Here We Go Magic @ Baby's All Right, Dec. 2013 (more by Amanda Hatfield)
HWGM

As we just posted, Scottish duo Honeyblood and Saint Rich were added to Teenage Fanclub's River Rocks show on July 24. (This will be TFC's first NYC show in four years.) That's not the only update to the line-ups of the three free River Rocks shows they're doing at Hudson River Park's Pier 84 this summer.

The August 7 show with Temples now has Here We Go Magic and Spires on the bill as well. River Rocks' 2014 kickoff show is July 10 with Wild Beasts and Mutual Benefit. If you show up early that night -- pardon the self-promotion -- I'll be DJing from 6 PM till Mutual Benefit start (around 8 PM).

All River Rocks shows are free, all-ages and open to the public, with gates opening at 6 PM for each one.

Speaking of free Here We Go Magic shows on a Pier, they're playing TONIGHT (5/14) at Pier 2 in Brooklyn Bridge Park with Gospels and Porcelain Raft. It's the official pre-party for New York Road Runner Five-Borough Series: Brooklyn Half Marathon which happens on Saturday (5/17). Show tonight starts at 8 PM.

Kvelertak at the Studio at Webster Hall, May 2013 (more by Keith Marlowe)
IMAGE

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows, but here are some highlights...

Kvelertak, Extinction AD, Kosmodemonic @ Saint Vitus
Kvelertak pull from some of the biggest rock giants of all time (Metallica, Black Sabbath, Ramones) and inject blackish vocals and a party attitude that's really entirely their own. This is a much smaller show than the larger venues they've been playing opening on tour for Mastodon, and is sold out.

Fredo Santana, Black Dave @ Highline Ballroom
Chicago rapper Fredo Santana made his NYC debut just a few months ago at Santos Party House, and now he's already on to the much larger Highline Ballroom. Tickets are still available.

Owen Pallett, Doldrums @ Bowery Ballroom
Having collaborated with Arcade Fire, Brian Eno and others in the last year, Owen Pallett straddles the line between pop musician and composer, a tightrope act he walks deftly on new album In Conflict. Read our recent interview.

Metronomy, Cloud Control @ Webster Hall
Metronomy's new album, Love Letters, was an all-analogue affair, coming off more like something from the '70s, though still viewed through leader Joe Mount's quirky worldview. Live, it's a little more dancey and a a little more magenta.

Blood Red Shoes, Radkey, Rad Dreams @ Glasslands
Brighton, UK duo Blood Red Shoes raise a ruckus, making highly danceable rock (and putting on a well-regarded live show). The band's self-titled fourth album came out in March.

The Faint, Suuns, Darren Keen @ MHOW
Dancepunk vets The Faint released their first new album in six year, Doom Abuse, back in April which finds them picking up pretty much where they left off. Tonight's the first of three NYC shows. Don't miss Montreal's Suuns who open.

Howler, Frankie Teardrop @ Mercury Lounge
Minneapolis' Howler are descendants of The Replacements' sloppy guitar pop tradition, as heard on the band's new album, World Of Joy, which owes more than a little to The Strokes lineage as well.

Divining Rod, Small Apartments, Hamish Kilgour, The Dead Blue Sea @ Cake Shop
Diving Rod is the new band from Miyuki Furtado who used to co-front The Rogers Sisters. Check out the band's new single below. Also playing: Clean drummer (and Brooklyn resident) Hamish Kilgour.

Here We Go Magic, Gospels, Porcelain Raft @ Pier 2 at Brooklyn Bridge Park
This is a free outdoor show, and the official pre-party for the NYRR Five-Borough Series: Brooklyn Half Marathon. 8 PM.

Red Bull Music Academy Night of Improvised Round Robin Duets with Allen Toussaint, Daedelus, Amp Fiddler, David Murray, Nels Cline, Marc Ribot, Shigeto, Petra Haden, Jherek Bischoff and more @ Town Hall
Like last year, this year's Red Bull Music Academy will feature a 'Night of Improvised Round Robin Duets' which is pretty much exactly what it sounds like it is. Two musicians share the stage improvising, one leaves and a different one joins. Rinse repeat. Tonight's lineup includes electronic producers Daedelus and Shigeto, guitar greats Marc Ribot and Nels Cline, David Byrne/Amanda Palmer collaborator Jherek Bischoff, New Orleans R&B veteran Allen Toussaint, ex-P-Funk member Amp Fiddler, free jazz veteran David Murray, that dog. member Petra Haden, and more.

Eddie Izzard @ Beacon Theatre
Eddie Izzard brings his current show, "Force Majeure," to North America and this is his second of three NYC shows at Beacon Theatre.

Big Terrific Comedy Show @ Cameo Gallery
Max Silvestri hosts the free weekly comedy show in the back of Williamsburg's Lovin' Cup. Tonight's packed bill features Mike Recine, Greg Barris, Jake Weisman, John Early, Kara Klenk, Baron Vaughn, and Roger Hailes.

For all of tonight's shows, and tomorrow's, check out our NYC concert calendar.

Half Moon Run at Austin's Stubbs in June (more by Sarah Frankie Linder)
Half Moon Run

Montreal's Half Moon Run have been touring relentlessly since the release of their debut album and are one of the many bands who will descend on NYC next month for CMJ 2013. They'll probably be playing a few times, like most bands do these days, but their major bow during the week happens October 19 at Bowery Ballroom headlining the Paradigm Agency showcase that also features MisterWives, Gospels, and Flagship. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (9/6) at noon with an AmEx presale beginning Wednesday (9/4) at noon.

That show is part of a fall tour with MisterWives. They've also go European dates after that and all are listed below.
