As mentioned, Neneh Cherry will release Blank Project, her first solo album in 18 years, next week (2/25) via Smalltown Supersound. Produced by Four Tet, the record is stripped down, raw, and live, letting Cherry's still powerful voice carry most of the weight. Some of it even recall her early years in postpunk bands Rip Rig & Panic and Float Up CP, and Robyn shows up on "Out of the Black" for guest vocals. You can stream the Robyn collaboration and a couple other tracks below, or listen to the whole thing via NPR.

The goal of the Everything is New project is to empower the children of Light of Love Children's Home, many of whom have been rescued from bonded labour, child prostitution, homelessness and abject poverty. The project creates the opportunity for the children to 'star' in the cultural forms they themselves consider most meaningful - popular music and cinema. The Everything is New project has resulted in two albums, both of which are out January 20: Sun Choir, which was composed and recorded by Scottish art-pop band Marram with the kids of Southeast India's Light of Love Children's Home and features guest appearances from Jarvis Cocker, Owen Pallett, Irvine Welsh and more; and BOATS where artists such as Four Tet, Rustie, Dan Deacon, YACHT, Bear in Heaven, Deerhoof's Greg Saunier, Max Tundra, Gang Gang Dance and more took samples of the children and built songs around them.
Proceeds from the project go to the charity Scottish Love in Action which feeds, clothes, houses, educates and provides medical care for over 500 children through the Light of Love Home and School. You can stream Rustie, YACHT, Jarvis Cocker and Four Tet's tracks below.
There's also a 70-minute feature film that's included with physical copies of the Sun Choir album. You can watch a short and a not so short making of videos below...
The xx in Tulum - 12/31/13 (via @hickduarte)
There were tons of New Year's Eve shows here in NYC, as well as around the rest of the country, and down in Mexico, the Young Turks label threw a party on the beach in popular tourist site Tulum (famous, among other things, for its ruins). It literally went all night, kicking off with some of the label's DJs at 8 PM, followed by Sampha, John Talabot, Chairlift, The xx, Grimes, SBTRKT, Koreless, Pional, Four Tet and others playing past 11 AM New Year's Day.
During SBTRKT's set, he revealed an unreleased Jessie Ware collaboration, "Runaway." You can stream that, along with a video featuring clips of multiple sets from the show, and a few more pics, below...

You can stream the title track, along with the LP artwork and tracklist (Robyn features on one song), below.
Four Tet also has some dates coming up, and though a full tour hasn't been announced yet, we know he'll return to NYC for a big show on February 22 at Terminal 5. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (11/22) at noon.

Omar Souleyman - playing BVCMJ, walking around NYC
Syria's Omar Souleyman, now in Europe for more shows, has been keeping busy around the world and in NYC. Most recently he visited the Big Apple for CMJ and to promote his new Kieran Hebden-produced album (out today), and also recently to film parts of his first-ever video, which you can watch along with another set of pictures from the BrooklynVegan CMJ show he played, below...

Omar Souleyman @ Le Poisson Rouge - 10/16/13 (via @linyeezy)
Syrian pop singer Omar Souleyman is in NYC for CMJ for this week, and he just played the NPR showcase at Le Poisson Rouge last night (10/16), which also featured sets from rapper Pusha T, indie pop band Cults, and DJ Ali Shaheed Muhammad (of A Tribe Called Quest). Did you go to the show? How was it? For those who weren't in attendance, NPR streamed the whole thing live, and they'll be hosting an archive of the full show soon, so stay tuned for that.
Omar Souleyman's only other CMJ show is the BrooklynVegan day party on Friday (10/18) (happening a venue to be announced VERY soon) with The Head and the Heart (acoustic), Speedy Ortiz, Yamantaka // Sonic Titan, Hookworms, Eagulls, and Kirin J Callinan. The party runs from noon to 6 PM and Omar's on at 4:15. It's totally FREE (no badge, no RSVP), and we hope to see you there! More info here. Right after CMJ, Omar begins a European tour (Pitchfork Paris included), and all dates on that tour are listed below.
The tour and his CMJ appearances are in support of his new album, Wenu Wenu, which comes out next week (10/22) via Domino affiliate Ribbon Music. The record was produced entirely by electronic wizard Four Tet (who also just dropped his own album), who gives it a sharper edge than some of Omar's earlier work but without changing his sound or Westernizing it. You can stream the full album at NPR.
All dates are listed, along with a stream of the album's title track and a live video, below...
As discussed, Four Tet, who just played NYC with James Holden, is releasing a new album, Beautiful Rewind, this year. The album didn't have a release date announced but apparently that release date is... today! It's out now and you can stream it below...
THOM YORKE plays Barclays Center (with Flea) tonight/Friday with James Holden who then opens for Thom's good friend Four Tet in Williamsburg on Saturday, two days before Thom Yorke's good friend Flying Lotus plays Le Poisson Rouge (where Thom Yorke last played NYC, though Thom will be in Virgina by then).
ARCADE FIRE play Saturday Night Live (with Tina Fey) and a show after SNL Saturday, and then maybe will be around for the premiere of the Spike Jonze movie they soundtracked (along with Karen O) as part of the New York Film Festival, or related events (though "Her" doesn't actually premiere until the end of the film fest which runs through October 13). Superchunk, led by Arcade Fire's Merge Record label boss Mac, are also conveniently in NYC for the weekend.
JACK WHITE is on the lineup of Sunday's "Inside Llewyn Davis" event at Town Hall, another NY Film Fest related event (that Patti Smith, Colin Meloy of The Decemberists, Conor Oberst, Joan Baez, Marcus Mumford, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Punch Brothers, and the Avett Brothers are also playing) (if you miss it, it's being recorded for Showtime).
BONUS: Guy Picciotto (Fugazi), Jim White (Dirty Three), T. Griffin (The Quavers), Efrim Manuel Menuck and Sophie Trudeau (Godspeed You! Black Emperor), Jessica Moss (Thee Silver Mt. Zion), and Mira Billotte (of White Magic) are all at BAM Saturday night, Massive Attack, Horace Andy and Cocteau Twins singer Liz Fraser are at Park Ave Armory for multiple days, John Zorn is having a birthday party with Mike Patton and more, Eugene Mirman is having a comedy festival, Jimmy Cliff is at Webster Hall, and Stevie Wonder, Kings of Leon, Elvis Costello and more are playing in Central Park Saturday.
The possibilities are endless.
Watch the Arcade Fire's SNL teaser video and a teaser for the post-SNL show, below (see if you can decode the clues in Win's shirt to discover the location of Thom, Win and Jack's secret meeting)...
James Holden - 'The Inheritors'

Before the Atoms for Peace/James Holden tour continues, James will open for Thom Yorke collaborator Four Tet at the previously discussed Verboten/FIXED party which happens on Saturday (9/28) at Riverfront Studios (420 Kent Ave), and also includes George FitzGerald. Tickets for that show are still available.
All dates are listed, along with a stream of "Renata," the excellent single from James Holden's new album, The Inheritors, below...

Four Tet at Electric Zoo 2013 (via Piotr Orlov)
Electronic music mastermind Four Tet is currently on an international tour, which just passed through NYC for his set at day 1 (8/30) of Electric Zoo this past weekend (video below), and now that E Zoo is behind us, Four Tet's added a NYC date to his tour. The show happens on September 28 at a TBA Brooklyn venue (it's a "new indoor/outdoor Brooklyn waterfront location") with fellow UK producers James Holden and George FitzGerald. It's presented by Verboten and FIXED DJs JDH & Dave P are also on the bill. Tickets for the show are on sale now.
Verboten are also doing another one of these on October 12 with Solomun, Metro Area (live), David August, and Walker & Royce. The flyer for both, and the list of all Four Tet tour dates, are below.
James Holden, who in addition to releasing music also runs the Border Community label, put out his newest album, The Inheritors, earlier this year. It's one of the year's better IDM releases next to Jon Hopkins, Boards of Canada, µ-Ziq, and others. You can stream the single "Renata" below.
George FitzGerald released a new single, "Thinking Of You," earlier this year via Hotflush, and that can be streamed below too.

Modeselektor at Coachella 2012 (more by David Andrako)
As mentioned, NYC electronic festival Electric Zoo is returning to the recently restored (after Governors Ball damage) Randall's Island from August 30 to September 1. Though much of the lineup is stuff you probably want to stay away from (like Benny Benassi, Tiesto, David Guetta, Steve Aoki, etc), there's also a handful of people worth seeing, including Four Tet, Moderat, Bondax, A-Trak, Diplo, Baauer, AraabMuzik, Skream, Cyril Hahn, RL Grime, Just Blaze, Joy Orbison, and Scuba. Tickets (3-day passes and single day passes) are on sale now. Full lineup at the festival's site.
There have also been a number of official afterparties announced. There's one at Williamsburg's new danceclub hot spot Output each night of the fest. The two biggest standouts are Modeselektor and Rudimental DJing Best Buy Theater on August 31 with Delta Heavy (tickets), and Chicago house vet Cajmere (who also plays Warm Up that weekend) at Cielo on August 30 (tickets).
Moderat (aka Modeselektor and Apparat) finally released their second album, Moderat II, this month, and you can stream the whole thing via a Spotify widget below.
For UK duo Bondax, Electric Zoo and Chicago's North Coast Festival (which a bunch of other Electric Zoo artists also play) are their only two North American gigs at the moment, after they recently cancelled their appearances at Warm Up and Camp Bisco, which they would have played in July. Check out their recent single, "Giving It All," below, or download it above.
The PMR-signed Cyril Hahn will also return to NYC when his tour with Ryan Hemsworth hits 88 Palace on October 5.

Omar Souleyman at Central Park in 2011 (more by David Andrako)
Syrian pop musician Omar Souleyman has been gaining recognition here in America thanks to some compilations/live albums on Sublime Frequencies, the live shows he's been doing here over the last few years, and his association with Bjork. Now he's set to release his first official studio album, Wenu Wenu, on October 22 via Domino affiliate Ribbon Music. The record is being produced entirely by electronic mastermind Four Tet, who is openly a fan. Check out a song from the album in a recent Four Tet mix (around the 1:57:00 mark), the album trailer, and tracklist, below.
Omar Souleyman also has a number of upcoming dates, including a few US shows in August surrounding his appearance at LA's FYF Fest. One of those shows happens in NYC on August 31 at Issue Project Room for the venue's 10th Anniversary party which includes many other great experimental artists. Tickets for that are currently on sale to Issue Members.

Hot Chip at Prospect Park in 2012 (more by Toby Tenenbaum)
Astralwerks Records was founded in NYC in 1993 as a primarily electronic arm of Caronline Records. When they hit it big in the late '90s with Chemical Brothers, Air and Fatboy Slim band, Astralwerks became one of the biggest indie labels in the country. They've since been picked up by Universal Music Group and have expanded into other genres but they do maintain a focus on the electronic. To celebrate their 20th anniversary this year, Astralwerks will release a limited edition box set, Astralwerks: Music in 20/20, on Record Store Day (4/20). The compilation features previously unreleased or rare tracks from Hot Chip, Air, Diamond Rings, Kraftwerk, Kings of Convenience, Doves and others plus previously released tracks by The Chemical Brothers, The Beta Band, Fatboy Slim, Cassius, Basement Jaxx, Royksopp, a Four Tet remix of Sia and more. TOKiMONSTA on SS Coachella 2012 (more by Greg Cristman)
TOKiMONSTA began picking up more speed as an artist on Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder label, and she's now signed with big-time EDM label Ultra (Deadmau5, Kaskade, Bloody Beetroots), who will release her new album, Half Shadows, on April 2. From the sound of the album's two singles, "Go With It" (featuring MNDR) and "The Force" (featuring Kool Keith), she's not changing her sound to fit in with her labelmates (luckily). Instead, she shows us what the LA beat scene sounds like mixed with dream pop on the MNDR collab, and on the one with Kool Keith, she creates an updated vision of the futurism that Keith was doing with Dan the Automator in his Dr. Octagon days. You can stream both songs below.
TOKiMONSTA is playing a few live dates too, including a record release show for Half Shadows with "very special guests" in NYC on April 9 at Music Hall of Williamsburg. Tickets for that show go on sale today (3/21) at noon. All dates are listed below.
TOKiMONSTA also just offered a remix of Justin Timberlake's "Suit & Tie" off his new album, The 20/20 Experience, which is out now. This remix follows the one Four Tet did earlier this month, though unlike Four Tet's, TOKiMONSTA's was not officially approved by JT's label. You can stream both of those remixes below.
Justin also recently released the video for "Mirrors," which you can watch below too. And in more related news, The Hollywood Reporter reports that he confirmed that a sequel to The 20/20 Experience (the "second half" of the album) is on its way. His tour with Jay-Z hits NYC on July 19 and 20 at Yankee Stadium and tickets for both nights are still available.
All TOKiMONSTA tour dates are listed, along with all streams and videos, below...

DOWNLOAD: Joy Orbison - "Big Room Tech House Dj Tool - TIP!" (MP3)
UK producer Joy Orbison (aka Peter O'Grady) hasn't been to the US in about two years and he recently announced that he'll be going on a short North American tour this February. That tour brings him to NYC for a Blkmarket-presented Nonplus+ Records showcase at a TBA Brooklyn location on February 15. Tickets for that show are on sale now. Joy Orbison will be playing with Nonplus+ head Boddika, and the bill also features Joey Anderson and Blkmarket DJs Taimur & Fahad.
The show doubles as an album release party for Think and Change, an upcoming compilation from NonPlus+ which is due out on February 25. The compilation features a deep house track from Boddika and Joy Orbison ("&Fate") and a wobbly cut from Joy Orbison solo ("Big Room Tech House Dj Tool - TIP!"), both of which you can stream below, and the latter of which you can download above. It also features tracks by Four Tet, Pearson Sound, Martyn, Instra:mental, and more. The full tracklist is below.
Joy Orbison's tour dates also include a London show on the European tour that Mister Saturday Night (Justin Carter and Eamon Harkin's NYC dance party) is going on in February. Mister Saturday Night also has a ton of local events in NYC coming up, including one with FaltyDL.
Speaking of Blkmarket shows at TBA NYC locations, Russian singer/producer Nina Kraviz, who we highlighted last year and who will be featured on the new Brandt Brauer Frick album, is playing one on January 26 with Cem & Rg, Talmur & Fahad, and more guests TBA. Tickets for that one are on sale now. It's the day after the previously discussed Blkmarket-presented Ellen Allien show (tickets).

Pitchfork just posted their Honorable Mention Albums of 2012, which they consider "20 records didn't make [their] Top 50 but they're not necessarily just Nos. 51-70." There are some similarities to their Overlooked Records of 2012 list that they posted halfway through the year. It also includes Frankie Rose's Interstellar, which did actually get Best New Music upon its release, unlike the other albums here. And it's got Waxahatchee's American Weekend and Jeremih's Late Nights with Jeremih, neither of which were reviewed throughout the year. Though they did review Waxhatachee (Katie Crutchfield)'s sister Allison's band Swearin', who also makes this list, and who (along with Jeremih) made Pitchfork's Top 100 Tracks list.

Pitchfork just posted their much anticipated list of the top 100 tracks of 2012. The #1 slot went to... Grimes! Whether you thought the whole of her album Visions was good or not, it was hard to deny the charms of "Oblivion." (Having that great video didn't hurt either.) Do you think it deserved to top the list? If not then what song should've?
You can check out P4K's entire hot 100 of 2012 below.
