A Storm of Light at the Tone Deaf showcase (more by Greg Cristman)

A Storm of Light plays NYC TONIGHT as part of a round of dates with Mustard Gas & Roses (mem Isis) and Magic Circle. Tickets are still available for the Saint Vitus show. The band recently played a round of dates surrounding SXSW including the Tone Deaf showcase (pictures). Tonight's show is in direct competition with Hull, Mutilation Rites, Batillus and Trenchgrinder at Acheron, the latter two of which played Lovejoy's as part of the BV Day Party. Hull also played Red 7 with Fear on 3/15, which was down the street from Pallbearer, Screaming Females, Ringworm & Power Trip (pictures).

Punk rock crew Kim Phuc will team with Family Curse and Herzog Rising to play Death By Audio on April 7th. The show is one of a few notable and recently added shows at the space, including April 14th with White Suns (who have a new LP on Load, stream a song below), Pop 1280, and Richard, April 28th with Dysrhythmia, Kayo Dot & Vaura, and 4/29 with a mystery guest, Child Abuse, Behold...The Arctopus and PAK.

Youth Attack have updated their site with orders for the new Salvation House of the Beating Hell EP, new second Hoax EP, a new ARTS LP Thousand Wounds of War, and so much more. Head to their site for more details (I recommend the Hoax, ARTS and Salvation records).

If you missed it, we posted two sets of pictures from Deatmatch during SXSW (SET 1, SET 2), a set of pictures from Lovejoy's during SXSW, my official showcase during SXSW, and pictures from our bridge show. We welcomed a new EP from Cop Problem, interviews with Black God, new shows from Ilsa, Rorschach, Old Man Gloom, D-Clone, Young Widows, Autopsy and more. Got stoked and then immediately diappointed with the Kiss it Goodbye reunion and scratched our heads in disbelief at the "Death to All" reunion and Wolvhammer cover of The Cure (the latter in a positive way).

Riverboat Gamblers @ The Studio

Brooklyn rock'n'roll wrecking ball Ex-Humans opened the show at the The Studio at Webster Hall on Septmeber 2nd with their fast, hard-hitting songs that blend punk and rock. Most of the songs they played can be found on their just released, self-titled album, on Rob's House Records. I asked Todd (bass) how it was to play with the Gamblers, "It's a blast. We're good friends with those guys, and it's always great to see them. We were all worried after Ian's accident, so it's awesome to see him back onstage again."

Ian's accident (he was hit by a car on his bike last October) had sidelined Riverboat Gamblers after the release of their latest album, "Underneath the Owl," on Volcom Entertainment, but as anyone at their show at Webster Hall Studio show last Thursday will attest, Ian and the band are back and stronger than ever. Their set included all the elements that make a classic Gamblers show: gang-vocal choruses, razor sharp hooks, drinks flying, and of course vocalist Mike Weibe jumping and climbing all over the stage and hanging from anything that looks like it might hold him. They played a wide range of songs from all their albums, and a new song, tentatively titled "What are you waiting for?" The show ended with Mike hanging from a light rack and dropping the mic into the crowd for them to sing along, before letting go and singing while being passed along on top of the audience.

The Meatmen are hitting the road tomorrow (4/16) for a Northeast tour including April 19th at Europa in Brooklyn with Chapstik, Loafass, and The Blackout Shoppers. Tickets are on sale. A little more than two weeks after The Meatmen wrap things up in Columbus, Ohio, the band will head out to the west coast for a second leg. All tour dates are below.

The Meatmen recently dropped a collection of covers and their first album in thirteen years, Cover The Earth. Featuring 24 covers of songs from "40 years of our favorite tunes", Tesco Vee & the boys recorded songs by Motorhead, GG Allin, Thin Lizzy, The Fugs, Roky Erickson, Fear and many others. Speaking of Fear, the LA band has scheduled a pair of NYC dates at Europa on May 6th (tickets) and May 7th (tickets). Credit Mongrel with the assist on both nights, while Tall Black Girls & Violent Bullshit will open May 6th and Cerebral Ballzy & Runny will rock the 7th. Besides the NYC double header, Fear are also playing May 8th at Club Hell in Providence and May 9th at The Trocadero in Philadelphia. Lee Ving also recently opened a twitter account here.

As previously mentioned, The Fugs, who are also covered on Cover The Earth, will play The Bell House in Brooklyn on April 29th with Acrylics, White Williams, Golden Triangle and many others. The show is "a benefit concert... to raise money for Rory O'Sullivan, ...a 24 year old aspiring filmmaker suffering from a massive brain tumor". Regular tickets are on sale, and you can buy VIP tickets which include all types of freebies and will benefit a bonfide 501 (c)(3)... Those of you who just finished your taxes may know what that is.
