Floating Points (photo by Louise Haywood-Schiefer)
UK producer Floating Points releases his first full length, Elaenia, next week (11/6) via Luaka Bop, and he's now streaming it in full. It was recorded with a full band and it still has elements of dance music, but it's often more of a chilled-out jazz album than anything else. It's good stuff, and you can listen to the whole thing below (via NPR)
Floating Points is going on a tour as an 11-piece band, including a NYC show on 11/7 at MHOW which is part of the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival. BEMF just announced their second round of artists, including the Soulection Crew, Eats Everything, a Fool's Gold 8th Anniversary Party, Will Clarke & Soul to Seoul, Paul Raffaele, Nadus, DJ Afrika Bambataa, Spank, Fixed and Discwoman.

Sad news from Fool's Gold Records. They write:
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of original Fool's Gold co-founder and art director Joshua Prince, aka Dust La Rock. Cause of death is currently unknown.
Dust La Rock founded the label along with DJs A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs, and has created album artwork for A-Trak, as well as Danny Brown, Action Bronson and others.

Can't fucking believe this!!!!"
Rest in peace, Dust. You'll be missed.

Descendents at FFFFest (more by Tim Griffin)
Much like last year, FYF Fest 2011 is poppin' off with some incredible bands, many of whom recently reunited. This year the LA fest will host a coveted Descendents appearance, a Death From Above 1979 show, Guided By Voices, another Kid Dynamite reunion, The Dead Milkmen, Explosions in the Sky, the return of The Weakerthans and many, many notable others. Full lineup is below. The show goes down at 1st and Main in downtown Los Angeles on September 3rd. Tickets are on sale.
For Kid Dynamite, which features members of Lifetime, Paint it Black and None More Black, the reunion is their first since re-emerging for This is Hardcore last year with Ink & Dagger. The band called it quits in 2000 and reunited in 2005 at CBGB and some other times too. I hope they schedule another NYC show, but it's just LA for now.
This is Hardcore THIS YEAR features an appearance from Ressurection, which also featured Dan Yemin on guitar. Tickets for This is Hardcore 2011, taking place in Philly's Starlight Ballroom, is mostly sold-out, with tickets for the Sunday show still available.
The Descendents appearance at FYFest is one of several dates scheduled for the reunited band, NYC's Roseland, Chicago Riot Fest, and Philly's Riot Fest included. Tickets are still available for the 9/23 Roseland show.
Mister Heavenly will hit the road for a string of dates on the West Coast leading up to FYF Fest. Check out their full tour schedule below, and look for their new LP Out of Love on 8/16 via Sub Pop. Check out "Pineapple Girl" from that record above.
The Death From Above 1979 appearance is one of several slated for the band in the coming months, including a 7/22 appearance at Williamsburg Waterfront. Tickets are still available OR, you can try your hand by winning a pair at our Facebook. The full set of DFA1979 dates are below.
The Weakerthans have a few other dates slated for Europe and Canada in the coming months. Hopefully they add more US dates too. All dates for now are listed below.
A few bands on the FYFest lineup (namely, Cults, Off!, and No Age) will also appear in NYC at the House of Vans this summer, and for FREE. The FYF-presented House of Vans series of shows starts this Thursday (6/30). You just have to RSVP to get in (and maybe get there early).
All Weakerthans, DFA1979, and Mister Heavenly dates, some video, and the full FYF Fest lineup is below.

"Last night at BK Bowl. Stuff of legends. Kanye x DipSet x GZA x Donnis x CyHi x The Suzan x Treasure Fingers x Kindgom. FOOOOOL'S GOOOOOLD!" - Chromeo
"It was a rumor the whole night-- first a whisper, then a text, then a Tweet, then a blog post. It seemed too improbable to be true. Kanye West performing at Williamsburg's 600-capacity Brooklyn Bowl?! No way. But then, around 2 a.m., the man showed up on Pitchfork's #Offline Festival stage with his Horus chain and pyramid ring to celebrate the third anniversary of his friend and collaborator A-Trak's Fool's Gold imprint. He would go onto perform an all-killer five-song set of nothing but 2010 Internet smashes: "So Appalled", "Monster", "Devil in a New Dress", "Power", and "Runaway".More pictures and videos from the Scion-sponsored Fool's Gold Anniversary Party that went down at Brooklyn Bowl late Saturday night (10/23), below...
While Kanye was naturally the star of the evening, he was not the only surprise. GZA rolled through after Kanye's set to lead a "Shimmy Shimmy Ya" sing-a-long and do "Liquid Swords" and Chromeo (led by singer Dave 1, who is also A-Trak's brother) stopped by deep in the night. Other performers for the anniversary blowout included G.O.O.D. Music up-and-comer CyHi Da Prynce, Japanese rockers the Suzan, MPC freak araabMUZIK, and Atlanta DJ and producer Treasure Fingers." [Pitchfork]
Freddie Gibbs will rhyme all over Glasslands on Friday (10/22) when he hits the Yours Tru.ly showcase alongside Sun Airway, Cults, Kisses, Laurel Halo, Candy Claws, Young Man, Oberhofer, Guards, and James Vincent McMorrow. The show is the day before he hits the #OFFLINE Pitchfork party at Brooklyn Bowl (10/23) which will also feature Cults. Tour dates are below.
Dent May is prepping to play the Chocolate Bobka day party at Pianos as we speak (10/20, set is at 6PM), and will be joined by Woodsman, Sultan, and many others on it's two floors. Git on down there! Or if you can't make it today, then catch Dent May at the #OFFLINE party at Brooklyn Bowl Thursday, or the Forest Family/Gorilla Vs Bear party later that day (doors at 6) at The Pyramids (32D South 1st Street) with Marnie Stern, Eternal Summers, La Cera, Family Trees, Luke Rathbone, Young Prisms, Slow Animal, and... Surfer Blood.
Small Black is hitting the road with Class Actress for a string of US dates, and will follow those up with some in the EU. But before that, the band has a CMJ showcase (and the non-CMJ #OFFLINE show) to headline at Pianos on 10/21, stocked with bands like Sun Airway, La Ices, S.Carey, and Suuns who also plays the BrooklynVegan showcase the same night.
Speaking of the BrooklynVegan showcase and #OFFLINE, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart are now playing both. They've always been our Thursday night headliner (tickets are getting close to sold out) and Pitchfork just added them to their Saturday show. They added Titus Andronicus to that day too, and released the set times for all three days. The Fool's Gold 3rd Anniversary Party portion happens late Saturday night (starts at midnight). All the set times are below.
You can spend all day at Public Assembly on Saturday, and still get to Brooklyn Bowl in time to see Ty Segall, Pains, Matthew Dear, Freddie Gibbs, Titus for a 2nd time, and all of the Fool's Gold stuff.
Highlife plays the Chouette show at Bruar Falls today at 4PM (10/20) with Sharon Van Etten and Lower Dens (who play the BV Day Party on Fri), but also will play the Invisible Children/Blogotheque Showcase on 10/22 as well as the #OFFLINE party at Brooklyn Bowl the next day (10/23). The Blogtheque showcase will go down at SPiN NYC (48 East 23rd St) and will also feature Traffique and Yellow Ostrich.
How to Dress Well will do double duty TONIGHT (10/20), playing the Ramiken Crucible with Salem and then the Lefse/I Guess I'm Floating CMJ showcase at The Delancey later on with A Classic Education and many others. In addition to playing the #OFFLINE party at Brooklyn Bowl on 10/22, he'll also DJ the Altered Zones after-party at Glasslands with John Maus, Prince Rama, Greatest Hits, Teen Inc, Hippos in Tanks DJs, and more. The next day, you can catch HTDW at the Fader Fort with OFF!, Teen Inc, Wack Flocka Flame, Royal Bangs, Tanlines, Glasser and others. RSVP here.
Exhausted yet? Our full guide to tonight/Wednesday is HERE. Dates for artists mentioned above, set times and stuff below...
Matthew Dear @ MHOW in 2008 (more by Bao Nguyen)
As mentioned, Pitchfork will be hosting three days of shows at Brooklyn Bowl during, but-it-looks-like/probably completely unaffiliated with, CMJ this year (Thursday/Friday/Saturday CMJ week). The festival starts at 2 p.m. each day, with doors opening at 1 p.m. Tickets are $10, both in advance and day of the show." They're calling it the #OFFLINE Festival.
