Fake Male Voice @ Glasslands in February (more by Jacob Blickenstaff)

Thanks to everyone who came out to our day party at Pianos yesterday. There were almost too many highlights to count. We've got four more parties still to come, three of which are today/tonight. Lots of great options all around today (10/23). I'm trying to highlight some of the ones you may not know about.

DAYTIME:

BrooklynVegan has another free day party today, this one on the harder-edged tip with Los Angeles' Nebula, Brooklyn's Naam, BV day party veterans Crystal Antlers, Goes Cube (read our interview with the band) and Austin's awesome Ume at Fontana's (105 Eldridge, NY, NY) today from 1 - 7. First band on at 2. Set times and flyer below. Free Miller beer and Vitamin water.

Over at Crash Mansion, there's a cool mid-day party (4 - 7) put on by the folks at Beyond Race with the lovely and mellow Helado Negro, Kiss Kiss, L.A. power poppers Army Navy and London's awesome Pete & the Pirates. who played a great set at the Bell House on Wednesday Night. Don't forget, Pete & the Pirates also play the Brooklyn Vegan Bowery Presents day party Saturday (10/24) at Pianos.

There's a lot going on in Brooklyn today too. The new Kemado Studios called The Co-Op (87 Guernsey St, Brooklyn) (which I hear is a pretty cool space) has Harlem, Viva L'American Death Ray Music, and Smith Westerns.

The Village Voice is putting on a day party at Knitting Factory with Javelin, Portland's Shaky Hands, Headlights and Orba Squara.

And then at Bruar Falls there's a kind of potentially amazing line-up, including Fake Male Voice (Tunde of TV on the Radio), mi-gu (Yuko of Cornelius and Plastic Ono Band) with Sean Lennon and Yuko Honda, as well as Ladybug Transistor, James Husband (Jamie of Of Montreal) and Hard Nips. This one is not free, $8 admission. Starts at noon.

Deradoorian (Angel Deradoorian of Dirty Projectors) is set to release her debut solo EP, The Mind Raft, on May 5th via Lovepump United Records.

To celebrate, Angel will be playing a CD release show at the Cake Shop on Tuesday, May 5th. We have a pair of tickets to giveaway. Details on how to win below.

She'll also be sharing a bill with Chairlift, Takka Takka, and The Secret Life of Sofia at the Bell House on Sunday, May 10th. Tickets for that are on sale.

In addition to her playing with Dirty Projectors while at SXSW, Angel also performed her solo material at the fest. And she discussed the new record with Austinist...

Austinist: Was the recording of Mind Raft all done at home? Do you have orchestral ambitions for your first full-length?

Angel: Mind Raft was recorded in a studio space in Bushwick. Many of the drum recordings were done in other studio spaces. It was kind of sporadically put together, but it all fit in somehow. You mean using orchestral instruments? I don't know if I've gotten that far quite yet in my mind. I'm still working on the concept at this point and understanding how to write songs.

Though she's predominantly known as 1/4 of Dirty Projectors (now 1/6 with addition of bassist Nat Baldwin and vocalist Haley Dekle), Angel also sings and performs with other bands at times. On May 8th she gets to play with Bjork. Sometimes she's a member of Department of Eagles. Videos of Angel playing with Fake Male Voice and Inlets (and ticket give-away details) below...

Last time we talked about Kyp Malone performing, it was with TV on the Radio on Saturday Night Live and the Colbert Report. Before that it it was with Iran in regards to their upcoming show at Mercury Lounge with Handsome Furs which sold right out.

The second is Sunday night, February 15th, at Death By Audio. It's Iran's record release party. Dissolver is out (physically) on February 17th via Narnack Records. Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson is also on that bill, as are The Fakers and Pure Horsehair. Iran are also playing SXSW. TV on the Radio are also playing Coachella and Bonnaroo.

TV on the Radio appeared on the Colbert Report last night. Watch the whole episode at Comedy Central's website. TVOTR were on SNL two days earlier. Tunde Adebimpe (Fake Male Voice) plays Glasslands in Gallery in Brooklyn tonight (2/10).

Speaking of Comedy Central, The Daily Show correspondent Demetri Martin has a series starting on the channel on Wednesday. Jon Stewart is the new show's producer.

TVOTR topped this year's Pazz & Jop Critics' Poll (unlike two years ago). You can read the whole poll HERE (and that's the cover of the recent Village Voice issue it was in, above).

As you probably heard by now, TV on the Radio, like Fleet Foxes before them, are the musical guest on Saturday Night Live this weekend.

Tunde Adebimpe has a new solo project called Fake Male Voice. Fake Male Voice is the name he's playing under at Glasslands Gallery this Tuesday, February 10th. Tonight (2/6) at the Stone, as previously mentioned, he's just plain old Tunde (with Ryan Sawyer on drums). It's an 8:00 show. Kria Brekken plays the same venue at 10:00.

Kyp has a show coming up with Iran at Mercury Lounge.

TV on the Radio is also playing Bonnaroo and Coachella.
