Dusted (the new project led by Holy Fuck's Brian Borcherdt) released their debut LP, Total Dust, this week (7/10) via Polyvinyl. You've already heard the single, "(Into The) Atmosphere," and if you liked that song, you'll enjoy the whole record, which pretty much follows suit. It's mainly a collection of sweet-voiced indie pop with bright clean tones and a backgrounded drum machine. But it's not just a pop record -- some of the songs (especially the album's opening track "All Comes Down") drift towards haunting slowcore, and Brian often coats his voice in a light distortion and can give his guitar an even thicker one. As mentioned, Dusted will be in NYC for a show at Glasslands on Sunday (7/15) (tickets), but since we last spoke, Dusted announced a NYC show which happens even sooner than that. They'll play Cake Shop on Thursday (7/12) with Happy New Year and one more TBA.

The 2012 edition of Calgary, Alberta festival Sled Island is set to take place from June 20-23 at venues throughout the city. This year includes over 200 bands performing at 30 venues plus a large comedy schedule, film screenings, and art shows.
Sled Island 2012 will once again use outdoor venue Olympic Plaza as its main stage, featuring performances by Feist, The Hold Steady, Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, The Dudes, Shabazz Palaces, Parlovr, and others.
Acts including Russian Circles, Hot Snakes, The Antlers, Boris, Thurston Moore, Willis Earl Beal, Trust, Yamantaka // Sonic Titan, Terry Malts, Neil Hamburger, How To Dress Well, The Evaporators (aka Nardwuar's band), DJ Jonathan Toubin, Hannibal Buress, Andrew W.K., Tim Heidecker, Archers of Loaf, and many more will be performing at various bars and venues. As mentioned in What's Going on Thursday?, High Places play Glasslands tonight (8/18) with Soft Circle (featuring Hisham Bharoocha formerly of Lightning Bolt and Black Dice), Zambri, and Driphouse. Tickets are still on sale.
Zambri, who are also on the Glasslands bill tonight, recently signed to Kanine Records. They were set to play Summerscreen in McCarren Park on 8/3 along with a screening of Clueless but the show was rained out. It's since been rescheduled for August 24 at McCarren Park. The band are set to release their debut EP Glossolalia on November 8 via the label. They'll play a record release show at Glasslands on November 3. Tickets for that show are on sale now. Happy New Year aka Eleanor Logan of Adult Themes, who is on the DbA bill with Black Pus, also plays Out in the Streets Festival which takes place on August 27 and 28 at Brooklyn Fireproof. Other artists on the festival include NewVillager, Lemonade, Janka Nabay, The Forms, Computer Magic, Magic Mountain, Physical Therapy, Milagres, Mi Ami, and more. A flier for the festival is below.
