of joy and deep gratitude.
