BrooklynVegan @ SXSW 2012 - Hotel Vegas and the Voldstead Lounge

BrooklynVegan's Hotel Vegan, located at Austin venues Hotel Vegas & Volstead Lounge, began at noon back on Wednesday, 3/14/2012, on three stages. As "bob dylan wrote propaganda songs" points out:

"...it offered the perfect setting for seeing multiple bands within an intimate setting in a short amount of time. Sure it was a long walk down Sixth Street to get there, and it may not have been the most well kempt venue (I'll be honest, it was a shit-hole), but the three stage set-up provided for prime SXSW day party viewing. I had the pleasure of seeing Chelsea Wolfe, Japandroids, Frankie Rose, Deaf Heaven, and Japandroids all within the span of a couple hours. All of these bands were on my list of bands I wanted to see, and thanks to this venue, I was able to cross more bands off my list than past years"
One of the stages on Wednesday was dedicated to Chicago bands courtesy of BV Chicago, and one was put together by BBG. It was on the latter that we hosted an afternoon set by Deafheaven who created NY Mag's Nitsuh Abebe's favorite moment of SXSW 2012.

Like on Friday and all four days, we served complimentary HobNob Wines all day. On Wednesday we also proudly passed out Brooklyn Brewery beer and Sailor Jerry drinks.

Special thanks to our official backline providers Vox, Blackstar and Korg, and thank you to NadaMoo for supplying free vegan treats, and to Honest Tea for the tea.

Fielded
Fielded

Phantom Family Halo and Fielded will team up for a string of dates that will include a special "quiet side set" for the former at Death By Audio on July 31. All other tour dates are below. The Death By Audio appearance will be Lindsay Powell's seventh NYC appearance in recent months, as she has played four with Fielded and another pair of shows as part of Ga'an.

Lindsay Powell is currently working on a new LP to follow-up the previously released White Dwarf 7" and the Terrageist 12".

Fielded

The gothic no-wave sounds of Chicago's Fielded can be found across four NYC venues in the days coming. Wierd Records will host lone member Lindsay Powell (also of Ga'an) with KTAOABC (Belgium) and DJ Samhain at Home Sweet Home (131 Chrystie St) at Midnight TONIGHT (4/13).

If you can't make it tonight, then make sure to get out to one of the other stellar shows booked in the coming days. Thursday she'll hit Death By Audio with Lichens, Noveller, and Psychic Reality, Coco66 is Saturday (4/16) with The Diamond Center, Phantom Family Halo, and Chron Turbine, and then Red Light District on 4/17 with Daily Life, Francisco Franco, Skatman, & Dustbelt.

Download 'Another Time' above. The song, which we've posted before, comes from her 2010 album Terrageist. Since then she released a limited "White Death" 7" via Sophomore Lounge Records. Fans of recently-popular acts like Zola Jesus and Tamaryn should especially take note, and listen to the whole thing, which you can do with some videos, and all dates, below...

Kayo Dot at The Stone (more by Paul Birman)
Kayo Dot

Kayo Dot just celebrated Coyote, and will now show off their new baby Stained Glass (due this fall via Hydra Head) at a show at Bowery Electric TUESDAY (8/24) with Cleric and Bad Girlfriend (who will also play Union Pool with Hallux). The avant garde team will play a pair of sets at Bowery Electric, the second being "an exposé on the bass guitar sound used in Coyote".

For Kayo Dot honcho Toby Driver, the show means two in three days as he played Zebulon last night with as part of Tartar Lamb alongside Seaven Teares (Charlie Looker's new project), and mezzo-soprano Amirtha Kidambi/percussionist Cory Bracken (who performed works by John Cage, Larry Polansky, Morton Feldman and many others). Tartar Lamb recently kickstarted their campaign to record a follow-up to 2006's 60 Metonymies.

Meanwhile, last night at Bruar Falls, Kevin Hufnagel (Gorguts, Dysrhythmia) played a solo show with Religious To Damn (mem A Storm of Light), Fielded, and Psychic Steel. Both Fielded (the solo project of Lindsay Powell of Ga'an/Festival) and Psychic Steel are currently on the road and will loop through Death By Audio TONIGHT to team up with Lichens and Driphouse. Fielded will release Terrageist, the new LP due on September 7th via Catholic Tapes. Dig on "Another Time" above and check out the video/stream some more material below.

Lichens recently supported Hallogallo at Maxwell's, will support Sleep in Chicago (with Ga'an) and is also scheduled to play the now sold-out Sleep show at Brooklyn Masonic Temple on 9/8. Tickets are still available though, for a SECOND (actually first) NYC show for Sleep on 9/6, this time with support from Doomriders and Unearthly Trance (no Lichens).

Dates and videos below...
