Fuck The Facts want you to Die Miserable. After previewing songs from the aforementioned LP at Public Assembly with From Ashes Rise last month, the fearsome Canadian five-some are prepping to release said rager on their label home Relapse on October 11th. Preorder it now in multiple different configurations.
By the laws of geometry, if you take four left turns you will eventually end up where you started, and the more you take, the more you'll tread on already well-worn paths. Die Miserable is chock full of left turns and definitely sounds like a Fuck The Facts release but like no record prior; it's their unwavering eclectism that has enabled this Canadian band to always keep it interesting. Check out two tracks of grindy-death-groovy-thrash-crust-core from Die Miserable below, including the album opener "Drift" which makes its debut here.
All tour dates and song streams are below.

From Ashes Rise

From Ashes Rise returned to NYC on Monday night (8/15), their first NYC date since their reunion and since playing BB King's in 2005 with Subhumans and Leftover Crack. The show was one of three East Coast dates (two were in Philly with one as part of 'This is Hardcore'). The band plays Power Of The Riff in Seattle on 8/20.
I was fortunate enough to catch From Ashes Rise in their first go around, and Monday was probably my favorite performance by the Portland band. Taut, focused and fantastic, the crusty neg-hardcore band played favorites from Nightmares and beyond, including new material. No word on when/where that will surface, but keep your fingers crossed.
Support at Public Assembly came from a diverse cast that included Canadian thrash/grind favorites Fuck The Facts, surf-punks Night Birds, and brutal hardcore from Full of Hell. Fuck The Facts is always impressive live, with Monday's focus being on their upcoming LP Die Miserable with some stops to deliver older material like "Wake". Night Birds musically falls in the groove between Dead Kennedys, Adolescents and Agent Orange, and their live show is similarly energetic. Full of Hell may not be old enough to drink, but the band definitely knows how to rage; negative, fierce hardcore with black metal, powerviolence, and grind touches. Look for their new record on A389 soon.

Fuck The Facts will now join Night Birds (who have a new LP) and Full of Hell at the previous discussed From Ashes Rise show on August 15th at Public Assembly! The show will be Fuck The Facts first since completing their new LP, Die Miserable, due on Relapse this fall. Details are forthcoming.
Meanwhile, Full of Hell are also preparing an LP of their own, Roots Of Earth Are Consuming My Home. The long-player, the band's first, will be released via A389 Records and features "Endless Drone" which is available for download above/streaming below. Look for it in mid-August.

After a set in Pomona at Scion Rock Fest 2011, Fuck The Facts headed east for a short tour that ended at Cake Shop on Saturday. Celebrating their 10th anniversary, the Canadian band's material they showcased at the Manhattan show was spread across all of their output, touching on burners like "The Sound of Your Smashed Head" from Sigmata Hi-Five, to "Wake" from the band's latest Unnamed EP.
Psychic Limb directly supported FTF, and in speaking with the band following their set I found that the band played all of a forthcoming LP (!) in order. PL hopes to have the new LP up and out by their appearance supporting Unbroken at a sold-out Santos. We'll keep you up to date.
Radiation Blackbody is 2/3 (Josh/Joel) of Defeatist, and their uber-complex hardcore-meets-tech was fascinating and offered a good counterpoint to the late 90s post-hardcore stylings of Swords of Chaos from Iceland who were also on the bill. Josh of Radiation Blackbody/Defeatist is also the bassist for Castevet, who will play the BrooklynVegan/ProfoundLore show at Lovejoys in Austin on 3/19 followed by the Profound Lore official showcase at Valhalla later that night.

Morbid Angel

Two outdoor tents, a club, and a theater hosted 26 bands. Perhaps by design, the premises lacked alcohol (except for the theater). So bad behavior was scarce. Fans happily bounced from venue to venue, queuing for some bands (Wormrot, Floor, Atheist, Obituary, Morbid Angel), and eating burgers from the Grill 'Em All trucks. To order the Witte Burger (beef, bun, cream cheese, deep-fried bacon, beer-and-Sriracha-soaked onions, malt vinegar aioli), my friend Robert merely pointed several feet away, where Dave Witte himself was standing.Saturday (3/5) was the left coast's turn for Scion Rock Fest 2011. The one day, multiple venue festival relocated to Pomona, CA this year, and housed legendary names like Morbid Angel, Obituary, Integrity, Agalloch, and many more alongside names of tomorrow and underground favorites like Bastard Noise, Anaal Nathrakh, Floor, Wormrot, and many more.
-[Invisible Oranges]
Kvelertak were supposed to play too. but their passports and visas were stolen at the airport moments before they boarded the plane to the US. As a result, they'll also miss some days of the Weedeater/Zoroaster tour, but should "be in the states by Friday" (3/11). That means they should have no trouble making it to SXSW where they're on board to play Full Metal Texas. The band was replaced in Pomona by Black Cobra.

Fuck The Facts at Cake Shop (more by BBG)

Fuck The Facts will return to Cake Shop on March 12th as part of a special round of new dates:
We've put together a special set for these shows that will have us playing songs from every album since 2001's 'Mullet Fever' all the way to new music from our upcoming 'Die Miserable' album, and all in chronological order from oldest to newest. Many of these songs we haven't played live in years and most likely won't after this, so we hope you'll enjoy this little blast into the past.Expect the nasty little canucks to fuck shit up at Cake Shop. Can't wait for Die Miserable.
Supporting the incredible FTF will be the always unfucwitable hard-grinders Psychic Limb, Radiation Blackbody (Joel/Josh of Defeatist), and Icelandic hardcore/screamo Swords of Chaos (mems of Jonsi's band, seriously).
Fuck The Facts have taken some time off as of late but many of the members have kept busy with other projects. Johnny Ibay recently played with Haymaker at the A389 Anniversary. Marc Bourgon teamed up with Steve Vargas of The Great Sabatini to record a new side project Greber. It's a little bit more in the hardcore vein (but still rules), and you can stream all of that EP below, and then pick up a copy and/or a t-shirt at their merch site.
Speaking of Joel from Defeatist, he'll debut his new band Praetura at Acheron on 2/5. The show will also feature The Osedax (ex-Psyopus), Backslider, and Misanthropic Noise. Defeatist will also play 5/22 at The Charleston with Internal Rot and Doubled Over.
Retro Grave (with Jeff Olson, ex-Trouble) will headline The Studio at Webster Hall on 4/23 and snag both Gnaw (who is also playing with Locrian) and Kayo Dot for support. The show is one of two scheduled for Kayo Dot, as they'll also play Bowery Electric on 3/25 with Vaura & Throat

Yob at Scion Rock Fest 2010 (more)

Scion has confirmed exclusively to LA Weekly that they will be bringing their metaltastic Rock Fest this year to Southern California.Rumors circulated right around the announcement of Scion Rock Fest 2010 that Morbid Angel would play that year's show. Glad to hear that those were (somewhat) true. Hopefully Morbid Angel schedule some shows outside of California too."Scion's major event of the year," confirms their publicist, "is a huge metal festival with four stages and 30 bands. We did the first in Atlanta and the second in Columbus [check out part one and and two of our pics & review]. It's always a mix of legendary bands, important bands and up-and-coming bands, representing all the areas of underground metal. And like all the stuff we do it's all ages and free."
"What no one knows yet," he continues "is the next one will be on March 5, 2011 in Pomona. We're taking over the Fox Theater and the Glass House and building two more stages nearby."
Headlining the Scion Rock Fest in the LA area will be death metal royalty Morbid Angel with their first US show in six years (and as of now, the only scheduled US date in 2011)
...Founding member guitarist Trey Azagthoth, regarded by many as the greatest death metal guitarist of all time, will be at the helm along with bassist David Vincent (member 1986-1996 & 2004 - present) and Destructhor (member since 2008).
The Scion Rock Fest will include 26 bands on four stages (including The Fox Theater, The Glass House and two outdoor stages). -[LA Weekly]
One of the bigger names at Scion Rock Fest in 2010 was Shrinebuilder. Don't forget that half of Shrinebuilder, Scott Kelly and Wino, are going on a solo tour in February. Tickets are still on sale for the February 12th Mercury Lounge show which now looks like this:
Scott Kelly (of Neurosis) 11:30You can also catch all of Liturgy (who played Scion Rock Fest 2010) on January 14th At Silent Barn with Controlled Bleeding, Cellular Chaos, PAK, and Diablo, January 27th at Union Pool with Naam, Yr Youth, and Arms, February 10th at Glasslands with Extra Life, Lichens, and Chaos Majik, and February 25th At Monster Island Basement with Talk Normal and Nat Baldwin. More local metal shows are listed in the latest edition of Evillive.
Wino (of Saint Vitus) 10:30
Man's Gin (of Cobalt) 9:30
Hunter Hunt-Henrix (of Liturgy) 8:30
The PRP is also reporting a rumored list of other artists playing Scion Rock Fest 2011. I can confirm that at least half of a dozen of those are true. That list is reprinted below...

Mel has a few choice words with the audience

Summertime is the perfect time of year to crawl into a dingy, poorly-ventilated basement, shove up against a couple dozen long-haired dudes, and take in the aural splendor of a down'n'dirty grindcore show. Spend too much money on beer (or sneak in some forties), forget your earplugs, scream along, then leave slightly sore and soaked in a sure-to-be-unhealthy amount of other peoples' sweat. At least, that's what the fine folks of 1000 Knives and Brooklyn Vegan thought when they summoned up this unholy lineup and unleashed it upon the Lower East Side on Saturday (Aug 7th).
Hometown hellraisers Atakke stormed the stage with a characteristically furious thrash/death assault, battling through some slight technical difficulties and bringing the mosh, hard.
I've somehow never seen Defeatist before, but am kicking myself for not making a point of doing so earlier. They absolutely slayed, dealing out raw, chaotic grindcore interlaced with shards of noise and broken glass, seething with hate, and buried by grime and crust. Do not miss their next show (w/ Black Army Jacket at the Cake Shop on Sept. 4th).
Magrudergrind were on their grind as usual, busting out a short'n'nasty collection of up-tempo, bottom-heavy punk rock beatdowns. Their music is a thrashing crusty filthy mess, and god do kids love it - the entire venue erupted into chaos upon every manic exhortation and wicked bass drop. Killer.
Fuck The Facts are a strange, unruly collective, and a force to be reckoned with in a live setting. As the crowd collectively lost its shit, the Canadian quartet sweated through a head-spinning set of twisted, off-kilter grind. Frontwoman Mel Mongeon stalked the stage like a caged lion, guttural roars and all. She also showed herself to be much cleverer than the average metalhead, as her summery ensemble of tank top and paisley skirt was undoubtedly a sight more comfortable than the filthy black t-shirts and jeans the rest of us were stewing in. The sound at the Cake Shop did the band plenty of justice, and Fuck The Facts played just long enough to drive their point home. Fucking rad.

Magrudergrind supporting Verbal Abuse (more by Keith Marlowe)

With all of the BrooklynVegan-related shows on the horizon, it can be hard to keep up. That said, we have some recent additions to some of our upcoming heavy music bills to report.
Atakke has been added to the upcoming Fuck The Facts / Magrudergrind / Defeatist destruction campaign THIS SATURDAY (8/7) at Cake Shop. Atakke recently roughed up the audience at Acheron supporting The Body. Fuck The Facts will have a new cassette entitled Live In Whitby available at the show, with the remainder showing up online after the tour. Get a copy and download one and pay-what-you-want.
Fresh off of wowing the crowd at Black Cobra, East of The Wall will support KEN Mode and Castevet at Acheron on August 17th.
Tombs have been added to the upcoming Black Army Jacket reunion at Cake Shop on Sept 4th. The show is just two weeks after the band plays Death By Audio on 8/22 with Planks.
And a reminder, Unsane/Keelhaul/Pigs/Disappearer take on Santos TONIGHT (8/5) (tickets) and Pollution, Megasus, The Love Below, and Judas destroy Acheron on August 13th at 8PM. Interested in seeing Unsane, Fuck The Facts, KEN Mode, or Pollution? I have two pairs of tickets available for EACH. Info on how to win, Pollution flyer, and some video is down below...

Fuck The Facts at Public Assembly (more by Justina Villanueva)

What's summer in NYC with out a brutal, sweaty matinee? BrooklynVegan and 1000Knives are happy to do our part by announcing that Fuck The Facts will play Cake Shop on August 7th (a saturday) with special guests Magrudergrind, Defeatist. The show is all ages.
Fuck The Facts recently released a digital only EP, available NOW for free download.
To help celebrate St. Jean Baptiste This year, we offer a compilation specially concocted for the occasion, free download. This comp includes all the French songs of Fuck the Facts.Shouts to the Google-bots for the rad translation. (Je ne parle pas francais bien)
Warning, this download will only be available on 23 and 24 June
The band also recently dropped the Disgorge Mexico DVD, the incredible Unnamed EP, and most recently dropped the "Wake" video from that EP. Pick up that limited DVD and limited EP via the band.

Fuck The Facts 2009 (Topon Das on far right)

Fuck The Facts practice artisanal brutality. Not only do the Canadian grinders jackhammer the listener with fierce and unrelenting precision, they do it in their own abstract and punishing way. With Disgorge: Mexico a year and change in the rearview and Maryland Deathfest in the approaching distance, Fuck the Facts have prepared a new testament to pound into your cranium with Unnamed EP, a new vinyl/digital only release on presale NOW via the band. This self-released EP features a pair of re-recorded tracks (including "La Tete hors de L'eau" available above) and as well as some new joints compacted into an endlessly repeatable 11-minutes. Highly recommended!
With this awesome release on deck, I threw some questions at Topon Das of Fuck The Facts to discuss the EP, an upcoming LP, and the Disgorge Mexico MOVIE by David Hall....

Consider this the "Swedish Death Metal" edition as we'll focus on a few bands that have taken cues from the great sounds of Entombed, Dismember, Grave, and so many others. As such, lets start off with Fatalist! Though they hail from the land of sun and surf (California), Fatalist have nailed the tone of early (Stockholm) Swedish Death Metal sound, putting their own spin in their songwriting. Featuring ex members of Exhumed, Fatalist's debut album The Depths of Inhumanity is out on 11/23 via Ibex Moon and for a taste of the killer riffs that the band has cooked up, dig on "Internal Misery" above.
Lets get it out of the way, Nirvana 2002 is not a boxset from a certain Seattle band. In fact, Nirvana 2002 is the name of a lost Swedish Death Metal band who will finally release their full recorded output via Relapse Records, Recordings 89 - 91. The band that featured vocalist/guitarist Orvar Säfström (ex-Entombed) have released the "Mourning (Projections of a Stained Mind)" MP3, available for download above after it recently premiered on Decibel. If you love the sickening Swedish Death Metal buzzsaw sound, these long lost tracks are a welcome surprise. Orvar Säfström recently discussed his top 6 favorite Swedish Death Metal albums.
Much like Fatalist, Gravehill is also a sickening early death metal worship act from California. Gravehill's Rites Of The Pentagram LP is out NOW via Enucleation and the title track is available for download above. The band recently played the NJ Death Fest along with Acheron, who are releasing their latest LP and first in six years, The Final Conflict: Last Days Of God, on Ibex Moon.
Mala Suerte doom away on their latest crusty, dimly lit LP, The Shadow Tradition, available via Hellride Music. Download a pair of tracks from that Austin band's LP above. Mala Suerte have been around since the 90s and released a few LPs of their filthy Grief-like psychotic doom as well as a split with Japan's Coffins.
A Mala Suerte video for "Non Servium", Coalesce, Ghast, Eyehategod, Fuck The Facts, Zoroaster, Graveyard, thoughts on the new Slayer, and more as TWIM continues...

Laudanum, who released the stunning Sacred Death split with Stormcrow earlier in the year, has released The Coronation on 20 Buck Spin. Featuring members of the much revered Graves At Sea as well as Pig Heart Transplant, The Coronation is a downtuned massive slab of doom interrupted by ominous dark ambient passages. Pick up The Coronation NOW at 20 Buck Spin and dig on one of those tracks, "Invoke", above.
Speaking of Stormcrow, that band along with Converge, Malevolent Creation, Naglfar, Wolbrigade, Deceased, Rompeprop, Gorod, and Nazxul have all been added to the Maryland Deathfest 2010 lineup!
A BIG FAT congratulations goes out to Salome who have signed to Profound Lore! If you missed it, Salome are hitting the road with Batillus and Hull.
French shoegazey black-metaller Alcest is preparing a new album which will contain six tracks, four new and two of which will be re-recorded from the Le Secret EP. Alcest, aka Neige also of Amesouers and Pest Noire fame, will employ Winterhalter (also Peste Noire, et al) to handle drum duties on the release, which should appear in January of 2010. Alcest's last LP was the critically acclaimed Souvenirs D'un Autre Monde
Who likes Dio? Who likes Black Sabbath? Who likes 'em both TOGETHER? I have one pair of tickets to see Heaven & Hell with Coheed & Cambria at the WaMu Theater @ MSG on August 25th! Details on how to win are at the bottom of this post.
In case you missed it, Shrinebuilder are coming to NYC!
Pennsylvania band Mother of Mercy, who features members of the great Blacklisted, recently dropped their killer album III via Six Feet Under Records. This is one seriously pissed off hardcore record... highly recommended! One track, "Divide", is streaming here but you can also download "Back To The Agony" above!
Rot In Hell's 2006-2008 discography, Hallways of The Always, is out NOW via A389 Recordings (vinyl) and Grot Records (CD). The UK band follows a similar path as Integrity and Ringworm... a sick/bleak metallic hardcore, and this LP is a must have for Holy Terror fans before they drop their debut LP on Deathwish! Download a song from Hallways of The Always, "Black Omega", above.
Prepare for another Aaron Turner (Isis) supergroup... Jodis featuring James Plotkin and Tim Wyskida of Khanate! Their debut LP, Secret House, will be released via Hydra Head on 10/27.
Lately, I have been giving the new Infernal Stronghold LP alot of burn. The project, which shares a drummer with the black metal monsters in Woe, treads an old school black metal-punk aesthetic and is one of those bands that can usually be seen at an ABC No Rio matinee. And that's where you can see them on October 3, when the band lands in NYC supporting Cannabis Corpse at one of two shows that day, at the Charleston and ABC No Rio (matinee). Infernal Stronghold's new LP Godless Noise is out NOW via Forcefield Records. Check out a pair of tracks, "Curb the Trend" and "Destruction of Life...Unworthy of Life!", available for download above!
Javelina is currently streaming "Black Blizzard" from their upcoming monster Beasts Among Us, the tracklisting of which is below!
If you have been to a single underground metal or punk show in NYC, chances are you have seen Tournament (though I missed their set at Union Pool on Sunday night). The band's Swordswallower EP was a fave, but now they have a NEW baby, Years Old, out NOW via Forcefield Records. Check out "Something Temporary" available for download above and check out the band at either the Chronic Youth Launch party with Cannabis Corpse on 8/21 or at the recently added Dark Castle show on 9/13 at The Charleston. Flyer is below.

Fuck The Facts

In their second Brooklyn show in as many months and their second show in two cities in one day, Anal Cunt headlined the Show No Mercy event at Public Assembly on July 5th after playing an earlier set at the Hostile City Death Fest in Philly (a two day festival that started on the 4th).
Public Assembly was a highly eclectic affair. Seth Putnam and his band of antisocial fuck-ups were teamed up with the punishing grind assault of Fuck The Facts, prog-leaning stylings of Gwynbleidd, ambient nightmares brought on by Locrian, and the silly yet brutal deathgrind of Copremesis (seriously silly... Copremesis even did a techno "performance" complete with glowsticks)!
Fuck the Facts also played Hostile City Deathfest too, but on on July 4th. Our friends at Invisible Oranges were there:
Canada's Fuck the Facts are seasoned veterans, and it showed. Vocalist Mel Mongeon evokes Henry Rollins' warrior poses. She constantly coils and uncoils, bounding up on monitors, crouching down low, shrieking, growling, spitting. Her eye contact is not rehearsed. She is fully "in" her performance, and if she stares daggers through you, it is incidental and fleeting... Her band's grindcore meshes Godfleshian harmonics and tectonic sludge with punishing blastbeats.Next up FTF will tour for a couple weeks at the tail end of July leading up to Central Illinois Metalfest (Anal Cunt is there too) and a few scattered dates before and after.
The next edition of Show No Mercy will take place Public Assembly on August 2nd.
All FTF, Locrian(with The Human Quena Orchestra), and AxCx dates, and the rest of the July Show No Mercy pictures, are below....

Seth Putnam of AxCx at his most thoughful (more by Justina Villanueva)

June's Show No Mercy event is this Sunday (6/7), and we already have another event to look forward to after that! Eclectic is the name of the game as Anal Cunt (who recently played Europa) will team up with grinders Fuck The Facts, Locrian, Gwynbleidd, and Copremesis for a July 5th show at Public Assembly. Until then, Salome awaits on June 7th with Black Anvil, Woe, and Snake Sustaine (mems-A Life Once Lost).
Want to go Sunday? I have two pairs of tickets to give away. Email us at BVCONTESTS@HOTMAIL.COM with a subject line of "SALOME", and include your first and last name. Two winners will be selected at random and notified the afternoon of June 5th.
Fuck The Facts recently announced the vinyl release of Disgorge Mexico via Stillborn Records on June 9th. The limited edition pressing will have 500 total copies, with 400 on white and 100 on black vinyl. Preorder that here.
Locrian has been busy since the beginning of 2009, dropping Drenched Lands earlier this year on At War With False Noise, and more recently, the Land of Decay VHS + 3" CD available here. 2009 will also see the releases of the Drenched Lands LP (via BloodLust) and a split 7" w/ Harpoon on Hewhocorrupts Inc. Show No Mercy is not their only upcoming NYC-area show either. They've added another on July 3rd at Lucky Cheng's. All dates below.
Copremesis, who describe themselves as "NS Death/Grind performed by minorities to hail the ARYAN RACE!!!", recently released the lilting ode to transexual perversion Muay Thai Ladyboys and are now offering all of their other releases for gratis download.
Rosetta recently played a Show No Mercy show, and will be in NYC once again on June 5th at Death By Audio.

Kill the Client

Let's kick this thing off the RIGHT way, an absolutely BRUTAL grind record out NOW on Willowtip.... no, not the new Phobia (though that is good, and out NOW) or the new Maruta (also out NOW)... it's Cleptocracy by unstoppable force known as Kill The Client! Blazing through eighteen tracks of searing grindcore, Cleptocracy is both destructive and engaging.... Check out "Cleptocracy and "Divide And Conquer" downloadable above!
* The above Deathwish sampler features songs by Trap Them, Blacklisted, Cold World, Narrows, 108, United Nations, The Hope Conspiracy, Victims, Rot In Hell and many others.
Graf Orlock have announced details of their upcoming cinemagrind monstrosity, Destination Time Today, along with a new track streaming at their myspace! Look for the record to land on Level Plane (Date TBD) possibly around the time that Graf Orlock hits the East Coast for a tour that is (not fully) scheduled for Jan 2009! Check out the basic itinerary below, and hold tight for details to come.
Mastodon have anounced details for Crack The Skye, their upcoming album due in 2009! As discussed, Brendan O'Brien will be on the boards for the seven track (listing below), fifty minute opus which was was recorded at Southern Tracks Studios in Atlanta. Meanwhile, the band has announced a handful of European dates with Metallica (find 'em below).
The sickening crusty hardcore of Planks are one my my latest obsessions, and their limited 12" (500 copies) is out NOW on Narshardaa. Pick it up here and check out "Deluge" from that LP, which the band has made available for download above and scoot on over to Aversionline, who has a second track for download! Also out now on Black Box, a split LP that Planks rocked with Tombs... a taste of which is above in the form of "A Sunken City". Speaking of Tombs, the band permenantly added Andrew Hernandez (ex-ASRA badass) on drums, and I must say that he absolutely KILLED it when I saw them lay waste to the Relapse showcase during CMJ.
Black Elk's Always A Six Never A Nine is available NOW over at Crucial Blast. Check out THREE songs from the record available for download above!
Cattle Decapitation have posted a new song from and announced a date for (Jan 20th, 2009- INAUGURATION DAY!) their new album, The Harvest Floor! Produced by Billy Anderson, The Harvest Floor will include contributions by Ross Sewage (Impaled/Ludicra), Dino Sommese (Dystopia/Asunder), Jarboe (Swans), Jackie Perez Gratz (Grayceon/Amber Asylum), and John Wiese. Enslaved's Vertebrae

Enslaved announced domestic details of their new album "Vertebrae"..... it's due October 28th at their new home, Nuclear Blast! As previously reported, the band is ready to pounce on Europe with Stonegard & Krakow in tow. This graphic seems, unfortunately, rather appropriate.

Cursed are through. From their blog:
"Yeah, you heard.... We got robbed at the very end of tour in a totally unreal, extremely sketchy series of events that still makes no sense at all, only leads to paranoia, anger and a total loss of faith. Passports, money, all the costs of the tour. Either way, whoever did it, it was a bullet in the head, the end of the line.... Minus a few fucked up shows, it was probably the best tour we ever had. Thanks everyone for your good wishes. I'll elaborate when I'm home next week, for now - yes it's true, and yes it's over."Read the whole thing here.
Mastodon are set to enter the studio to begin recording their follow-up to their critical and commercially successful Blood Mountain. Matt Bayles will NOT be on the boards for this one, as the band has opted for megaproducer Brendan O'Brien (Bruce Springsteen, RATM, -gulp-Korn-gulp-) to record their Czarist Russia-themed LP.
Vice's "Heavy Metal In Baghdad", a documentary on essentially the only heavy metal band in the war-torn region, hits theaters on a limited run in NY and LA on May 23rd (@ the Clearview on Broadway at 62nd, get your tickets here), followed by a DVD release (with requisite bonus features) on June 10th. This digitally-shot indie, about a band called Acrassicauda trying to survive in the warzone known as "liberated" Iraq, is as much about the power of music as it is survival in modern day Baghdad. Check out the trailer here, and the myspace for Acrassicauda.
So now that Wolves In The Throne Room (sigh) is officially off the bus of the Boris/Torche lovefest, how do you fill those mighty shoes? Replacements have been announced and depending on where you live, you'll either get the mighty Nachtmystium (who have Assassins out June 10th) or Clouds (featuring ex-Cave-In dude Adam McGrath). Clouds, who are promoting their own record, We Are Above You due June 17th, are on board for the Webster Hall show (tickets are still on sale).
Speaking of ex-Cave-In, Stephen Brodsky is performing a free show at Generation Records on Sunday May 25th at 7pm.
