The Charlatans @Webster Hall 11/10/15
Alt-rock survivors The Charlatans played Webster Hall on Tuesday night (11/10), one of the first shows on a short tour that began at Austin's Fun Fun Fun Fest. The band has had its ups and downs but is currently riding high on their terrific new album Modern Nature, and its opening cut, "Talking in Tones," opened their Webster show as well. They played seven songs off the new one, including rousing single "Come Home Baby," and peppered the rest of their set with classics like "Weirdo," "Then," "Just When You're Thinkin' Things Over," and "The Only One I Know."
The night also featured Portland's Eyelids, who are touring with The Charlatans, and Brooklyn's Dinowalrus (who surely own a few Charlatans albums). Pictures from their Webster Hall sets, and more from The Charlatans (and their setlist), below...

Portland's Eyelids is the project of The Decemberists' John Moen, and Chris Slusarenko who was a Guided by Voices member in the 2000s (both also played together in the Robert Pollard-fronted Boston Spaceships). Their upcoming self-titled EP was produced by R.E.M.'s Peter Buck (who's also contributed to The Decemberists), and his band's jangly alt-rock isn't too far removed from the EP's new single, "Bound To Let You Down." That premieres in this post and can be streamed below.
The EP comes out June 23 via Jealous Butcher and the band's own Schizophonic Records, and features one other original song, as well as covers of John Cale's "Only Time Will Tell" and The Dream Syndicate's "Halloween." A limited edition colored vinyl version is also being released, which includes a download card with three exclusive live videos, one of which has Stephen Malkmus performing "Hey Joe" with the band.
Last year, Eyelids released a split with Woolen Men. Listen to the new song below...
We're pleased to announce the next BrooklynVegan-curated installment of the Red Bull Sound Select series of shows happens April 22 at Baby's All Right in Brooklyn. Headlining the show will be Woods whose new album, With Light And With Love, is out April 14 via the band's own Woodsist label (our show will double as their record release show). You can stream the title track below.
Entrance to the show will be $3 with an RSVP or $10 at the door otherwise (no advanced tickets). First 100 people through the door will get a ticket good for one of the black light-friendly posters you see pictured at the top of the post (you collect your poster on your way out).
Also playing the show are Portland, OR's The Woolen Men who released their self-titled debut album last year via Woodsist, and who will have released a new limited 7" vplit with Eyelids via Off Records one day before the show. To quote the label:
-Following the release of The Woolen Men's self-titled LP on Woodist Records and Eyelids "Seagulls Into Submission" 7" on Off Records these bands bring their loose and frenetic approach to the proceedings. The Woolen Men scrape Mark E. Smith over the head with their version of The Fall's "Psycho Mafia" while Eyelids lovingly churn the insides out of The Clean's classic "Anything Could Happen." Comes with very special packaging: a clear blue double sided flexi in a hand stamped and numbered box with particles of information, show fliers and a download card with 2 additional unreleased songs from the bands made exclusively for this release. Only 250 copies will be available. When these are gone, they are gone! The Woolen Men will be coming out to Brooklyn from Portland especially for this show.
The show also features Weyes Blood whose new album will be out later this year via Mexican Summer, and former Vivian Girl and current member of The Babies, Cassie Ramone who will be announcing some news of her own soon too. .
This will be the fourth BV-curated RBSS show; our previous installments were the Pig Destroyer/Dysrythmia/Trenchgrinder/Mother Brain, Bouncing Souls/Brian Fallon/Aye Nako/Nude Beach and Foxygen/Amen Dunes/LODRO/Prince Rupert's Drops.
