DOWNLOAD: Dune Rats - "Red Light, Green Light" (MP3)
Speaking of Australia, Brisbane fuzz rock duo Dune Rats (aka Danny Beus and BC Michaels), who were one of Andy from Cake Shop's "21 Amazing Experience of 2012", surfaced with two EPs in 2011, Sexy Beach and Social Atoms, and they're planning to follow that with another EP, titled Smile, and eventually a debut full length at some point this year. No exact details on those releases exist, but the band recently released a single, "Red Light, Green Light," which you can download for free at the top of this post. It's of the Wavves-y stoner/beach rock variety and you can watch the video below, which consists entirely of both members smoking a variety of bongs (and I'm pretty sure they're actually doing it).
Dune Rats will be coming to the US for a tour surrounding SXSW this March which hits NYC on March 20 at Cake Shop (other bands TBA), March 21 at Shea Stadium with The Beets, Hard Nips, Juniper Rising, and Heeney, and March 24 at Sons of Essex. A list of all dates and the tour flyer below.
Their SXSW shows include the annual Aussie BBQ, and Dune Rats are only one of many Aussie bands coming over to Austin for SXSW, including Alpine, Flume, Kirin J Callinan, WIM, and others. The full list of Australian bands that will be at SXSW is below.

If there's any band who universally lived up to their hype at this year's CMJ, it had to be London's Savages. Everyone at BV loved them, we caught their sets at the Stereogum showcase and at our own day party. We also went over to Mercury Lounge after our Friday party (10/19) to catch them again, where they were headlining a sold out show with Choir of Young Believers, Daughter, San Cisco, and Emma Louise (who recently signed to Frenchkiss). J. Thoven was on that bill too but we missed their set. Pictures from the rest are in this post.
Meanwhile, Choir of Young Believers (who were also great at our Saturday day party) and Daughter are on a tour that hits Chicago tonight. Daughter also played the Glassnote CMJ showcase while they were in NYC.
Videos of Savages tearing it up during "Flying to Berlin" and "Husbands" at Mercury Lounge, and more pics from the show are below.

Io Echo describe themselves on their Facebook as "PASTEL DOOM" which is as good a descriptor of their sound as any I've heard. Their US debut EP was released this week and while it references '80s goth and '90s shoegaze, theduo sound very now (and very L.A., where they reside). You can stream a track and watch videos below, or stream the entire EP via Spotify.
Io Echo are here for CMJ, and play the BV day party on Friday at Public Assembly (2:10 PM in the back room) which is free and you should come to if you can (call in sick!).
In addition to our party they play Bowery Ballroom tonight (10/18, 9 PM) with MNDR, Gabriel Bruce, plus MS MR, Deap Vally, and Sky Ferreira (all of whom also play our Friday day party); then Shea Stadium on Friday night (10/19, time TBA) with Har Mar Superstar, RIG 1, and Breakfast in Fur; and Union Pool on Saturday afternoon (10/20, 2:30 PM) for the free RDIO day party that also features The Luyas, Citizens!, Jesse Harris, The Lost Brothers and Emma Louise (more info here).
All dates are listed below along with music videos and song stream.
Brisbane, Australia's Emma Louise will be playing a bunch of shows during CMJ (less than two weeks away) but if you want to catch her earlier than that, she's making her NYC debut at Rockwood Music Hall tonight (10/5) with an early 7:30 set (it's also free).
With her electronic-tinged folk-pop single "Boy" (pretty catchy we admit), Emma Louise has been making waves and you can watch the video for that below. Her 2011 Full Hearts and Empty Rooms EP was reissued by Frenchkiss Records this year and the label will release her new album in early 2013 which "Boy" will be on.
As mentioned above, she'll be here for CMJ and is playing the Frenchkiss Records Showcase at Pianos on October 17 with Devin, Black Light Dinner Party, Chains of Love, Sleepies (tickets); the Paradigm Showcase at Mercury Lounge on October 19 with Savages and more (sold out, but you can try your CMJ badge if you have one); and the Aussie Day BBQ at The Delancey on October 20, with a couple other parties with dates TBA.
Dates and videos below...

The rest of the lineup includes The Alchemist, Ratking, Ka, Spaceghostpurrp, Savages, Savoir Adore, and a surprise special guest. RSVP is required for the free show and you must be 21+. Meanwhile, you can catch Action Bronson in NYC even sooner when he plays a free show at Public Assembly on October 10, and he'll also be back for a show at Highline Ballroom on October 30 with Cypress Hill.
We also just mentioned that Hot Charity signees Ratking have CMJ shows scheduled including free shows at Glasslands and Mercury Lounge on October 19 and a not-free show at Glasslands on October 20.
Savages have a number of CMJ shows scheduled too. They're playing Mercury Lounge on October 19 with Choir of Young Believers, Daughter, San Cisco, Emma Louise, and J. Thoven. Advance tickets for that show are sold out but you can still try to get in with your CMJ badge. They also play the Stereogum showcase with Dum Dum Girls, Guards, Port. St Willow, IO ECHO, and Icona Pop (DJ) (tickets), and it was just announced that they'll play the free Bowery Presents day party on October 20 at Pianos with The Orwells, Foxygen, Born Ruffians, Little Green Cars, Ava Luna, J. Thoven, San Cisco, Sky Ferreira, Opossom, Murals, Zulu Pearls, and Blessed Feathers.
