Gatecreeper announce new album 'Dark Superstition,' share "The Black Curtain"

Gatecreeper have finally, officially announced their new album, Dark Superstition, due May 17 via Nuclear Blast (pre-order). “Many of the songs incorporate supernatural ideas with my own experiences,” says band leader Chase Mason, “but the title itself is a reference to the Superstition Mountains in our home state of Arizona. It’s a beautiful mountain range surrounded by tragedy and legends of hidden fortune.”

The album was made with assistance from Fred Etsby of Swedish death metal legends Dismember, and engineered and mixed by Converge’s Kurt Ballou, and Chase has said that Swedish death metal was an influence on this album. You could hear some of that coming through in recent single “Caught in the Treads,” and even more so on the gothy, strangely catchy “The Black Curtain,” which mixes death metal with more of a straight-up rock approach, in sort of a Tribulation kind of way.

“It’s about being trapped between living and dying,” Chase says of the new song. “A soul trapped in purgatory begging to be brought back by a supernatural force.” Listen and check out its Max Moore-directed video below.

Gatecreeper are gearing up to support another veteran Swedish death metal band on tour, In Flames, alongside Creeping Death. That tour hits Brooklyn’s Warsaw on May 3. All dates are listed below.
