Real Estate at FYF 2014 (more by Adela Loconte)
Real Estate

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows, but here are some highlights...

Ariel Pink, Puro Instinct @ Baby's All Right
Ariel Pink's new double album, pom pom, is eccentric even by his own out-there standards ("Dinosaur Carebears" will test the skip-button desires of many) but it also contains some wonderful pop. Hear it all (or most of it) live tonight at the late-start show with Puro Instinct as DJs.

Real Estate, Peaking Lights, Regal Degal, Tom Scharpling (DJ set) @ Terminal 5
NJ janglers Real Estate play their biggest NYC show yet, with strong support from LA dance-dub duo Peaking Lights, and Brooklyn artrockers Regal Degal. WFMU-DJ-turned-indie-rock-video-director Tom Scharpling spins tunes in between set (or something).

Hercules and Love Affair (live) @ Verboten
Hercules & Love Affair released their new album, The Feast of the Broken Heart, back in May. Guests on this one include John Grant who provides vocals on two tracks, including single "I Try To Talk To You." Tonight's an actual live set from the band, not a DJ gig.

Ausmuteants, Deaf Wish, Pampers, Degreaser @ Death By Audio
If you like your punk on the arty side and aren't against some keyboards, tonight's a killer lineup at DbA. Australian band Ausmuteans and Deaf Wish headline and Brooklyn bashers Pampers and Degreasers open.

Odesza, Hayden James, Ambassadeurs @ Bowery Ballroom
Electronic duo Odesza keep moving up in the world and this week they return to NYC for their two biggest headlining shows here so far, both of which are sold out. This is the first, MHOW tomorrow.

Jungle, Beaty Heart @ Irving Plaza
Enigmatic when it comes to press shots and music videos, UK dance act Jungle are a seven-or-eight piece band live, more than capable of bringing the grooves to the stage, even if maybe all their songs sound exactly alike.

A Great Big Pile Of Leaves, Diamond Youth, Prawn, Field Mouse @ The Studio At Webster Hall
This is the NYC stop of the Topshelf Records tour, which shows how diverse that label has really became. AGBPOL make Minus the Bear-y math pop, Diamond Youth have kind of a QOTSA-meets-Weezer thing going on, Prawn do Kinsella-style emo, and Field Mouse make shiny '90s-style alt pop.

Krill, Sorority Noise, Told Slant, Pinegrove @ Shea Stadium
Cool bill at Shea tonight with quirky indie rockers Krill, emo-y indie rockers Sorority Noise, and the emotional but not emo-y Told Slant.

LVL UP, Crying, Brunch, Mitski @ Silent Barn
A similarly-styled show to the Shea show goes down at Silent Barn with '90s-style rockers LVL UP, chiptuners Crying, ex-Krill drummer's new band Brunch, and art pop songwriter turned lo-fi ace, Mitski.

Geryon, Gates (Toronto), Oneirogen, New Firmament @ Trans-Pecos
Invisible Oranges is presenting this show that includes two of the better local metal bands, Geryon and Oneirogenm plus Toronto's Gates and ex-Extra Life band New Firmament.

Danny Brown @ Sonos Studios
Danny Brown not only makes killer rap albums but he has a super excitable live show that's partially due to his love of trap/EDM beats. You had to RSVP for this show and that's now closed.

House Party ft. Danny Brown, Just Blaze, DJ Soul, Electric Punany @ Webster Hall
After the Sonos show, Danny will join Just Blaze at his weekly House Party at Webster Hall to keep the party going late. As always, House Party starts at 10 PM.

Rakim, Slick Rick @ Stage 48
Two undeniable legends of hip hop, Rakim and Slick Rick, team up at Stage 48 tonight. Expect a show chock full of the classics.

Delta Spirit, Peter Matthew Bauer @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
The folk rockin' Delta Spirit put out a new album, Into The Wide, earlier this month and tonight they're on the third of three nights in NYC in support of it. Making this one even better, The Walkmen's Peter Matthew Bauer, who's got a solid solo record out, is opening. Like the last two, tonight's is sold out.

Letherette, Girl Unit, Eli Escobar, Cry Baby @ Output
Good lineup all around for Output's always-impressive weekly INPUT party tonight. There's NInja Tune's Letherette and Night Slugs' Girl Unit, plus solid local house producer Eli Escobar and Cry Baby of NYC's House on Mute party.

Dan'l Boone, Yellow Tears, Ligature @ Saint Vitus
Dan'l Boone have members of Royal Trux, Wolf Eyes, AIDS Wolf and more, and if you're into those bands you probably have an idea of what to expect from Dan'l Boone. Their new record came out last week on Drag City and tonight they're in NYC to celebrate with the urine-soaked Yellow Tears and Christopher Hansell's Ligature project.

Cro-Mags, Ensign, Real Cops, White Collar Crime LLC, School Drugs @ Asbury Lanes
NYC crossover vets Cro-Mags play their hometown tomorrow, but if seeing them in Asbury Park is more your thing (or you've just gotta catch them twice), here's your chance.

Chalk and Numbers, Souvenir Stand, Pale Lights, The Meaning of Life @ Cake Shop
A good evening of indiepop tonight with girl group-y Chalk & Numbers, the Felt/Lloyd Cole-esque jangle of Pale Lights and more.

Woman's Hour @ Mercury Lounge
UK band Woman's Hour make ethereal, melancholic soul and their debut album is a nice listen.

Black Flag were supposed to play Grand Victory tonight but that show has been cancelled.

For all of tonight's shows, and tomorrow's, check out our NYC concert calendar.

For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.

Moon Boots
Moon Boots

There's never a lack of good electronic shows coming up in NYC. Here's a few highlights...

To start, here's some at new-ish Williamsburg dance club Verboten. Hip hop producer Nosaj Thing teams up with Dutch dubstepper Martyn, NY's multi-genre Sebastian Tamayo, and San Francisco house producer Matrixxman for a show at Verboten tonight (6/6). Tickets are available. Martyn is releasing a new album, The Air Between Words, on his new label home of Ninja Tune (he was previously on Brainfeeder) on June 16. The album features his Four Tet collaboration and a collab with former Hype Williams singer (Inga) Copeland, "Love of Pleasure," which you can stream below. That album was prefaced with the Forgiveness EP which came out this week, and Martyn also released a Live at BBC video this week which you can watch below. Martyn and Matrixxman join forces in NYC again this summer for Warm Up.

Pop-house revivalist Moon Boots returns to Verboten on June 12 with his French Express labelmate Perseus and Plastic Plates. He just dropped another typically great single, "Whatever You Need," which you can stream below. Tickets for the show are on sale.

UK house producer/remixer Maya Jane Coles, who recently remixed Booka Shade's "Love Drug" (ft. ex-Azari & III member Fritz Helder), plays with George Fitzgerald and Alex Arnout at Verboten on June 20 (tickets). George also plays the same Warm Up as Martyn and Matrixxman.

DFA's The Juan Maclean hits Verboten on June 26. No other acts billed at the moment, but tickets are on sale.

Moving on to another Williamsburg dance club, Output, where UK hip hop/house producer Star Slinger plays on June 19. You can grab tix.

FIXED also have a couple parties at Output coming up, including one Sunday (6/8) on the venue's roof with a DJ set from NYC duo Blondes (tickets), and another one with veteran DJ/M83 collaborator Ewan Pearson on June 12 (tickets).

FIXED also throw a NYC party tonight (6/6) at Cameo) with James Murphy's pal Eric Duncan and Andrew Blancato. Tickets for tonight's show are available.

Medlar
Medlar

London house producer Medlar, who broke through in 2011 with his "Terrell" single, makes his US debut at another FIXED party at Cameo on July 18. Tickets for that one are on sale. Watch the video for "Terrell" below.

In other news, the Night Slugs label celebrates its 6th birthday on June 27 at 88 Palace with many of the usual suspects, Bok Bok, L-Vis 1990, Girl Unit, Mike Dunn and RP Boo (who has an Adult Swim single coming soon). Tickets for that one are on sale now.

Another good show happens at that venue the next night (6/28) with Pearson Sound, Vissacoor, Teengirl Fantasy, Rrose, Sinjin Hawke and Aquarian (tickets).

Speaking of electronic label anniversaries, UNO throws their UNOversary this year on June 14 at Cameo, which doubles as a Northside showcase. CFCF, Aquarian, Gobby, Kuhrye-oo and Feral are all on the bill. Tickets are on sale and you can also try getting in with your Northside badge.

King Britt
King Britt

Veteran Philly DJ King Britt is releasing his first full length as his Fhloston Paradigm alias, The Phoenix, on June 9 via Hyperdub (stream some very promising clips). He'll be in NYC to celebrate that release on July 7 at Cielo where he'll play a special DJ set and a live sci-fi set. Free admission and complimentary vodka cocktails before 11 PM with eflyer, $12 with eflyer after 11 PM, and $20 without eflyer.

Thug Entrancer, who put out his Death After Life LP via Software earlier this year, plays NYC again on June 19 at Cameo with a good lineup of Prism House and Octo Octa. Tix are on sale.

And don't forget tonight you can also catch James Blake DJing Output, which is sold out but a few tickets will be available at the door.

Of course those are just a few of the upcoming electronic shows in NYC. What did we miss? All mentioned streams and videos below...

Egyptrixx - 'A/B Til Infinity'
Egyptrixx

Toronto electronic musician Egyptrixx released his new album, A/B Til Infinity, last month (11/26) via Night Slugs, and it can be streamed in all its atmospheric and space-age synthy glory on RDIO. He'll celebrate that album when he makes the NYC debut of his A/V show (but not his NYC debut in general) at Glasslands on January 3. Sinden is co-headliner with Judge Wise (Brooklyn Bass) opening, and tickets are on sale now.

Another notable electronic show at Glasslands is jazzy UK producer Floating Points' return to NYC when he plays the venue on January 17 with Phil South and Love on the Run. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Detroit's Shigeto, who plays NYC quite frequently, plays Glasslands on December 28 with Lord Raja. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

NYC duo Blondes, who returned with a surprise album this year, play a TURBOTAX party at the venue on January 25 with MGUN. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Australian synth popsters Van She, who came here in September for a live show at LPR will return to NYC to DJ with live vocals at Glasslands on February 28. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Meanwhile, there's also a couple good electronic shows you can catch at Glasslands this week, including Girl Unit on Thursday (12/12) (tickets) and Nguzunguzu on Friday (12/13) (tickets).

Stream some tracks below...

Fade to Mind

Black Dice were supposed to play 285 Kent tonight (9/27) with Teengirl Fantasy, but that show had to be canceled at the last minute due to a family emergency.

In its place, 285 Kent will instead host a Lit City/Fade to Mind/Night Slugs party with a bunch of the regulars, including Bok Bok, Kingdom, L-Vis 1990, Rizzla, MikeQ, Jubilee, and J-Cush. Not a bad last minute replacement. Tickets for tonight's party are on sale now.

Fade to Mind is also throwing a party soon at Output on October 10, which also includes Kingdom, in addition to Nguzunguzu, Prince Will, and special guests. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

In related news, on October 1, Fade to Mind will release the debut from Teengirl Fantasy collaborator Kelela, CUT 4 ME. The album features production from Nguzunguzu, Kingdom, Bok Bok, Jam City, Girl Unit, and more. Stream the Nguzunguzu-produced single, "Enemy," below...

Rustie
Rustie

As mentioned this past January, Williamsburg got a new, 452-capacity dance club, Output at 74 Wythe Ave by N. 12th St. We weren't sure exactly what types of "techno, house and other EDM styles" would be booked at the venue, but we're happy to report that they've already got some great shows coming up, as part of their weekly Thursday party, INPUT.

Tonight (2/28), Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs is DJing the venue with Rory Phillips and Nick Hook. Tickets for tonight's show are available.

We already mentioned that Shlohmo's tour with D33J hits the venue on March 7, but that show is even better than we knew then, because Rustie, Jackmaster, and Oneman are on it too. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Then on March 14, Maxxi Soundsystem will play with Compuphonic, Plastic Plates, and Let's Play House's Jacques Renault (tickets). Meanwhile, there's a Let's Play House party happening this Friday (3/1) at Le Bain with DFA Records DJ Shit Robot and Eug.

The Night Slugs crew is hitting the venue on March 21 for a great show which features Bok Bok, Kingdom, L-Vis 1990, Girl Unit, Mike Q, Rizzla, and a live set from Teengirl Fantasy collaborator Kelela. Tickets for that one are on sale now.

You can stream a Rustie track below...

Bok Bok
Girl Unit

Night Slugs, one of the best current labels for left field bass music, are putting together a mini-tour with Girl Unit, Kingdom, and label co-founders Bok Bok and L-Vis 1990. The tour surrounds Holy Ship!!, which sets sail off the coast of Ft. Lauderdale on Friday (1/4), and it hits NYC on January 11 at Steel Drums (35 Beadel Street in Brooklyn). Tickets for that show are on sale now.

The show flyer, a list of all dates, and some song streams are below...

Girl Unit

UK producer Girl Unit (aka Philip Gamble) is currently wrapping up a short Australian tour, which he'll follow with a short visit to the US next month. After taking a bit of a break, he'll return to our shores in the fall for a few more shows, including a NYC date on October 5 at Glasslands for a LAZERPOP party. Tickets for that show are on sale now.

Girl Unit's most recent release is the Club Rez EP, which he dropped on Night Slugs earlier this year. It's super dancey and should be a hit when he plays it at Glasslands. You can stream the whole EP via a spotify widget below.

That stream and a list of all dates are below.

Traxman

After So So Glos, Lost Boy, Life Size Maps, and Big Ups play 285 Kent tonight (5/25), an entirely different show will go down at the venue. Weird Terrain is throwing a dance party which will kick off at midnight and reign until the wee hours of the morn. The party's being headlined by Traxman (aka Cornelius Ferguson), who's pretty much running the game of footwork right now and has been a mainstay in the Chicago dance scene since the 90s. He recently released a great new full length, Da Mind of Traxman, on Planet Mu and you can stream the track, "1988" from that release below.

Tonight's lineup also includes Howse (aka Nathaniel Oak), one of the newest members of the small, but always impressive Tri Angle Records family. Like labelmates Balam Acab, Clams Casino, and oOoOO, Howse's beats emerge from dark, otherworldy swamps, rarely feeling like they've ever seen the light of day. And he'll be a great fit with Traxman tonight too -- underneath those swampy layers, he's blasting minimal footwork patterns that no doubt are inspired by the scene Traxman has long been part of. Tri Angle will issue Howse's most recent EP, Lay Hallow, on May 28. Listen to the track, "VBS" below.

Also on tonight's bill is 100% Silk artist Octo Octa (aka Michael Morrison), who dropped a collaborative 12" with La Vampires (aka Amanda Brown) last week. The collaboration is some of the strongest material I've heard from either artist. See for yourself by checking out the video for "Freedom 2K" and stream another track from the collab, "Wherever, Boy" below.

Joining Traxman, Howse, and Octo Octa tonight will be Naka Naka (who's in town from Mexico), The Range, and Rezzie (Weird Magic). Check out more info at the facebook event. Flier below.

You can keep the party going at 285 Kent on Saturday (5/26) too when Lazer Sword (who are on Modeselektor's Monkeytown label) come through on their North American tour which kicks off tonight in Charlotte, NC. Tomorrow's show is with Night Slugs producers MORRI$ and Helix, along with resident Fade to Mind, Weird Magic, and S!CK DJs. Tickets are available. The tour is in support of Lazer Sword's new album, Memory, out now on Monkeytown. Stream the track, "Missed a Spot," from that release below.

Another dance option for tonight (5/25) is the Turbotax party at Santos Party House, which is billed as 'Fade to Mind vs Night Slugs." It's part of a North American tour that Bok Bok (Night Slugs) is on, and tonight he'll by joined by Rizzla (Fade to Mind) and Kingdom (who has releases on Night Slugs and runs Fade to Mind), along with Turbotax regular Rem Koolhaus. Check out a recent Night Slugs mix Bok Bok made, which features material from Night Slugs labelmates Girl Unit and Jam City, here. A list of all Bok Bok dates, his tour flier, and the flier for tonight's show are below.

Speaking of Night Slugs, both Jam City and Girl Unit have new releases out on the label this month. Stream clips of Girl Unit's Club Rez EP below and stream a genesis mix for Jam City's Classical Curves LP (his debut full length) here. Jam City is currently supporting that release on tour and will come to NYC for a turbotax party on July 27. A list of all Jam City dates and the tour flier are below.

One last related bit, LA duo Nguzunguzu, who have released material on Kingdom's Fade to Mind label, have a new EP coming called Warm Pulse. It will be out July 3 digitally and August 14 physically via Hippos in Tanks. The cover art is below.

A list of all dates, streams, video and fliers below...

Jamie xx
jamiexx.jpg

Jamie xx (of The xx) is DJing at Le Poisson Rouge tonight (8/1) with Brenmar. LPR's site also lists a special guest for tonight's show. That guest is Girl Unit, who, like Jamie, makes ambient dubstep beats in their shared hometown of London. Tickets for tonight's show are still on sale. UPDATE: Jamie xx has cancelled due to visa issues. It's unclear if the event will still happen without him.. The event will still happen and it's now free (still no Jamie though).

In related news, "Over the coming weeks, Jamie xx will collaborate with multimedia artist Quayola, whom he has long admired. Their work will culminate in an original and immersive audiovisual live music experience titled 'Structures', housed in a carefully chosen venue... an event not to be missed." If you're in the UK and want to try and attend, more info is at Rizlab.

Girl Unit is finishing up a short North American tour which also hit Osheaga in Montreal last weekend. Tonight's LPR show is one of a few August dates for Brenmar who plays another NYC show on August 12 at Brooklyn Bowl with Dillon Francis. Tickets are on sale now. Jamie xx has a bunch of other appearances coming up too, though no more in the US. The xx are hopefully working on a new album.
