Forgetters at Red 7 in Austin (more here)

Few hardcore and punk shows to put on your radar....
Forgetters will team with Oi band Hard Skin and Boston hardcore The Rival Mob for a killer three-way at Europa on Oct 22nd. Tickets are on sale. The show is one of three on Blake Schrazenbach's horizon. Forgetters will also play Cake Shop with Pregnant, These Days, and Bells on 9/10 and support Obits at Knitting Factory on 11/12. Their first 7" is out on September 21st.
Word is that Veins (with Mark McCoy of Das Oath, Charles Bronson, etc) was originally on the Hard Skin bill, but had to drop off, and speaking of Mark McCoy, his other project Failures has another show coming up. Australia's Straightjacket Nation will headline 538 Johnson with Failures, Vile Gash, Scapegoat, and Confines on 10/2. Veins, which also features members of Drunkdriver, Das Oath, and Castevet, recently pressed their great cassette on 7" vinyl. Pick up a copy via Youth Attack, it rules.
Speaking of Youth Attack, Brutal Chicago hardcore band Raw Nerve released their incredible self-titled LP on the label earlier this year. Though copies of that are long gone, you can still catch the band when they headline Acheron on 10/16 along with Manipulation, Perdition, and Concrete Cross (members Disnihil/Celebrity Murders).
They released their Songs for Burning Lovers LP, wowed me at Europa, and got robbed while on tour with Coliseum, but now Burning Love is back on the road and will hit Acheron on 9/25.
And last but certainly not least, look for a double dose of Danish Hardcore punk from Hjertestop when they play NYC twice in early November. On 11/8, look for the band to play The Charleston with Night Birds, Nomos, and Crazy Spirit while 11/9 gets Acheron with Swedes Fy Fan! and Crazy Spirit.

Landmine Marathon at Kimo's

Salome and Landmine Marathon are in NYC, and are ready to tear the roof off of Union Pool TONIGHT (7/13) as part of a two night campaign of obliteration. Wetnurse, who have been on the low this year to work on new material, will get the assist on tonight's shindig, while Batillus will support the pair two days later (7/15) at Cake Shop (unfortunately, Cleanteeth had to cancel their appearance). Want tickets? I have THREE pairs available for giveaway for EACH show. Details on how to win are at the bottom of this post.
The Landmine/Salome dates are two of three BV shows scheduled for this week. The Funeral Pyre will team up with Early Graves, Mutilation Rites and the recently added Valdur(!) play Union Pool on July 17th (Sat). Valdur, who shared a split with the great Lightning Swords of Death (check out our interview), are in the NYC area to play a second show as well. The Cali black metal crew will also take on Precious Metal at Lit on Monday (7/17) alongside Mutilation Rites (again) and Syphilitic Lust.
Landmine Marathon recently played Kimo's in San Francisco on their way out east, a trek which would eventually lead them to Dudefest (pics from Dudefest) where they crossed paths with Failures and Mammoth Grinder. Failures played Acheron on Sunday (7/11) with Vaccine, Raw Nerves and Rats In The Walls, and though I missed all the support. Pics from that show are below.
Mammoth Grinder played the Thrasher party during SXSW, and a set of unpublished pics from their appearance are below as well. The band plays The Charleson on July 15th as part of a tour that was originally supposed feature Lewd Acts, who have now officially called it quits...
Lou Dax succumbed on June 20th, 2010 to the coma brought on by a head wound sustained in New York City on May 6th. Lou is survived by his 4 sons. In lieu of flowers, pick up a Lou Dax memorial shirt or record at www.lewdacts.bigcartel.com or www.deathwishinc.com to help his legacy live on. Thank you to everyone who ever listened, saw, helped, or cared about Lou. - [Facebook]Long live Lewd Acts.

Arab on Radar

Indianapolis was ablaze this weekend (July 9th & 10th), as Arab on Radar and Municipal Waste headlined Dudefest in Indianapolis, Indiana as part of a two day event in that city. The event also featured many other luminaries from the hardcore/underground metal scenes which also featured Voetsek (coming to NYC), Capsule, Get Rad (profiled here), Coffinworm (coming to NYC), Failures & Vaccine (who played NYC last night, pics coming soon), Landmine Marathon (who play NYC TWICE this week, with Salome), Trap Them (their new EP is out now), Phoenix Bodies, Pollution (who have a new 12"), and many others. Our photographer sent in his notes...
Dudefest, Day 1: The evening started off fairly sparse with a few crowding to the front to watch the bands and the occasional minipit. The hall was packed densely with merch booths and the bathroom supplying the Emerson Theater classic carnival game, piss on the cockroach in the urinal until he drowns. The crowd seemed to pick up by the time Landmine Marathon took stage, but it was the full force rage of Municipal Waste that really brought things into a fury.Twitter reports confirm the reign of terror brought forth by Arab on Radar at Dudefest, their second show in a week as the band also played AS220 in their native Rhode Island on July 3rd. The band is currently working on a new record with no release date set yet.Day 2: Irony-a-plenty at the ES Jungle. For those that don't know its a church and you can only chuckle when bands like Black Arrows of Filth and Impurity are on the bill and you're staring down a line of people wearing t-shirts depicting bloodied carcasses atop a pentagram. This day was a bit more rough and by the end of the night it turned into a photography war zone, just replace bombs with people, feet, and elbows.
Videos from both Arab on Radar shows and more pictures from Dudefest (Capsule, Failures, Municipal Waste, Landmine Marathon, Phoenix Bodies, and more... WARNING: don't look on an empty stomach), below...

Failures

The unfuckwitable Failures will team up with Vaccine to play Brooklyn at Acheron on July 11th, alongside Raw Nerves (from Portland - thats PLURAL not singular), Surroundings, and the final show from Rats In The Walls. The show takes place the day after the pair rips Dudefest a new onewith Arab On Radar, Voetsek, Trap Them, and many others.
Failures' S/T LP dropped last year on vocalist Mark McCoy's own Youth Attack imprint and currently have LP #2 in the works. The band features members of Das Oath, Orchid, Ampere, Cut the Shit, Charles Bronson, and many other outfits including McCoy's recent undertaking as guitarist, Veins.
Veins recently dropped their first release, the sold-out cassette for Youth Attack Records. Much like Failures, the band is a supergroup of sorts featuring McCoy, Ian Jacysyzyn (Castevet) , Michael Berdan (ex-Drunkdriver), Jeroen Vrijhoef (Das Oath), and W. Boone on bass. The band currently has no dates scheduled, but Castevet does; they will play NYC on August 1st at The Studio at Webster alongside Altar of Plagues, Velnias, and Man's Gin. Tickets are on sale. Castevet's Mounds of Ash is out NOW via Profound Lore.

With Absu's new self-titled LP due only a few weeks away (Feb 24th), the band have announced their participation in CIII along with French black metallers Glorior Belli, Austin's Averse Sefira, and Sothis, including a date at BB Kings on June 21st! Funeral Mist, the black metal crew featuring Mortuus of Marduk, have announced their NEW album, Maranatha due on Norma Evangelium Diaboli (link NSFW) on Feb 23rd! Funeral Mist's last album, Salvation, was released in 2006. In related/as exciting news, Marduk have announced more dates for their previously reported US trek with Mayhem, Cattle Decapitation, Cephalic Carnage, and Withered including Irving Plaza on May 21! No ticket details as of yet, but we'll let you know when they surface. Full tour schedule below.
Javelina have announced the more details about their previously announced Sanford Parker-produced LP coming soon on Translation Loss. Their sophomore effort will include nine original tunes, as well as a Buzzov*en cover ("Whisky Fit") that will be featured on a upcoming tribute record (which will also feature contributions from Sourvein, Deadbird, Fistula, Kylesa, Zoroaster and many more). Grace of Landmine Marathon

Landmine Marathon have scheduled an East Coast tour including TWO nights in NYC! On April 13th, Grace and the boys will descend upon Lit Lounge (Precious Metal) backed by Wizardry and Seizure Crypt. Three days later (4/16), the band have set aside the day to play an additional show in Brooklyn... details are forthcoming. Landmine Marathon are also on board to play both the New England Hardcore & Metal Fest, as well as the Los Angeles Murderfest. Full tour schedule below. Speaking of Wizardry, the band will record their entire live show at Union Pool on Feb 25th for later release.
Pelican have signed with Southern Lord! The band is currently recording material at Red Room studios in Seattle for what will be their debut EP for the label. Look for the new material to be "heavier, darker and very riff-oriented," according to guitarist Trevor De Brauw. Pelican also announced a slew of tour dates with Tombs (none in NYC), including a stint with Wolves In The Throne Room that will bring the trio to SXSW as part of the Southern Lord showcase. WITTR have a new EP AND LP on the way, and recently dropped a live LP, Live at Roadburn.
Deathspell Omega's Veritas Diaboli Manet in Aeternum - Chaining the Katechon EP, culled from their split with S.V.E.S.T. is out NOW at Southern Lord, and if you were a fan of their last LP, I highly reccommend it. Also of note at Southern Lord: Wolves in The Throne Room's previously mentioned Malevolent Grain EP, the new and mega-rare Boris/Michio Kurihara Cloud Chamber LP (1500 total copies) as well as the Boris Vs. Choukoku - More Echoes, Touching Air Landscape reissue. WITTR's new album Black Cascade is due on Mar 31st.
Speaking of WITTR, Scion Rock Fest is a little more than two weeks away, and we have 10 PAIRS of tickets and 10 Josh Graham designed posters for giveaway. In the meantime, dig on the recently posted set times below (thx anon)!
As we originally reported in September, sunn o))) has a new album on the way that we THOUGHT was called Dimensions. Turns out, according to an interview with The Quietus, the new album is due in May, will be entitled Monoliths & Dimensions, and will feature Jessika Kenney, Eyvind Kang, as well as frequent contributors Oren Ambarchi, Attila Csihar (Mayhem) and Dylan Carlson (Earth). Check out the tracklisting below. Speaking of Stephen O'Malley, the previously discussed Aethenor record, Faking Gold & Murder is out NOW.
