Four Tet already released a new album this year and he's staying prolific. In the past week, he's released a remix of CHVRCHES' "Leave A Trace," a new track called "Digital Arpeggios" under his Percussions moniker, and a stream of his full set at this year's Dekmantel Festival. Listen to all of that below.
He'll also be doing a lot of touring, including a lot of European dates and a few US shows mixed in. One of those US shows is in NYC on December 2 at Output. Tickets are on sale now.
All dates are listed below...
Earlier in the year, Four Tet mentioned he was working on the followup to 2013's Beautiful Rewind. Like he did with that album, he dropped the whole thing on us without announcing the release date. It's called Morning/Evening, and it came out yesterday in celebration of the summer solstice. The album features two songs in 40 minutes. Listen below...
Syrian singer Omar Souleyman will release his new album, Bahdeni Nami, on July 28 via Modeselektor's Monkeytown Records. That's the cover art above and Modeselektor produced some of it, like the nine-minute "Enssa El Aatab" which you can stream below. Four Tet and Giles Peterson offer up production as well on the album.
Souleyman is in the US currently, playing the Treefort Festival in Boise, ID tonight, Slingshot fest in Athens, GA on Friday (3/27) and the Big Ears fest in Knoxville, TN on Saturday (3/28). He'll be back in May for a few more shows, including one at NYC's Le Poisson Rouge on May 22 with Tasseomancy. Tickets go on sale Friday (3/27) at 10 AM.
All dates are listed, along with the new song stream, below.

IDM great Four Tet is working on the followup to 2013's Beautiful Rewind -- earlier this month he tweeted that side 1 is done -- and he's busy with other stuff too. Just a few days ago, he debuted a remix of Coldplay's "Fix You" on Jon Hopkins' BBC Radio 1 residency, and you can listen to that below.
Four Tet also has some shows coming up, a few of which will have him going b2b with the jazz-influenced UK bass producer Floating Points. One of those is in NYC on April 30 at Output. Tickets for that one are on sale now.
Four Tet and Floating Points also DJed together at the closing party for London club Plastic People in January. Listen to that mix, with the list of all currently announced dates and the Coldplay remix, below...
photo::: Caribou Vibration Ensembe @ ATP NY 2009 (more by Ryan Muir)
You may remember that Caribou toured as the Caribou Vibration Ensemble back in 2009 which featured Marshall Allen of the Sun Ra Arkestra, Four Tet's Kieran Hebden, Enon/Braniac's John Schmersal, Sinkane's Ahmed Gallab and more. CVE released a live album in 2010 and have now released a second, this time coming from two shows in December 2011 in Belgium and London with a slightly different lineup of the Ensemble, most notably minus minus Allen. You can stream that in full below and they'll have vinyl copies on tour this spring.
Meanwhile, there's also a live video of Caribou Vibration Ensemble from their ATP UK performance in 2011 that does feature Marshall Allen and the other folks on the live LP (ATP UK was just a few days later). That video was shot and directed by Savages drummer Fay Milton and you can watch that below as well.
As you may know Milton and the rest of Savages are in NYC this month for a nine-show club residency. Marshall Allen, meanwhile, will be here with Sun Ra Arkestra for a free show at the Seaport's inflatable venue Sugarcube on January 31.

Yesterday, Pitchfork posted their top 200 tracks of the decade so far, and today they've listed the top 100 albums to have come out between 2010-2014. There's some surprises on there. For example, I didn't expect to see Bon Iver's self-titled, their #1 album of 2011 and with a score of 9.5, rank as low as #27 on this list. I was also surprised to see Chief Keef make it but not, say, Shabazz Palaces or Schoolboy Q. And there's a few other glaring omissions: nothing by The National? Grizzly Bear? One thing that will surprise no one though, is their #1 pick.

Outkast / Nick Cave / Modest Mouse
Headliner OutKast took the stage with a more pertinent query: "Are you ready for the greatest rap group of all time?" It was classic rap hype, and yet as the ensuing 90 minutes proved, the recently reunited duo of Big Boi and Andre 3000 has earned the right to include itself in the ranks of the hip hop elite. Not only did these guys show no rust, they reminded us what made them great since their first album, Southernplayalisticadillacmusik, was released 20 years ago: a dynamic and utterly complementary MC team blessed with rare musicality, lyrical ingenuity and stylistic audacity. From frenetic opener Bombs Over Baghdad to the understatedly anthemic Wheelz of Steel, civil rights party jam Rosa Parks and the song that made them a household name, Ms. Jackson, they were at once authoritatively engaging and sonically adventurous. Sure, there were hits, lots - including irresistible genre-bender Hey Ya! (delivered by André 3000 with a line of female fans dancing on stage - cheesy, but effective), sly boast So Fresh, So Clean, and the beautifully sleepy Elevators - but it's all relative. At its best, OutKast mixed cool and creativity like nobody's business. [Montreal Gazette]Taking place over the same weekend as Lollapalooza, and boasting a similarly huge lineup, Montreal's annual music festival Osheaga went down over this past weekend (August 1-3). The stacked festival included sets from Outkast, Jack White, The Replacements (with Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong), Arctic Monkeys, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Modest Mouse, Danny Brown, Mac Demarco, Against Me!, The Dismemberment Plan, Haim and many more. Pictures of some of those artists, and a bunch of others, are in this post.
They continue below...
As previously discussed, the inaugural Hudson Project festival goes down from July 11-13 at Winston Farm in Saugerties, NY this year and since we last spoke, there's been a few additions to the lineup. As mentioned, Neneh Cherry will release Blank Project, her first solo album in 18 years, next week (2/25) via Smalltown Supersound. Produced by Four Tet, the record is stripped down, raw, and live, letting Cherry's still powerful voice carry most of the weight. Some of it even recall her early years in postpunk bands Rip Rig & Panic and Float Up CP, and Robyn shows up on "Out of the Black" for guest vocals. You can stream the Robyn collaboration and a couple other tracks below, or listen to the whole thing via NPR.
Neneh Cherry streams below...
The goal of the Everything is New project is to empower the children of Light of Love Children's Home, many of whom have been rescued from bonded labour, child prostitution, homelessness and abject poverty. The project creates the opportunity for the children to 'star' in the cultural forms they themselves consider most meaningful - popular music and cinema. The Everything is New project has resulted in two albums, both of which are out January 20: Sun Choir, which was composed and recorded by Scottish art-pop band Marram with the kids of Southeast India's Light of Love Children's Home and features guest appearances from Jarvis Cocker, Owen Pallett, Irvine Welsh and more; and BOATS where artists such as Four Tet, Rustie, Dan Deacon, YACHT, Bear in Heaven, Deerhoof's Greg Saunier, Max Tundra, Gang Gang Dance and more took samples of the children and built songs around them.
Proceeds from the project go to the charity Scottish Love in Action which feeds, clothes, houses, educates and provides medical care for over 500 children through the Light of Love Home and School. You can stream Rustie, YACHT, Jarvis Cocker and Four Tet's tracks below.
There's also a 70-minute feature film that's included with physical copies of the Sun Choir album. You can watch a short and a not so short making of videos below...
The xx in Tulum - 12/31/13 (via @hickduarte)
There were tons of New Year's Eve shows here in NYC, as well as around the rest of the country, and down in Mexico, the Young Turks label threw a party on the beach in popular tourist site Tulum (famous, among other things, for its ruins). It literally went all night, kicking off with some of the label's DJs at 8 PM, followed by Sampha, John Talabot, Chairlift, The xx, Grimes, SBTRKT, Koreless, Pional, Four Tet and others playing past 11 AM New Year's Day.
During SBTRKT's set, he revealed an unreleased Jessie Ware collaboration, "Runaway." You can stream that, along with a video featuring clips of multiple sets from the show, and a few more pics, below...

Syria's Omar Souleyman, now in Europe for more shows, has been keeping busy around the world and in NYC. Omar Souleyman @ Le Poisson Rouge - 10/16/13 (via @linyeezy)
Syrian pop singer Omar Souleyman is in NYC for CMJ for this week, and he just played the NPR showcase at Le Poisson Rouge last night (10/16), which also featured sets from rapper Pusha T, indie pop band Cults, and DJ Ali Shaheed Muhammad (of A Tribe Called Quest). Did you go to the show? How was it? For those who weren't in attendance, NPR streamed the whole thing live, and they'll be hosting an archive of the full show soon, so stay tuned for that.
Omar Souleyman's only other CMJ show is the BrooklynVegan day party on Friday (10/18) (happening a venue to be announced VERY soon) with The Head and the Heart (acoustic), Speedy Ortiz, Yamantaka // Sonic Titan, Hookworms, Eagulls, and Kirin J Callinan. The party runs from noon to 6 PM and Omar's on at 4:15. It's totally FREE (no badge, no RSVP), and we hope to see you there! More info here. Right after CMJ, Omar begins a European tour (Pitchfork Paris included), and all dates on that tour are listed below.
The tour and his CMJ appearances are in support of his new album, Wenu Wenu, which comes out next week (10/22) via Domino affiliate Ribbon Music. The record was produced entirely by electronic wizard Four Tet (who also just dropped his own album), who gives it a sharper edge than some of Omar's earlier work but without changing his sound or Westernizing it. You can stream the full album at NPR.
All dates are listed, along with a stream of the album's title track and a live video, below...
As discussed, Four Tet, who just played NYC with James Holden, is releasing a new album, Beautiful Rewind, this year. The album didn't have a release date announced but apparently that release date is... today! It's out now and you can stream it below...
THOM YORKE plays Barclays Center (with Flea) tonight/Friday with James Holden who then opens for Thom's good friend Four Tet in Williamsburg on Saturday, two days before Thom Yorke's good friend Flying Lotus plays Le Poisson Rouge (where Thom Yorke last played NYC, though Thom will be in Virgina by then).
ARCADE FIRE play Saturday Night Live (with Tina Fey) and a show after SNL Saturday, and then maybe will be around for the premiere of the Spike Jonze movie they soundtracked (along with Karen O) as part of the New York Film Festival, or related events (though "Her" doesn't actually premiere until the end of the film fest which runs through October 13). Superchunk, led by Arcade Fire's Merge Record label boss Mac, are also conveniently in NYC for the weekend.
JACK WHITE is on the lineup of Sunday's "Inside Llewyn Davis" event at Town Hall, another NY Film Fest related event (that Patti Smith, Colin Meloy of The Decemberists, Conor Oberst, Joan Baez, Marcus Mumford, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Punch Brothers, and the Avett Brothers are also playing) (if you miss it, it's being recorded for Showtime).
BONUS: Guy Picciotto (Fugazi), Jim White (Dirty Three), T. Griffin (The Quavers), Efrim Manuel Menuck and Sophie Trudeau (Godspeed You! Black Emperor), Jessica Moss (Thee Silver Mt. Zion), and Mira Billotte (of White Magic) are all at BAM Saturday night, Massive Attack, Horace Andy and Cocteau Twins singer Liz Fraser are at Park Ave Armory for multiple days, John Zorn is having a birthday party with Mike Patton and more, Eugene Mirman is having a comedy festival, Jimmy Cliff is at Webster Hall, and Stevie Wonder, Kings of Leon, Elvis Costello and more are playing in Central Park Saturday.
The possibilities are endless.

Four Tet at Electric Zoo 2013 (via Piotr Orlov)
Electronic music mastermind Four Tet is currently on an international tour, which just passed through NYC for his set at day 1 (8/30) of Electric Zoo this past weekend (video below), and now that E Zoo is behind us, Four Tet's added a NYC date to his tour. The show happens on September 28 at a TBA Brooklyn venue (it's a "new indoor/outdoor Brooklyn waterfront location") with fellow UK producers James Holden and George FitzGerald. It's presented by Verboten and FIXED DJs JDH & Dave P are also on the bill. Tickets for the show are on sale now.
Verboten are also doing another one of these on October 12 with Solomun, Metro Area (live), David August, and Walker & Royce. The flyer for both, and the list of all Four Tet tour dates, are below.
James Holden, who in addition to releasing music also runs the Border Community label, put out his newest album, The Inheritors, earlier this year. It's one of the year's better IDM releases next to Jon Hopkins, Boards of Canada, µ-Ziq, and others. You can stream the single "Renata" below.
George FitzGerald released a new single, "Thinking Of You," earlier this year via Hotflush, and that can be streamed below too.
