"Following last year's 10th anniversary, which crushed previous attendance records and set a new mark for the speed with which tickets sold out, the Sasquatch! Music Festival unveils its 2012 lineup which once again features 4 days of music. The festival, hailed as "a model of well-paced programming...in a four-day schedule as efficient and natural feeling as an expertly built algorithm" by NPR Music while Wired notes, "leave the landscape out of it and Sasquatch! has a lineup to kill for," runs May 25-28 (Memorial Day Weekend) at The Gorge, the internationally acclaimed concert venue carved in the basalt cliffs high above the Columbia River Gorge in Quincy, WA."The Sasquatch! Music Festival takes place, as usual, at the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington over Memorial Day weekend (May 25-28). And this year's lineup is:

QUIKSILVER PRO NEW YORK SURF CONTEST WILL RUN: Update from Long BeachDamn. You can see the list of who was supposed to play, below...An important update from Long Beach - Quiksilver is working closely with the City of Long Beach to preserve the heart of the professional surf contest scheduled to start on Sunday, September 4 in light of the impact of Hurricane Irene and concerns for the Long Beach community, which suffered significant damage from the storm. The Quiksilver Pro is scheduled to start its 11-day "holding period" on Monday, September 5. The Quiksilver Pro Trials presented by Unsound Surf will run on Sunday, September 4.
The situation has been changing daily, and we recognize that City resources are focused on hurricane restoration and clean up as first priority. In that context, we have been informed by the City that the festival and music components of the event are no longer achievable.
The Quiksilver Pro NY is first and foremost about the surf contest and Long Beach has an incredible surfing tradition and spirit. We are committed to holding the ASP tour event at Long Beach so that together we can promote the sport by bringing together the best surfers in the world to this terrific community.

Girl Talk and tennis fans @ Terminal 5

"When New York lifts the curtain on the 2011 U.S. Open, a brilliant rivalry among an uncommonly gifted generation of men's tennis players will take center stage. After the earthquake, but before the hurricane, Girl Talk and Matt & Kim played a private U.S. Open party, sponsored by Heineken, at Terminal 5 (on Wednesday, August 24). Diana Wong was among those in attendance, and she took some pictures. They continue below...The chief protagonists: Roger Federer, at 30, fighting time and more physical foes in pursuit of a 17th major title; Rafael Nadal, whose victory last year completed a career Grand Slam; and Novak Djokovic, on track, with a 57-2 record, for the best season in the history of the men's game....
...But first comes a more daunting name: Hurricane Irene, whose strong winds and torrential rains are due to hit Long Island on Sunday, the day before the U.S. Open is scheduled to begin.
Tournament officials took the unprecedented step of canceling Arthur Ashe Kids' Day on Saturday and announced they'll shutter the Billie Jean King Tennis Center altogether on Sunday, scuttling the customary pre-event practice sessions and interviews. Meantime, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg ordered an evacuation of the city's low-lying areas, and all Broadway shows were canceled for the weekend.
All told, it's an ominous beginning for the season's final major, which is scheduled to conclude on a somber note, with the men's championship to be contested on the 10th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. [Wall Street Journal]

As the rowdy crowd chanted his name, Girl Talk, aka Gregg Gillis, took the stage in a hoodie and white bandana... and opened his laptop. Girl Talk's set was a seamless, ever-evolving collage of samples, cutting across genres and eras as he combined top-40 gems in new ways and even rap lyrics over Rush... Girl Talk's anarchic good-times music suited the celebratory vibe at the outdoor venue, where the crowd seemed part music nerds in dorky glasses, part sun-baked tubers in swimsuits and glowing bracelets. -[mysanantonio]A week after Governors Ball, Girl Talk spent his Saturday (6/25) in New Braunfels, Texas (near San Antonio), playing a mashed-up set to a raucous outdoor crowd with support from "hillbilly disco" rockers Bright Light Social Hour. Pictures from that show are in this post.
The DJ/remixer will hit multiple festivals this summer and fall including Lollapalooza, and the just-mentioned Popped! Fest in Philly in September. All dates are below.
In other Girl Talk news, Greg Gillis recently made the instrumental for his track with Jim Jones and LLoyd, "Believe in Magic", available for free download. Hear the original, alongside all tour dates and more pictures from Texas below.

Max Tundra and Junk Culture (who both also played Glasslands on Wednesday) are opening all dates through March 23rd. That includes last night, though we missed them. Pictures from Girl Talk's set are in this post though.
$75 "Early Bird Tickets" went on sale yesterday for the Governors Ball, the new fest coming to Governors Island that will feature a co-headlining set by Gregg Gillis. The closest thing we've seen to this on Governors Island is HARD Fest that took place with M.I.A. in July. This lineup, with more than one artist on the bill who can headline multiple nights at Terminal 5, is bigger though.
Meanwhile Girl Talk kicks off the next leg of his Winter Tour at a sold out Terminal 5 on 2/24. His last area show was at Wellmont earlier this month.

Bonnaroo (June 9-12 in Manchester Tennessee) has announced the 2011 lineup (slightly early), and like the rumored Lollapalooza lineup, Eminem is among the headliners. Bonnaroo also has Grammy winners Arcade Fire and the Black Keys, in addition to Lil Wayne, Mumford & Sons, the Strokes, The Decemberists, Florence & the Machine, Girl Talk, Beirut (haven't seen them in a while), and many more. Girl Talk @ Wellmont Theater

Girl Talk completed the first leg of his current tour at Wellmont Theater in Montclair, NJ Saturday night (2/5) (one night after Lauryn Hill played the same venue). Penguin Prison opened the show, like they did on previous dates. Pictures from that show are in this post.
Now on a slight break, Greg Gillis will launch the second leg of his tour at Terminal 5 in NYC on 2/24. The show is sold out.
Opening all Girl Talk dates from 2/24-3/25 are both Max Tundra and Girl Talk's Illegal Art label-mate Junk Culture, both of whom will first play their own smaller show at Glasslands in Brooklyn on 2/23 with Nite Club and George & Jonathan. Tickets are on sale. All tour dates are listed below.
Junk Culture released "Summer Friends" this week. The full 5-song tracklist is listed below. Download two of the tracks for free above now.
"Oxford Mississippi native Deepak Mantena of creative pop-project Junk Culture developed the sound for his newest release, Summer Friends, from a lifetime collection of sounds he'd captured on a handheld recorder. Drawing on inspiration he found in the vibrant harmonies, psychedelic noises and dance rhythms that saturated his environment, he created alluring melodies using guitar, keyboard, and percussion and topped them off with choruses of his own explosive vocals. Experimenting with recording and sampling the symphony of sounds from his everyday life left him filled with a sense of freedom and a revived faith in the process of making music; the warm euphoric tunes he emerged with reflect a compelling range of influences that include everything from west-coast style pop to hip-hop mash-ups and raw punk-informed electronic dance tunes." [PR]Max Tundra doesn't have a new release, but has been busy in the studio creating one. Meanwhile he is giving away a new track in the form of a Rockford Files theme song remix (grab that above). He has also recently released remixes for Marnie Stern, Abe Vigoda, Chilly Gonzales, Tune-Yards, Kele and others. Listen to those remixes below.
More pictures from the NJ Girl Talk show, all tour dates, and a pair of time lapse videos from the show in DC are also below...

Dan Deacon has been tapped by Francis Ford Coppola to score his next film, Twixt Now and Sunrise, due later this year. The gothic romance stars Val Kilmer, Bruce Dern, Ben Chaplin & Elle Fanning. In addition to scoring the film, Mr. Coppola and Mr. Deacon are collaborating on a larger level, details of which will be announced soon.In not really related news, Dan's old touring partner Girl Talk was the topic of a much-talked-about article in the NY Times (again) this past Sunday. Girl Talk is on tour now. Max Tundra and Junk Culture are both opening the sold out Terminal 5 show. Penguin Prison opens the sold out Wellmont Theatre show.
The announcement comes on the cusp of Deacon's concert of new music for So Percussion on Jan. 20th at the Merkin Concert Hall in NYC and his first performance of new orchestral work Feb 3rd and 4th with the Kitchner-Waterloo Symphony in Kitchner, Ontario.
The new Francis Ford Coppola movie is a horror movie, as the video below points out...
Girl Talk @ Lollapalooza 2008 (more by Bao Nguyen)

"...The Christian Science Monitor wrote today that Gillis' new album was "provoking copyright owners for the fifth time." The fifth time? Shouldn't the third or fourth provocation have been enough to set off a supposedly litigious industry?...So why hasn't Gillis been hauled in front of a judge by the music industry? Probably because he's the most unappealing defendant imaginable. Gillis would be a ready-made hero for copyright reformers; if he were sued, he'd have some of the best copyright lawyers in the country knocking on his door asking to take his case for free...."

Girl Talk has released a new album, All Day, for free download via Illegal Art. The LP is offered as a single extended-song download or broken into tracks, though the twelve track long-player is "intended to be listened to as a whole".
Not surprisingly, Gillis's 2/24 Terminal 5 show is now sold out (he played three nights in a row at the venue in 2008), but tickets are still available to his February 5th Wellmont Theater show. All tour dates HERE.

Junk Culture, which is made up of electronic artist Deepak Mantena and his younger brother Nitin Mantena on drums, got in position on stage and music immediately started flowing from the speakers. Everyone started dancing as if they were commanded to do so. They opened with a song which doesn't require any real dancing effort because your body starts swaying and your head starts bopping involuntarily with the beat. While they played, random videos like crashing ocean waves and a kid slalom skateboarding flashed on a large screen behind them. The random videos continued through the show with no pattern or theme, and later Deepak told me the videos were just '50s and '60s propaganda he chopped and assembled in the same fashion as he does music. [The Reflector on Junk Culture live Oct. 2009]Junk Culture is the lo-fi pop/hip-hop beats project of Illegal Art's Deepak Mantena, with his brother Nitin on drums (they also make sketch comedy videos as Celery TV, see below). They'll be coming to New York this weekend as part of their tour with psychy indie-pop Common Loon, the Champaign, IL duo of Matthew Campbell and Robert Hirschfeld. Both bands play Friday, July 9th at Coco 66 with k.Flay and Ava Luna, and the next night (7/10) at Union Hall with the Diggs.
Junk Culture's West Coast EP came out in 2009 on Illegal Art (home of Girl Talk), and he has a new record due in the fall. Common Loons's The Long Dream of Birds came out in April - check it out streaming on their Bandcamp.
Coming up, Junk Culture has a September tour with Tobacco who are giving away a free mix tape, and whose HEALTH remix from the new HEALTH remix LP, you can download above. Tobacco's Manic Meat came out in May which is also when The Hood Internet released a free mashup EP using some songs from it.
Tobacco's Anticon labelmates Why? are playing the debut 2010 Pool Party on July 11th.
HEALTH are playing Santos Party House this summer.
Girl Talk is playing Camp Bisco.

Who needs a traditional ball drop when countless rolls of toilet paper are unfurled into the crowd? Continuous streams of white tissue were one of the festive components that helped Girl Talk ring in the New Year Thursday at a sold-out Congress Theater during a feverish 110-minute concert that evolved into a sweaty rave.More pictures from the New Years Eve show, below...Backed by an elaborate stage set that featured a large-as-life dollhouse complete with a furnished hall, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and living room, the sample-based composer created an unbroken chain of pop mash-ups from the comfort of a laptop. The home-themed design and anything-goes atmosphere allowed Girl Talk, aka Gregg Gillis, to play host to what doubled as the world's greatest block party. Perched behind a table, the ex-biochemist stayed in perpetual motion. [Chicago Tribune]
Girl Talk @ Pool Party Summer '09 (more by Tim Griffin)

Girl Talk's label Illegal Art is offering all of the Girl Talk albums, and their entire catalog, as pay-what-you-wish downloads. Not all of the label's back catalog is up, but there is a release schedule (below) for the yet-to-be uploaded (including Girl Talk's debut Secret Diary). The label is also offering Gillis's 2006 break-out album Night Ripper for the first time on vinyl on December 8th.
With that news is also the news that Gregg Gillis will be at Meadowlands Sports Complex on May 2nd. That's the second night of the Bamboozle fest, which is being headlined by the recently-sidelined Weezer. Either the festival is becoming more diverse or the artists are appealing to a bigger fan base. The headliner for night one (consistent with what we know about Bamboozle) is Paramore (at least I think they are one of the headliners). As previously mentioned, tickets are on sale Friday.
Girl Talk's other upcoming US show is a sold-out New Year's Eve gig at Chicago's Congress Theater. He plays Australia and New Zealand this January. All dates and the Illegal Art Pay What You Wish release schedule are below...
