It's always tempting to talk about bands that are visiting our fair city from other countries - it must be a big deal if they made the trip all the way here - a rarity - possibly a chance to see something that's big somewhere else (and possibly good even!) in a small and intimate setting. Such is the case with two shows happening in NYC tonight (aug 15, 2007). The first, and least interesting one, would be Eskimo Joe. They're huge in Australia! Then there's the one I'm more tempted to check out, though not much more, and that would be The Wombats from the UK. They're playing at the Annex.

And not only are both of these bands playing in NYC, they both have songs about NYC - and though I wouldn't necessarily recommend either (especially the Eskimo Joe one), you can get the song by the Wombats above, and listen to the one by Eskimo Joe on their MySpace. Songs streaming at The Wombats' MySpace include a kind-of-annoying song about Joy Division (most of it anyway), and a catchy remix done by CSS.
