In addition to hosting almost 100 bands on three stages for four days straight, BrooklynVegan's Hotel Vegan, located at Austin venues Hotel Vegas & Volstead Lounge, was a place where you could sip some complimentary HobNob Wines from noon-7pm each day. It was a very good day. Bill wrote about some of the bands who played on Friday including Nardwuar's band The Evaporators who definitely put on one of the day & week's most memorable performance for those who caught it. As Bill wrote, "At one point, one group of people were holding him up while another group were holding his organ (hello!) while he played it... and then he soon climbed on top of it. There were costume changes, group singalongs, question and answer sessions and a lot of really fun garage punk. One of my Top 5 sets of SXSW 2012."

The Black Angels closed the day off right with a set of their 60s-influenced, psych rock n roll to an oferflowing house on the outdoor stage that saw a full crowd throughout the day thanks to names like Polica, Youth Lagoon and Tennis.

As you know, BrooklynVegan is taking over ALL THREE STAGES at connecting Austin venues Hotel Vegas & Volstead for FOUR DAYS STRAIGHT this week, and it's all 100% FREE (no RSVP or badges either). There's a big outdoor stage, and smaller stages inside Hotel Vegas & Volstead. Collectively we're calling the four day long party "Hotel Vegan" (located at 1500 E. 6th St, Austin, TX).

Friday's party is presented with HobNob Wines, our official wine partner of all four days of Hotel Vegan, and The Original Moonshine, our official spirit partner on Friday and Saturday.

School of Seven Bells will release their new album, GHOSTORY, on February 28 via Vagrant/Ghostly, and play two release shows at Mercury Lounge (2/28 and 3/1). Both of those shows are now sold out. They'll head out on a full tour in support of the album with Exitmusic (who also opens the 2/28 show) this spring, which culminates in a NYC show at Le Poisson Rouge on May 5. Tickets are on sale now.

You've already heard GHOSTORY's first track, "The Night," which you can grab HERE. They've since revealed that the first official single from the album is "Lafaye," which you can stream, with all tour dates, below.

School of Seven Bells will release their third album, and first since Alejandra Deheza's sister Claudia left the band, GHOSTORY on February 28 via Vagrant/Ghostly. Grab the first single from the album, "The Night," above and stream it below, along with the album's artwork and tracklist.

They'll play a record release show for GHOSTORY at NYC's Mercury Lounge on the album's release date (2/28) with Exitmusic. Tickets for the show are on sale now. It is both band's only announced show at the moment.

New York noise czars A Place to Bury Strangers are making moves. Never ones to stand still for very long (literally and figuratively), the band is announcing a new label and new music. Dead Oceans is proud to welcome APTBS to their roster. Label co-founder Phil Waldorf says, "I've been enamored with A Place to Bury Strangers since I first heard their debut album. Their live shows have rattled me time and time again. It is not often you get to work with a band that you've been closely following for years, and we are honored to be a part of their new chapter. Wait until you hear what comes next." The band will join artists such as Akron/Family, Gauntlet Hair, Phosphorescent, the Tallest Man on Earth and more.

Having put on numerous wild shows across the US and Europe -- their recent Rockoff Cruise included band members tossing plugged in amps overboard -- APTBS' ferocious live performances have won over a wide range of audiences. Their solid wall of sound is built meticulously, brick by brick, to form a cohesive all-encompassing experience: physical, intellectual, emotional. In the last year the band has grown to include bass player Dion Lunadon from The D4. Dion has joined Oliver Ackerman (guitar/vocals) and Jay Space (drums) in shaping the direction for APTBS, co-writing songs and sharing backup vocal duties. Of their Dead Oceans signing Ackerman says, "We are very excited to be signing with [the label]. I have been a fan of their taste in music since the label started and it's going to be cool to be a part of what they have built independently over the years."

The trio has been hard at work on a new set of 5 songs, which will be released on Dead Oceans as an EP in early 2012. More details on the new EP and tour dates will follow soon.

Loney Dear @ Mercury Lounge

Though Loney Dear initially announced a US tour that doesn't start until 11/3 at Rockwood Music Hall in NYC, he has since decided to pay NYC a visit this week to help promote his new album 'Hall Music' which is out now. Last night he played a free show at Sound Fix Records. On Saturday, 10/1, he opened a show at Brooklyn Bowl. On Tuesday, 10/4, he played a show at Mercury Lounge with Exitmusic. Archy Marshall, who previously operated under the Zoo Kid moniker, now records as King Krule. He'll release a self titled EP under the name on November 8 via True Panther. That's the album art above. You can check out the EP's last track, "The Noose of Jah City," along with the tracklist below.

King Krule has a few international dates coming up including some CMJ shows, which will also act as his US debut. He's scheduled to play the True Panther showcase at Glasslands on October 19 with Tanlines, Trash Talk, Lemonade, Teengirl Fantasy, and Little Red. He'll also play a Fader Fort CMJ Party on October 21 and a secret True Panther warehouse party on October 22. Stay tuned for more details on those.

Trash Talk also have other CMJ shows including a late one at Cake Shop on Thursday, October 20:

Exitmusic & Loney Dear will play a show together at Mercury Lounge on October 4th. Tickets go on sale at noon. Exitmusic also have a Halloween show coming up at MHOW with the Black Angels.

This 10/4 show is a full month before Sweden's Loney Dear does a short acoustic tour that includes a show at Rockwood Music Hall. It also happens to be the day Loney Dear's new album "HALL MUSIC" is released in North America.

Speaking of Swedish singer-songwriters, tickets go on sale at noon for Jens Lekman's third Music Hall of Williamsburg show.

Continuing with the Sweden theme... The Sounds have announced a tour that includes a November 2nd show at Music Hall of Williamsburg and a November 4th show at Webster Hall. Both go on sale at noon. All dates are listed below.

Blood Orange @ PS1 on 8/20 (more by Erez Avissar)

One of the many casualties of Irene was the free Spotify-sponsored CANT/Blood Orange show that was supposed to happen at Mercury Lounge on Sunday. Luckily that show had no trouble rescheduling and will now take place this Tuesday, August 30th. Doors for the free late-night show are at 11:30pm. Expect CANT to hit the stage around 1am. As previously mentioned, this will be CANT (aka Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear)'s NYC live debut.

CANT's debut record, Dreams Come True, is out on September 13th on Chris's own Terrible Records. You can listen to two songs, "Answer" and "Believe", now on Spotify.

The last free Spotify show featured The Suzan, Exitmusic and a headlining set by Oberhofer who, in addition to having a bunch of songs streaming on Spotify, also made a Spotify playlist that you can listen to if you have the application.

Oberhofer's next NYC appearance has also been announced. Catch them opening for Les Savy Fav, along with Chron Turbine, at Music Hall of Williamsburg on Tuesday, September 6th. Tickets are still on sale.

You can also catch CANT at Music Hall of Williamsburg, but only DJing, on September 13th. CANT and Blood Orange head out on a tour in October that hits Bowery Ballroom on October 25th.

As mentioned, Spotify Late Nights at Mercury Lounge continue tonight (8/18) with Delicate Steve, The Stepkids, and Parlovr. The next free Spotify show has also now been announced and takes place Thursday, August 25 with Oberhofer, Exitmusic, and The Suzan. Admission for both shows is free and doors are at 10 PM. You must be 21+ and admittance to the venue is first come, first served. Those in attendance will receive an access code for Spotify US. The 8/25 free show happens after Mute Math play a sold out early show at the same venue.

Secretly Canadian-signed duo Exitmusic, whose Aleska Palladino is an actress in Boardwalk Empire, also plays Glasslands on Friday (8/19) with with Yellow Ostrich, Parlovr, and Caged Animals. They open for Black Angels at Music Hall of Williamsburg on Halloween.

The Suzan have other shows coming up too including Saturday (8/20) at Caffe Orwell in Brooklyn and August 23 at Urban Assembly School of Music & Art in Brooklyn. They also open for Peter Bjorn & John in September at MHOW (9/15) and Bowery Ballroom (9/16). The Bowery show is sold out but Tickets are still on sale for the MHOW show.

Dead Meadow is confirmed for the bulk of the previously discussed tour with The Black Angels and Spindrift, but the band will also play an NYC-area show of their own while the Black Angels are holding it down in Brooklyn. In addition to their support appearance on 10/30 at Music Hall of Williamsburg (one of three Black Angels shows at the Brooklyn venue), Dead Meadow will play Maxwell's on 10/29. In other words:

The Black Angels @ 4Knots (more by Amanda Hatfield)

The Black Angels have been no stranger to NYC lately. Their most recent trip included a headlining slot at the 4Knots Festival at the South Street Seaport, a NJ show at Maxwell's and a late-night free Spotify show at Mercury Lounge (same series Surfer Blood plays tonight). The trend continues in October when the Austin band returns for three more shows as part of a just-announced North American fall tour with Dead Meadow and Spindrift.

The NYC shows happen on October 29, 30, and 31 at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, and they'll mix up the openers for the Halloween run. Psychic Ills and Brooklyn's Exitmusic will both play the 10/31 show, and a special guest (TBD) will be at the 10/29 show, along with a set from Spindrift who also plays on 10/30 with Dead Meadow. Tickets for all three shows go on sale Friday (8/5) at noon with an AmEx pre-sale starting Wednesday (8/3) at noon.

DOWNLOAD: WATERS - "For the One" (MP3)

Van Pierszalowski, former lead singer of the recently broken-up Port O'Brien, now records under the moniker WATERS. Rather than the indie folk/pop Port O'Brien had become known for, in WATERS Van opts for a fuzzy '90s-lo-fi approach which can be heard above in the song "For the One." WATERS releases his debut LP Out In The Light on September 20 via TBD Records.

He's currently finishing up a tour in Europe with Wye Oak which he'll follow with three NYC dates. WATERS plays the Flavorpill/IROCKIROLL/The Bell House Northside showcase at Cameo Gallery on June 18 with Sean Bones, Neighbors, Zuzuka Poderosa, Young Adults, and Wojick. They also open for Deervana (aka Deer Tick as Nirvana) at their sold out Northside show at Brooklyn Bowl on June 19. WATERS then plays a headlining show at Mercury Lounge on June 21 with Exitmusic, Milagres, and Anni Rossi. Tickets are on sale.

The Cameo show is one of many that Sean Bones has happening at Cameo this month. He already played there last Thursday and he also plays there on June 23rd (with afro-funk band/collective Superhuman Happiness) and June 30th with the great New Moods. Full residency show lineups are below. Sean is playing new songs at the shows. Those songs will appear on the new record he's finishing recording with Shane Stoneback (Sleigh Bells, Cults, Vampire Weekend). Sean's last record came out on Frenchkiss.

New Moods have also been added as the opener on the July 1st Memory Tapes show at Mercury Lounge. Tickets are still on sale.

Religious To Damn (mem Blacklist/Vaura/A Stom of Light) played their record release party at Glasslands on 1/13 in celebration of Glass Prayer, the band's new LP out via M'Lady's Records on February 8th. The LP features an appearance from Tamaryn who (despite a supposed last minute cancellation) joined the band on stage. Kevin Hufnagel (Dystrhythmia/Gorguts/Vaura) opened with a solo set on acoustic guitar after Charlie Schmid and his percussion ensemble 'I Sing The Body Electric' performed Steve Reich's 'Drumming'. There was burlesque from Anna Copa Cabanna, and records were played by Jonathan Toubin, Jeralyn Mason, and WIERD honcho Pieter Schoolwerth.

The Glasslands show was free, but unfortunately you will have to shell out a couple bucks to catch Religious to Damn at one of their next appearances: 2/6 at Glasslands with The Vacant Lots, Exit Music and ZaZa, on 2/23 at Union Pool with Man's Gin or on 3/25 at Cake Shop with Tog. Man's Gin also plays Mercury Lounge on 2/12 with Scott Kelly and Wino. Tickets are still available for that one.

Tamaryn will be back in NYC when she opens for the Raveonettes at Music Hall of Williamsburg on 4/20 (tickets are still on sale), and she'll be back even sooner to be part of this just announced February 19th event at MoMA PS1.

Lauren Devine and Patrik Sandberg present an audiovisual experience featuring performances by Tamaryn and Mirror Mirror, with an immersive visual landscape by installation crew Thunder Horse Video. The one-time-only collaborative event will produce a synthesized encounter with Tamaryn's colossal and dense sound and the natural landscape that inspired it, exaggerated to unnatural proportion within MoMA PS1's physical space. Mirror Mirror's lead-in performance, with costumes by Lauren Devine, will further feature a synchronized video by artists Robert Bittenbender and Casey Jane Ellison.
