There is soul in the music of Georgia Anne Muldrow and Dudley Perkins that is missing from a lot of modern music. The band fuses booming beats from the J.Dilla/Madlib school of bump into their R&B, producing gems like "Pop Stopper," the band's first single off of their forthcoming LP The Lighthouse. Check out a video for said track below and preorder yours at Bandcamp.
G&D, are preparing to celebrate the album in style too, employing a pair of precision strikes on the US around its release. Look for the band to hit The Low End Theory on May 22 in Los Angeles with King Britt and Brooklyn Bowl on May 21 (the album release day) with DJ Romes (Lootpack). Tickets for the latter are on sale now.

Cali rapper Blu was supposed to release NoYork! through Warner back in 2011 but he was dropped from the label and "unofficial" releases began circling the web instead. Now he's finally set to give the album a proper birth on March 26 of this year. NoYork! is helmed by an all-star cast of producers -- Flying Lotus, Madlib, Daedelus, Samiyam, Exile, Knxwledge, Shafiq Husayn, and Dibia$e -- and features a ton of great guest spots as well -- Edan, U-God (Wu-Tang), Pac Div, J*Davey, Tiron & Ayomari, and more. You can pre-order the album at Nature Sounds (which comes with an immediate free download) and stream some of its tracks below.
Blu and Madlib also teamed up with MED for another collaborative release, The Burgundy EP, which came out today (2/19) and can be purchased at the Stones Throw Webstore. Each track is produced by Madlib, except "This Is Your Life," which was done by Madlib collaborator Georgia Anne Muldrow. You can stream the opening track "Burgundy Whip" below.
Blu will also be going on a short tour this April with Tiron & Ayomari (who appear on NoYork!), as Potholes In My Blog reports. The tour kicks off in NYC on April 10 at Public Assembly. No advance tickets for this show yet, but you can check ticketweb for updates.

As mentioned, Animal Collective are playing two nights at Terminal 5 (12/4-5) to make up for their cancelled Williamsburg Park show. The first night (12/4) is with Traxman, and no opener has been announced yet for the second night. Tickets for both shows are still available and a portion of the proceeds will go to The American Red Cross to help Hurricane Sandy relief.
Like Amanda Palmer, Animal Collective just spoke to us about their top 10 things of 2012, some of which were albums, like the one by their tourmates Micachu & The Shapes and the new Madlib-produced Georgia Anne Muldrow album, whereas other things on the list were restaurants they had memorable dinners at and British sketch comedy shows. You can check out the whole thing below.
Jazz/hip hop/soul/etc artist Robert Glasper released the impressive Black Radio LP earlier this year and he'll follow that with an EP of remixes from the album, Black Radio Recovered - The Remix EP, this Tuesday (10/9) via Blue Note Records. The EP features remixes by 9th Wonder, Pete Rock, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Questlove, and one by Robert Glasper himself, along with Jewels. Starting this week, he's been revealing the remixes at his facebook and twitter as they premiere around the web.
Okayplayer has the 9th Wonder (featuring Phonte) remix of "Afro Blue" (ft. Erykah Badu), Complex has Pete Rock remix of "Black Radio" (ft. Yasiin Bey fka Mos Def), and Afropunk just posted the Georgia Anne Muldrow remix of "The Consequences of Jealousy." You can stream all three of those remixes below and stay tuned for the rest.
Robert Glasper is also on tour now and he'll hit NYC this month for a CMJ show, which happens on October 16 at SOB's. Tickets for that show are on sale now. He'll also return to NYC a couple months later to play Harlem Stage on December 13 and 14. He'll do two shows each night (one at 7:30 and one at 10:00). Tickets for all four of those shows are on sale now.
Speaking of 9th Wonder, he plays a Rapsody party at SOB's TONIGHT (10/3) with Josh Baze, Peter Rose, and host Peter Rosenberg (of Hot 97). Tickets for tonight's show are available.
A list of all dates and those remix streams are below.
Willis Earl Beal at Bowery Ballroom in April (more by Toby Tenenbaum)
The Weeksville Garden Party, a series of free shows in Weeksville Heritage Center which happen every Saturday in July, has been expanded. You already knew that Spoek Mathambo (who played LPR last night) will be playing the one this Saturday (7/14), and since we last spoke the lineup for that show has been expanded. It also includes FlyLo associate/bass wizard Thundercat and R&B singer Georga Anne Muldrow, whose new Madlib-produced LP is one of the best of its genre right now. Georgia Anne will be performing with special guest Dudley Perkins, who she recently toured with. Doors for Saturday's show are at 4 PM.
Then, on July 21, The Weeksville Heritage Center will be graced by Willis Earl Beal, who has yet to reschedule that free show with Bobby Womack but this one should tide us over until then. The show is also with Krystie Warren. No show has been announced as of this post for Saturday, July 28.
Speaking of that Bobby Womack show, if you missed it, just when it looked like things were getting better and Bobby was going to play a MHOW show on July 3, he ended up canceling that one too. Hopefully Bobby will get well soon and finally make his way back to NYC. Check out this recent interview he did with NPR where he spoke about what's been going on:
"Before me, there was a higher and stronger supreme being that put me in the position to have that talent," he adds. "I've seen [drugs] take away my friends, from Wilson Pickett to James Brown to Michael Jackson, and I can just go on naming. I say, if I'm still here, God must still have a purpose for me."The current Weeksville Garden Party schedule is below...
Georgia Anne Muldrow and Dudley Perkins (aka Declaime) hit the road tomorrow for a string of tour dates with DJ Romes (Lootpack) that will carry them along the Northeast of the US and into Canada. The real-life couple will be performing some of their Madlib-produced jams at select cities for the next six days, including on March 26th at SOB's. Tickets for the NYC show are on sale.
Georgia Anne Muldrow's new-and-entirely-Madlib-produced LP Seeds is a record that definitely sounds like a throwback to the early 70s by toiling in the epic string-laden soul from the era. I was a fan of their previous output where GAM handled a bunch of the instrumentation; these tracks produced by Madlib are impressive too, but in a much different light. You can listen to some songs, including the title track in video form (also available on 7"), along with a few other tracks including a bunch of 2pac remixes, with their tour dates below.

the happy (& prolific) couple: Georgia Anne Muldrow & Dudley Perkins with their son
You may know Dudley Perkins by his nom de guerre, Declaime. The Madlib collaborator has released quite a few LPs under both of his pseudonyms as well as with Georgia Anne Muldrow aka Patti Blingh. The duo crafts some serious California FONK, and will unleash said booty-shakers upon SOB's in NYC on Feb 28th and at Fat Beats for an in-store earlier that day. Tickets are on sale for SOBs. The pair recently dropped the vinyl/iTunes only Heaven or Hell and will release the SomeOthaShip LP via Mello Music (digital 2/16, physical 2/23). Dig on "Endure" from the EP, and "Get Up" from the LP above.
Royce the 5'9 has recently been making moves with Slaughterhouse, the hip hop "supergroup" featuring Crooked I, Joell Ortiz, and Joe Budden. Both Royce 5'9 and Crooked I are scheduled to perform at SOBs on March 9th, but no word on if the NYC/NJ based half of Slaughterhouse (Joell Ortiz, Joe Budden) will make an appearance. Tickets are on sale
Kidz In The Hall's new LP Land of Make Believe lands on Duck Down Records on March 9th, and the duo will hit the road for a pair of dates with 88 Keys, Izza Kizza and Doonis including Highline Ballroom on 2/28 and Ram's Head in Baltimore on 3/4. Tickets for Highline are on sale.
