Passion Pit (more by Tim Griffin)
Passion Put

Not quite on the scale of their last NYC music event (that I know about), but Diesel Jeans's U:Music tour will visit NYC for a show at Webster Hall on Thursday, July 30th. The lineup for that includes The Roots (with a special guest), Drake, Cobra Starship (huh?), Passion Pit, Theophilus London, and contest winners (two bands won a contest to get on the bill) The Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt! (as seen HERE and HERE) and Heartsrevolution. "To get in, one has to appear at the store's participating NYC locations wearing a pair of Diesel jeans, though tickets are limited."

All Diesel fans will have a chance to witness this private event with a limited amount of invitations to be given away at participating Diesel stores. One must show up to participating stores in a pair of Diesel jeans to qualify...

Little Boots

Little Boots, aka UK singer and Warner/Atlantic Records signee Victoria Hesketh, performed at her sole scheduled U.S. appearance last night (Monday, May 18th) at (Le) Poisson Rouge in NYC. Her previous visit to our country was for SXSW, and she was last in NY for a show at Studio B in February. You also may have caught her during CMJ.

Local dance punks Heartsrevolution opened the show, performing on LPR's circular stage which was somewhat awkwardly placed in the center of the main room. Singer Lo barked over the band's dueling synth and drums in a set that ended with dreamy pop tune "Digital Suicide."

Little Boots took the stage with similar drum and synth accompaniment, but one that produced a decidedly poppier sound. The singer, dressed in gold, spoke minimally during her 10-song set, instead communicating through the songs of her forthcoming album, Hands, due in June. The tracks were all polished, poppy and danceable. The singer worked the intimate space well, despite the packed, but not 100% party-ready Monday crowd (many of whom were roped off in a large VIP section). The single "New in Town," which came third in the set, has potential to be a summer hit. Almost all of Little Boots' other songs would serve similarly well as summer-jam anthems.

Coming up, Little Boots has only European and Japanese shows scheduled, though more dates, hopefully stateside, should be coming. One appearance this summer will be at Field Day Festival in London's Victoria Park on August 1st. The lineup for that includes Mogwai, Santigold, Four Tet and many more. Full details below.

In addition to her new record, Hands, Little Boots also has a US-only EP, Illuminations, scheduled for a June 9th release on Elektra. All photos from LPR, with a video from the show and other Little Boots clips, and all upcoming dates, below...

Ladyhawke

Village Voice: Besides playing shows in New York, anything you're going to check out?

Ladyhawke: I have a friend there who is a musician and I hope he can show me some things. He's one of about three people I know there. But I've only been there once before and I thought it was amazing.

The bars stay open until 4.

Really?

Yeah.

Wicked.

As mentioned a few times recently, Ladyhawke visited our country to play a few shows. The last one was Thursday night (3/26) at Studio B in Brooklyn. More pictures from that show below...

I Heart Comix

One of the best parts of SXSW is all the samplers you get passed. I know there are a million crappy ones, but there are also always the gems in the pile full of great mixes and great songs. This year keep your eyes peeled for Scion Sample 21 mixed by producer and iheartcomix founder Franki Chan. Franki said...:

This is a mixtape I made for SCION. It's for their remix series and will make it's debut during SXSW and WMC. They are making 500,000 copies and it will be available for FREE all across the US all summer long. I've been working on and coordinating this mixtape since August and it features 13 new IHEARTCOMIX tracks, 8 of which are exclusive remixes made just for the mixtape by Radioclit, Flosstradamus, Designer Drugs, Miami Horror, Mano feat Hollywood Holt, Tom Neville, Lies In Disguise and LA Riots and 2 other originals just for the mixtape by Acid Girls and HEARTSREVOLUTION. Those 8 original remixes mentioned above, we'll be sending those out for downloads as well, including an additional LA Riots remix of The Toxic Avenger.
I've had it on repeat all morning. The Protokoll track is the winner on the mix, but most of the tracks are killer. If this is the direction that iheartcomix is going for releases, then I am pretty amp'd. Download the mix above (along with some other stuff). Check out the track listing and upcoming IHEARTCOMIX show information (including the flyer for one of the best SXSW parties this year), below.....

Bloody Beetroots

As a former music reviewer for my college radio station, I have come to hate the way most people describe music. Flowing, sonic, epic, bangers, ect. Most people (myself included) are bad at it and it should be left to the few who are capable of translating art into words. That being said, the only word I can think of to describe The Bloody Beetroots is jacked. I always feel like raising my arms mid chest, and then just moving them up and down in a jerky motion as fast as I can when I hear them.

The masked Italian duo never seem to stop producing, and they are on every dj's playlist. They are DJing tonight (March 6) at Hiro Ballroom with Pase Rock and Heartsrevolution, and will be playing at the sold out MSTRKRFT show tomorrow at Studio B. I included their over the top Goose remix here and a link to my latest mix which features their remix of a Timbaland song. Go drink 10 cups of coffee and turn it up loud. More dates below...

hey all, welcome Finger on the Pulse. ANOTHER dance-related new feature on BV. These posts will be in addition to what David Bruno does...

Finger on the PulseHello. Welcome to our first 'remixed' post - a place for us to provide you with some of the latest tracks we're listening to, playing out, or....well, we're open to suggestions. We're getting ahead of ourselves though. How about an introduction? We (yes, there are two of us) are 'finger on the pulse' (aka terry diabolik and dj never forget) - throwers of a party at Royal Oak in Williamsburg every 2nd Friday of the month (this week we have the very lovely Ira of CSS guest DJing). Terry spins mainly soul music, and NF plays pretty much everything else. We'll also use this post as a way to let you know about other parties we're playing - like the one at Slipper Room tonight (Jan 10). You'll also find us on MySpace, and via email. Feel free to reach out. Without further ado....

CYOA

On Monday we're heading out to la to dj Franki Chan's 'still fucking awesome' party, so we decided to ask him what was new with his IHEARTCOMIX label. Ends up, he decided to let us premiere a track off IHEARTCOMIX's first release of the year. The group is called HEARTSREVOLUTION. You may know them as the kids behind the heartschallenger ice cream truck that visits many amazing events (not to be confused with Ice Cream Man).

The song is called "C.Y.O.A" (Choose Your Own Adventure) - off HEARTSREVOLUTION's debut 12" of the same name, and the track we have for you above was remixed by our girl lauren flax whose remixes and skills we've fallen in love with over the last year. Cover art is by the unreal kate moross, and you'll be able to buy it worldwide on March 3rd. Pink vinyl will be available through turntable lab distro, and all online outlets. There will also be remixes by Brodinksi, cfcf, Lazaro Casanova and Dan Oh, so you know this is going to be a must have.

keep going for more MP3s and other stuff....................
