Singer-songwriter Paul Simon said Monday that he and wife Edie Brickell "had an argument" before they were arrested Saturday.Yay!
Brickell, in a statement sent to CNN by her lawyer, said she started it.
"I got my feelings hurt and I picked a fight with my husband," Brickell said. "The police called it disorderly. Thank God it's orderly now"
Simon and Brickell were arrested on disorderly conduct charges by police investigating a family dispute at their New Canaan, Connecticut, home Saturday night, according to police. "Investigating officers gathered information and found probable cause to arrest" Simon, 72, and Brickell, 47, a police statement said.
The couple was released from custody Sunday morning.
They held hands when appearing before a judge in the Norwalk Superior Court Monday.
"Edie and I are fine," Simon said. "We're going to see our son's baseball game this afternoon."
Lindsay Lohan in practical desert wear at Coachella 2012
During the last minute plea talks between Lindsay Lohan's attorney, Mark Heller, and prosecutors handling her lying to cops case, the wayward actress told him to keep her out of rehab until AFTER the Coachella music festival so she could attend...The online site is hinting that it may be related to a budding romance that LiLo has with an "NYC musician and club promoter," but that is just supposition. Or maybe she's just trying to fit in one last desert party before the rehab gets its hooks in her. #priorities
"Lindsay was adamant that she not be forced to go to rehab until after the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in the Palm Springs area on successive weekends in April. Lindsay LOVES going to the musical festival, and she's determined to go this year. She didn't want a little thing like rehab to get in her way of attending. Linds refused to sign off on any deal that would have prevented her from going to Coachella, period. Yes, it's that important to her, for some strange reason," -[RadarOnline]
Gossip singer Beth Ditto was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct on Friday night (March 15).We last caught Beth, in a much better mood, when she visited Brooklyn in September.
The singer was reportedly arrested at 1:42am after being denied service in the Bungalo Bar in Portland for being too drunk, you can see her police mug shot above. A source told Willamette Week that after being thrown out of the bar, Ditto "walked out in the middle of the street, threw off her shoes and purse and screamed 'Obama! Obama!'" which alerted police who subsequently arrested her.
Additionally, a Reddit user who was drinking in the same bar as Ditto on the night posted his account of what happened prior to the arrest. The user states that "By 1:30 Beth was completely blackout drunk challenging people to fights. My friends and I headed over to the Bungalow from the Alibi only to be met with Beth's belligerent asshole posse. We got our drinks and went out to the back, only to hear her and her friends breaking shit." Adding: "Fifteen minutes later she was arrested for being a complete fucking cunt. The bartender called the police because she kicked him in balls." [NME, via]

Gossip at Brooklyn Bowl, 9/27/2012
Gossip have been touring like crazy in support of their recent, Xenomania-produced album, A Joyful Noise, and hit Brooklyn Bowl last night and made good use of the venue's giant disco ball. The band's fans are enthusiastic to say the least, including one superfan who kept an 8x10 glossy and a Sharpie in front of him the whole show hoping for an autograph. (Hope you got it!) Ditto came out and sang with opener Bonnie Montgomery for a song, too (photos of that below), and Corin Tucker's favorite new band Magic Mouth rounded out the bill.
Gossip's tour rolls on, playing Toronto tonight. Tour dates are listed below, along with more photos from last night's Gossip show, including one of the setlist.
Gossip at Terminal 5 in May (more by Joe McCabe)
The Gossip are continuing to tour in support of their 2012 album, A Joyful Noise. The band came to NYC back in May for a Terminal 5 show and now they've announced that they'll return in the fall as part of a North American tour that includes a show at the much smaller Brooklyn Bowl on September 27. Tickets for that show go on sale Thursday (8/9) at noon. The list of all dates and a video below...

Eddie Vedder & Beth Ditto @ Rock Werchter 2012 - 6/29/2012
"Rock Werchter is a Belgian annual music festival held in the village of Werchter, near Leuven, since 1973. It is one of the five biggest annual rock music festivals in Europe (the other four being Exit, Sziget Festival, the Glastonbury Festival and Roskilde Festival). The 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007 festivals received the Arthur award for best festival in the world at the International Live Music Conference (ILMC). It can host 85,000 guests daily, of which 67,000 combine all four days, to add up to a total maximum of 139,000 different attendees." [Wikipedia]You saw pictures from day one. Here we go with day two..
Day two of Belgium festival Rock Werchter kicked off for me with the still-reunited, classic California punk band X playing on the main stage. I stayed for their entire, great set which means I missed Belgium band School is Cool who were playing on the other side of the park. Judging by the bubbles seen on several attendees leaving that stage though, it looked like missed a fun time. Other bands on the second day, of this festival that featured so many big names, included Pearl Jam, Lana Del Rey, Jack White, Deadmau5, The Gossip, Beirut and many others
I couldn't make it to every band on all three stages each day, obviously, but I at least have a good excuse for missing Mastodon: I was getting a behind-the-scenes tour of the fest (many thanks to FIAF and Rock Werchter for the hospitality - and WAFFLES!). They took me behind the fences and gateways, to get a glimpse all that goes on to keep things moving. The scale and logistics were pretty mind-expanding. Some bullets:
- Rock Werchter goes for 4 days at the end on June, but initial setup begins in early May.
- More than 8000 are directly employed by the festival, with thousands more as subcontractors.
- More than 25% of the staff are directly engaged in security and safety of the venue and audience.
- Most staff are sourced locally to ensure direct local benefits from the festival.
- Rock Werchter is practically a small town, with everything but a school system on site (medical services, residences, offices, supply depots, repair stations, food services (including storage and preparation), and even on site garbage sorting and recycling.
- Thousands of large steel road plates are used throughout the facilities to protect the ground from vehicle traffic, and thousands of square meters of field and audience areas are also similarly protected using plastic and wood flooring.
No pictures from backstage, but more from who was playing on the stages, along with Pearl Jam's setlist, below...
We try to keep tabs on various festivals around the world here on BrooklynVegan, many of which you'll eventually see pictures from. Today we focus on Belgium.

That festival includes The Stone Roses, Bjork, Bloc Party, The Black Keys, Refused, Wilco, The Hives, The Shins, The Afghan Whigs, Lykke Li, Hot Chip, Feist, Flying Lotus, tUnE-yArDs, Chromatics, Cloud Nothings, The Tallest Man on Earth, Baroness, Ceremony, A-Trak, Rustie, Hudson Mohawke, and more. The full lineup is listed below. Tickets for the festival are on sale now.
Rock Werchter, which falls a bit more on the mainstream side, happens in Belgium even sooner, running from June 28 - July 1. That lineup includes The Cure, Jack White, X, Mastodon, Garbage, The xx, M83, Metric, Amon Tobin, Skrillex, Perfume Genius, Bat For Lashes, Michael Kiwanuka, Alabama Shakes, My Morning Jacket, Regina Spektor, Florence + the Machine, The Vaccines and more. Tickets for the festival are
on sale now sold out.
The full lineups for both Pukkelpop and Rock Wercher are listed below.

The Gossip played Terminal 5 on Tuesday (May 22), supporting their new, disco-ized album A Joyful Noise which came out the same day. Given the success of the Soulwax remix of "Standing in the Way of Control," it's a logical progression, and Beth Ditto has taken on the new role with the command you'd expect. Maybe you watched the show from your couch, as it streamed live from Bowery Presents's YouTube channel. There are video clips from that stream below if you missed in on Tuesday.

"I woke up the morning after the Gossip concert and could not get Beth Ditto's breasts out of my head. They were unleashed Friday night at Terminal 5 for one of the hottest concerts I've been to in some time. The energy and fervor lured out of the crowd by the insane vocals of front woman Beth Ditto, guitarist Brace Paine and drummer Hannah Blilie is unmatched. I envy the confidence and drive of Ditto, with her severe bob and bangs, mad makeup, spirit, humor and plus-size fabulousness. I sort of want live in her world. I'm also enthralled with the androgynous Blilie, who also graces the cover of Gossip's latest album cover, Music for Men." [CenterOrch]Gossip (again), Rye Rye (who has since been added to the M.I.A./Die Antwoord show) & the Phenomenal Handclap Band (who have since added a headlining show at MHOW) shared a bill at Terminal 5 in NYC Friday night (5/2). The show was part of a tour that started at Coachella. More pictures from it, with the headliner's setlist, below...

"An aggregate 225,000 people bought tickets to see a [Coachella] roster headlined by Jay-Z, Muse and Gorillaz during the April 16-18 event at the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio. The 2010 edition of Coachella actually began excactly one week ago today, and we already posted full picture sets from: DAY ONE, DAY TWO and DAY THREE. Now here is one last group that contains unposted outtakes from all three...
The previous attendance record was set in 2007, when the headliners included a reunited Rage Against the Machine. Final figures are still being tallied, but AEG Live CEO Randy Phillips said the gross will exceed $20 million.
Phillips said the future looked bleak for AEG Live's nascent All Points West festival, which took place in 2008 and 2009 across the Hudson River from lower Manhattan at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, N.J.
"We're probably going to kill it," said Phillips. "As beautiful as (the site) is, it's very hard to get New Yorkers to cross that river. All Points West is an experiment that just didn't work." [Reuters]

"Wow. The Sahara is past capacity at Coachella for Die Antwoord. No midget. Waiting for the trainwreck but people dig it." - The Scenestar
"Seeing a shirtless Danny DeVito run across the stage while Faith No More played pretty much made my #coachella weekend." - stovn
Die Antwoord, Faith No More
Flopping phalluses are in this year according to Major Lazer and Die Antwoord. Each presented the intersection of beats, party-hyping, gross humor, and dancing in your underwear. Day 2 of the Coachella Music & Arts Festival had an overall far-out theme. Some with sexually explicit lunacy, others with psychedelic music. South Africa's Die Antwoord introduced zef-rap to the festival, South Africa's version of white trash hip hop-a bold, fearless expression of crazy stick a finger up your bum entertainment.
Before arriving at these culminating moments, the day progressed through a series of psychedelic and/or raunchy expressions. John Waters kicked things off with thoughts on crawling through pig poo, taking poppers, the pleasures of sploshing, and strange things he wants to do before he dies. Gossip's Beth Ditto hoped he was watching her blazing disco soul performance but was afraid to look backstage and see him smiling and waving at her. Gossip put on a set that inspired revelations on reality in the most self-empowering ways.
John Waters & Beth Ditto @ Coachella (this pics via Jermey Scott)
The day's best covers include Faith No More doing "Reunited" (they also covered Michael Jackson's "Ben"), Portugal, The Man's jamming Bowie's "Moonlight Daydream," and Girls' flawless "All I Have To Do Is Dream" by the Everly Brothers. The last was a most appropriate choice for the band with an Ariel Pink sensibility towards '50s ballads. MGMT brought the futuristic 1960s with songs from its new album. Many pointed out that the band didn't play "Kids", but that seems to miss the point that MGMT put on a pretty sophisticated, experimental live performance of the band's signature Indian headdress on Phil Spector Fraggle Rock sound.
The Raveonettes played as a duo and sans drum machine, adorably sharing a mic sometimes. The rest of the band remains trapped under lava in Iceland, figuratively speaking. Camera Obscura also shouted out bands stuck in the UK, dedicating "Let's Get Out Of This Country" to those who could not make it.
It seems almost every DJ this weekend has sampled Major Lazer's "Pon De Floor" except Flying Lotus, who took the stage all on his own (no Thom Yorke cameo included). After warming up the crowd with some first grade experimental hip hop, FlyLo brought out the big guns, sounds combined in layers and pitches that act like quaaludes on the light speed continuum. The Dirty Projectors girls evoked cool electronic birds and the Dezurik Sisters with their harmonizing powers. Beach House cooed the audience romantically as 50% of the band, Alex Scally, rubbed his slide up and down the frets.
Did that sound sexy? It's time to talk about sexy. The xx provided the mellow arousal Blonde Redhead and Portishead have given Coachella the last two years. People like The xx because they want sex that fits this soundtrack. They also want sex as excitingly goofy gross as Die Antwoord and to fall in love with a gal like Sia, all at the same time. Sia's beautiful voice closed the night in the Gobi tent, and though her accent rendered her side comments completely incomprehensible, everyone laughed and agreed with anything she said. On the other hand, as great and sexy as the Dead Weather sounded, I don't know if I want to bed someone who demands I treat her like my mother. Old Crow Medicine Show suggested letting a woman rule your mind leads to troubles during "Minglewood Blues." Instead, let her win your heart with country-fried dinner.
Faith No More's twelve-song set included a cameo by a semi-streaker who happened to be Coachella regular Danny Devito. You can see that happen in one of the videos below. Faith No More's whole setlist is down there too.
Porcupine Tree, Tokyo Police Club, Hot Chip, The Almighty Defenders, Les Claypool, Devo, and Muse were also on the bill Saturday. Our review, pictures and videos from Friday are HERE. Saturday continues below...

"Beth Ditto started singing from somewhere in the ether, and when she finally set foot on stage, the crowd went berserk...but quickly reigned themselves in so as not to miss a single second of Bethtastic vocal goodness. The band's universally loved frontwoman sported a new shorter 'do in Kool-Aid red or Sunkist orange (depending on the lighting), She wore form-fitting black, knee-length dress covered in silvery glitter sparkles that shimmered as she shimmied around the stage to the beat, giving the impression that Beth Ditto is not the centre of the universe, but the universe itself...and we mere mortals are all just playing at her game."
