"An aggregate 225,000 people bought tickets to see a [Coachella] roster headlined by Jay-Z, Muse and Gorillaz during the April 16-18 event at the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio. The 2010 edition of Coachella actually began excactly one week ago today, and we already posted full picture sets from: DAY ONE, DAY TWO and DAY THREE. Now here is one last group that contains unposted outtakes from all three...
The previous attendance record was set in 2007, when the headliners included a reunited Rage Against the Machine. Final figures are still being tallied, but AEG Live CEO Randy Phillips said the gross will exceed $20 million.
Phillips said the future looked bleak for AEG Live's nascent All Points West festival, which took place in 2008 and 2009 across the Hudson River from lower Manhattan at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, N.J.
"We're probably going to kill it," said Phillips. "As beautiful as (the site) is, it's very hard to get New Yorkers to cross that river. All Points West is an experiment that just didn't work." [Reuters]
Faith No More @ Coachella 2010 (more by Rachel Carr)
Tickets are now on Fan Club Presale for the recently added Faith No More show at Williamsburg Waterfront (password = reunited). The reunited band played "Reunited" during their set at Coachella over the weekend.
Before Coachella, the band played three shows at The Warfield in San Francisco. Original member Chuck Mosley joined them at one of the shows. Video of that below...

"Wow. The Sahara is past capacity at Coachella for Die Antwoord. No midget. Waiting for the trainwreck but people dig it." - The Scenestar
"Seeing a shirtless Danny DeVito run across the stage while Faith No More played pretty much made my #coachella weekend." - stovn
Die Antwoord, Faith No More
Flopping phalluses are in this year according to Major Lazer and Die Antwoord. Each presented the intersection of beats, party-hyping, gross humor, and dancing in your underwear. Day 2 of the Coachella Music & Arts Festival had an overall far-out theme. Some with sexually explicit lunacy, others with psychedelic music. South Africa's Die Antwoord introduced zef-rap to the festival, South Africa's version of white trash hip hop-a bold, fearless expression of crazy stick a finger up your bum entertainment.
Before arriving at these culminating moments, the day progressed through a series of psychedelic and/or raunchy expressions. John Waters kicked things off with thoughts on crawling through pig poo, taking poppers, the pleasures of sploshing, and strange things he wants to do before he dies. Gossip's Beth Ditto hoped he was watching her blazing disco soul performance but was afraid to look backstage and see him smiling and waving at her. Gossip put on a set that inspired revelations on reality in the most self-empowering ways.
John Waters & Beth Ditto @ Coachella (this pics via Jermey Scott)
The day's best covers include Faith No More doing "Reunited" (they also covered Michael Jackson's "Ben"), Portugal, The Man's jamming Bowie's "Moonlight Daydream," and Girls' flawless "All I Have To Do Is Dream" by the Everly Brothers. The last was a most appropriate choice for the band with an Ariel Pink sensibility towards '50s ballads. MGMT brought the futuristic 1960s with songs from its new album. Many pointed out that the band didn't play "Kids", but that seems to miss the point that MGMT put on a pretty sophisticated, experimental live performance of the band's signature Indian headdress on Phil Spector Fraggle Rock sound.
The Raveonettes played as a duo and sans drum machine, adorably sharing a mic sometimes. The rest of the band remains trapped under lava in Iceland, figuratively speaking. Camera Obscura also shouted out bands stuck in the UK, dedicating "Let's Get Out Of This Country" to those who could not make it.
It seems almost every DJ this weekend has sampled Major Lazer's "Pon De Floor" except Flying Lotus, who took the stage all on his own (no Thom Yorke cameo included). After warming up the crowd with some first grade experimental hip hop, FlyLo brought out the big guns, sounds combined in layers and pitches that act like quaaludes on the light speed continuum. The Dirty Projectors girls evoked cool electronic birds and the Dezurik Sisters with their harmonizing powers. Beach House cooed the audience romantically as 50% of the band, Alex Scally, rubbed his slide up and down the frets.
Did that sound sexy? It's time to talk about sexy. The xx provided the mellow arousal Blonde Redhead and Portishead have given Coachella the last two years. People like The xx because they want sex that fits this soundtrack. They also want sex as excitingly goofy gross as Die Antwoord and to fall in love with a gal like Sia, all at the same time. Sia's beautiful voice closed the night in the Gobi tent, and though her accent rendered her side comments completely incomprehensible, everyone laughed and agreed with anything she said. On the other hand, as great and sexy as the Dead Weather sounded, I don't know if I want to bed someone who demands I treat her like my mother. Old Crow Medicine Show suggested letting a woman rule your mind leads to troubles during "Minglewood Blues." Instead, let her win your heart with country-fried dinner.
Faith No More's twelve-song set included a cameo by a semi-streaker who happened to be Coachella regular Danny Devito. You can see that happen in one of the videos below. Faith No More's whole setlist is down there too.
Porcupine Tree, Tokyo Police Club, Hot Chip, The Almighty Defenders, Les Claypool, Devo, and Muse were also on the bill Saturday. Our review, pictures and videos from Friday are HERE. Saturday continues below...
Faith No More @ the Warfield (Dina Marie)
"Faith No More really kicked ass tonite at their first hometown show in many years....Neil Hamburger killed as MC and the ladies (and gents!) of Trannyshack put on a bloody good show too!" [Dina Marie]Faith No More played their first U.S. reunion show last night (4/12). The show was also their first of three nights in a row at the Warfield Theatre in their hometown of San Francisco. A video, the poster and the setlist is below.
Mike Patton & band (that doesn't include Jim Martin) also revealed more shows, in part via a t-shirt at the show (pictured below). In addition to the previously announced (sold out) July 5th show at Williamsburg Waterfront in Brooklyn, the band will play a show at the same venue three days earlier (Friday, July 2nd), and a show at The Mann Center in Philadelphia one day after that. Tickets for the new Brooklyn show go on sale Friday (4/16) at noon.
All together that makes seven upcoming U.S. dates - the three in SF, two in NYC, one in Philly and this weekend at Coachella. The t-shirt seems to imply there won't be any other dates in 2010. Maybe they'll do a bigger tour later in the year or in 2011? The "Second Coming" dates and other stuff below...
Faith No More announces their first east coast show in more than a decade - to be held on July 5, 2010 to benefit the Open Space Alliance for North Brooklyn (OSA). The show will be a part of a series of benefit concerts for OSA to take place at the Williamsburg Waterfront this summer.Faith No More play Coachella in April. Tickets are also on sale for two shows in San Francisco.
The band, which regrouped in 2009 after a 12-year hiatus, said in an official statement they, "only hope that the experience of playing together again will yield results erratic and unpredictable enough to live up to the legacy of Faith No More."
"The benefit shows will help fund the restoration and preservation of parks in North Brooklyn, and subsidize the cost of free concerts at the Williamsburg Waterfront," said Stephanie Thayer, OSA's Executive Director. "As nearby McCarren Park Pool is being renovated, OSA is pleased to continue its tradition of bringing outdoor music to North Brooklyn."
Tickets will be available to the public on Friday March 19th at 12:00pm EST at Ticketmaster.com, charge by phone 800.745.3000 and at the Nokia Theatre Times Square Box Office, where there is no service fee.
The Open Space Alliance for North Brooklyn (OSA) www.osanb.org is a nonprofit organization helping to preserve and enhance green space in North Brooklyn. OSA raises funds, links community volunteers, and works in partnership with elected officials and agencies to develop new parks, and improve existing parks in Williamsburg/Greenpoint.
The Williamsburg Waterfront is located at North 8th Street & Kent Avenue on the East River in Brooklyn, NY.
This is the first Williamsburg Waterfront concert announcement of 2010 and the first time a show at the space will cost money. Last year I don't think they could get the details worked out in time.
A series of eight free Pool Party shows will also return to the space this summer, thanks in part to the help of local politicians.
McCarren Pool also used to have a mix of pay and free concerts in the same Brooklyn neighborhood before it had to close which inspired the creation of the concert series at Williamsburg Waterfront (essentially McCarren Pool's replacement). Central Park Summerstage and Prospect Park's Celebrate Brooklyn series at the Prospect Park Bandshell also have a mix of free and "benefit" concerts each summer.
Wow...Public Image Ltd, The Specials, Grizzly Bear, Passion Pit, Echo and the Bunnymen, Grace Jones, Fever Ray, Devo, Hot Chip, Phoenix, Orbital, Spoon, Sly and the Family Stone, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Sunny Day Real Estate, Yo La Tengo, Mew, Camera Obscura, Gil Scott-Heron, The xx, John Waters, Dillinger Escape Plan, Deer Tick, Gary Numan... Brooklyn's own Hull will release Sole Lord via The End Records on May 26th. Spanning ten tracks over 44 minutes, and boasting art work by Josh Graham, look for the the band to kill it TONIGHT (4/16) at Union Pool when they open for the mighty Withered joined by Book of Black Earth and Hallux.
Withered's OTHER touring partners, Marduk, will enter Endarker studios in early May to record the follow-up to Rom 5:12, or their eleventh studio album. Look for it to drop in September, followed by the Funeral Nation World Tour 2009 and into 2010. Marduk will be at Irving Plaza on May 21 with Withered and Mayhem. Tickets are still available.
It a stroke of awesome luck, KARMA TO f'n BURN will be in NYC next monday (4/20) at Lit Lounge along with the mighty Tiger Flowers. Clear your schedules.
Landmine Marathon who I to NYC tommorrow (4/17) to slay The Charleston, are currently taking a break from writing their new album for Prosthetic. No word on when that record will show its ugly face, but in the mean time, make sure to... get. Your ass. To. The. Charleston!
Ringworm are currently writing their new album, The Ninth Circle, hoping to hit the studio this summer for a fall release on Victory Records. Ringworm dropped The Venomous Grand Design on Victory in 2007.
Saint Vitus LIVE (more by Firebaugh)
Over the past weekend (April 11), Saint Vitus played a single US date in New Orleans, where they were joined on stage by Pepper Keenan (Down, COC), Jimmy Bower (Down, Eyehategod), and Phil Anselmo (Pantera, Down). Luckily there was a camera in attendance, and you can watch the entire show here. Saint Vitus will headline at Roadburn this weekend. Me jealous.
Municipal Waste have announced completion of Massive Aggressive, their new album recorded with Zeuss. Look for it August 24th on Earache. Meanwhile, you can face the Waste at Roseland with Lamb Of God, Children Of Bodom, and As I Lay Dying. Tickets are still available.
Victims have added Raging Speedhorn guitarist Gareth Smith, and will drop a new 7" entitled Lies Lies Lies on Deathwish. Meanwhile, make sure to catch the Swedish crew on tour with Trap Them and Black Breath!
The previously announced Buried Inside date as part of Show No Mercy (5/3), will serve as one date on a four stop New York state tour. Show No Mercy at Public Assembly is scheduled for 5/3 with headliners A Life Once Lost, Rosetta, and repeat offenders Wetnurse.

Relapse is KILLIN' IT in the 09 so far. In one month's time, Relapse will destroy the Earth with THREE grind releases that could all potentially make my list of favorites for the year! First up, Mumakil's new album Behold The Failure which is out NOW on Relapse. Made up of ex members of Knut, Behold The Failure has been in constant rotation since it dropped on Mar 31st. Hear the whole thing here. Then on April 17th, Relapse aims to make you empty your wallets, by releasing both the new Brutal Truth (Evolution Through Revolution) and Agoraphobic Nosebleed (Agorapocalypse) on THE SAME DAY. In other ANb/Brutal Truth news, if you skate, dig on the ANb, Total Fucking Destruction (featuring Richard Hoak of BT), Crom, and Cryptic Slaughter decks for sale here. ANb and Crom dropped a split 7" which is fading fast.... head here to scoop it before it goes bye-bye.
A month or so after the grind mayhem, Relapse will drop the new Coalesce, Ox, their first record since the classic 0:12 Revolution is Just Listening which was release TEN YEARS AGO. The quartet recently debuted two new tracks; check out "Wild Ox Moan" streaming at their myspace and download "Questions To Root Out Fools" above!
Swedish gore-grinders General Surgery will drop their new album Corpus In Extremis on Listenable Records on April 7th, which includes the massive "Restrained Remains" available for download above! Check out their myspace page or their home page for a preview, dig on the album cover (to the right), and swing way low for tour dates.
Mournful Congregation recently dropped their new LP, The June Frost, on Enucleation Records, and if you like your guitar chords served up in first-gear (or maybe even in neutral) this funeral doom opus is for you. Check out the above snippet MP3 featuring moments from The June Frost above, and pick that record up here. For more on the band, check out an interview with Mournful Congregation here.
The Atomic Bitchwax will re-release their LP TAB4 on Tee Pee Records. Check out "Revival" available for download above and look for the record on 4/21.
Weekend Nachos have offered up two new songs from their upcoming LP Unforgivable due on Deep Six Records in May. Check out "Pain Over Acceptance" and "Shot In The Head" downloadable above.

Secret Chiefs 3 (more by Zach Dilgard)
Secret Chiefs 3 recently played the Oddity Faire at Terminal 5 with Les Claypool, Saul Williams, and O'Death, and will be back in NYC again on May 30th, this time tackling Music Hall of Williamsburg. Tickets are now on sale.
Judging by the above photo and the fact that sunn 0))) collaborator Eyvind Kang is currently a member, the SC3-unfamiliar might think that the band dips their toes in the same pond as Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson. Not so. Although the experimental spirit of sunn 0))) is present, SC3 has more in common with mastermind Trey Spruance's other projects, Mr Bungle and Faith No More:
Secret Chiefs 3, also known as SC3, is a group of musicians led by composer and producer Trey Spruance, former guitarist of Mr. Bungle and Faith No More. Their studio recordings and tours have featured different line-ups, as the group performs a wide range of musical styles including surf rock, Persian, Arabic, Indian, death metal, film music, electronic music, and various others...Secret Chiefs 3 dropped Xaphan: Book of Angels Volume 9 on Tzadik (John Zorn's label) in May of 2008.
Spruance formed the band in the mid-nineties with fellow Mr. Bungle members Trevor Dunn on bass and Danny Heifetz on drums [ed: Trevor has since moved on]. Some of the many musicians who have since recorded or toured with SC3 are violinist Eyvind Kang, percussionist William Winant, former Mr. Bungle member Clinton "Bär" McKinnon, and Estradasphere members Timb Harris, Jason Schimmel, and Tim Smolens.
No more SC3 tour dates yet. Some videos below...
DO NOT BRINGFaith No More's first confirmed 2009 appearance has been announced. As you can see above, they one of three headliners at this year's Download Festival in Donington Park ("where the three counties of Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire meet. - The ley-lines of ROCK!!"). Take a look at that lineup... I guess the haters win round one on this reunion (thx Zach).
Offensive weapons or anything that may be considered offensive, even if you're planning to use it for camping ( it won't be allowed in )
This includes: ANY glass containers, Prams or pushchairs ( the festival site is not suitable for them or their occupants!) ANY pets, Laser pens ( they are dangerous and may result in eviction without refund )
Gas cylinders and petrol fuelled cookers will not be permitted in the main campsite. Anyone found in possession of a gas cylinder or petrol may be asked to leave.
The suggested cooking stoves allowed are any solid fuel type such as Disposable BBQ's, Hexi Stove with solid fuel block
Standard compact cameras will be permitted, though you will not be able to take in a professional camera e.g. One with interchangeable lenses.
P.S. "Faith No More's appearance at Download 2009 will be their ONLY UK date this year."
Faith No More has always stood out as some sort of unique beast; part dog, part cat--its music almost as schizophrenic as the personalities of its members. When it all worked, it worked really well, even if the chemistry was always volatile. Throughout our 17 years of existence, the mental and physical energy required to sustain this creature was considerable and relentless. Though amicable enough, when we finally split, we all followed paths seemingly destined to opposite ends of the universe. We now have to hope they will end up in the United States because at the moment there's only been talk of a European tour.
Yet during the entire 10 years that have passed since our decision to break up we've experienced constant rumors and requests from fans and promoters alike. Nevertheless, for whatever reason, none of us kept in regular touch, much less to discuss any possibilities of getting together.
What's changed is that this year, for the first time, we've all decided to sit down together and talk about it. And what we've discovered is that time has afforded us enough distance to look back on our years together through a clearer lens and made us realize that through all the hard work, the music still sounds good, and we are beginning to appreciate the fact that we might have actually done something right.
Meanwhile we find ourselves at a moment in time with zero label obligations, still young and strong enough to deliver a kickass set, with enthusiasm to not only revisit our past but possibly add something to the present. And so with this we've decided to hold our collective breaths and jump off this cliff....
BACK, GOD FORBID, INTO THE MONKEY CAGE!!!
We can only hope that the experience of playing together again will yield results erratic and unpredictable enough to live up to the legacy of FNM.
Who know where this will end or what it will bring up...only the future knows. But we are about to find out!
FAITH NO MORE are:
Mike Bordin, Roddy Bottum, Bill Gould, Jon Hudson and Mike Patton
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 24 -- Mike Patton (Fantômas, Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Peeping Tom and the forthcoming Mondo Cane amongst others) has just completed his first major motion film score for the film "Crank 2: High Voltage" (Apr. 17 release).!!!
While Patton has often dabbled in film whether it was lending his voice to the creatures in "I Am Legend", his score for the indie film noir short "A Perfect Place" or Fantômas' film scoring interpretation via The Director's Cut, this marks his first proper film score.
Created during the latter half of 2008, Patton holed up in a Los Angeles studio and eliminated all other projects during the recording, a point worth noting as he is well known for being one of modern music's most prolific artists.
Patton has also provided vocals to several videogames including "Bionic Commando," "Portal," "Left 4 Dead," and "The Darkness." He also lent his voice to Adult Swim's Metalocalypse (character name: Rikki Kix). Patton just wrapped up a trek across Australia with Fantômas as part of the Big Day Out festival. His upcoming schedule includes a performance with labelmates Zu (Mar. 19 @ Great American Music Hall in San Francisco), the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on Apr. 17 with Rahzel (ex-Roots beatboxer) and the highly anticipated reunion tour with Faith No More in Europe this summer.
To quote the Daily Swarm, "Seems the PR company feels scoring the latest Jason Statham sequel is bigger news than one of the most inventive heavy bands of the 80s and 90s reuniting after 11 years."
In related news, the pre-Patton frontman of Faith No More, Chuck Mosley, "is currently recording a new album at Ante Up Audio recording studios in Cleveland, Ohio. Multi-platinum producer/engineer Michael Seifert (Tori Amos, Regina Spektor, Dave Matthews, Bone Thugs 'n Harmony) is currently working on the new release with Chuck. The album is sure to please fans new and old, with a mix of hard rock and acoustic numbers." (thx Klaus)
