Long-running metallers Prong will be going on tour this year. A long tour. A really long tour. Starting in July, Tommy Victor and his two compatriots will start their epic trek in Italy and will loop around the European festival circuit. Then they'll fly back to the US with an occasional co-headlining slate with vet thrashers Overkill. To wrap things up, Overkill and Prong will do another Euro run, ending up in the Netherlands. Total number of dates: 64. Total number of days: 116. Total haul: So much Frequent Flyer swag. Check out the full list of dates below.
Prong have kept surprisingly busy since reforming in 2002 after an initial run from 1986 to 1997 that saw the band break out thanks to post-thrash classic and request-line favorite "Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck." The outfit started life as something of a crossover act before finding the groove and machine precision of industrial. Unfortunately, over their career, they've been something of a revolving door when it comes to membership. Still, they've had their share of impressive musicians including Paul Raven (Killing Joke), Ted Parsons (Swans), and Troy Gregory (Flotsam and Jetsam). Current bassist Jason Christopher joined the group in 2012 and Arturo "Art" Cruz in 2014. But, through it all, singer/guitarist Tommy Victor has been the lone Prong constant while splitting time as Danzig's shredder. No word if Victor will be handling six-string duties for the reformed Samhain at Riot Fest.
On September 30, Prong will hit Gramercy Theatre in NYC sans Overkill. Ticket details are TBA for that one, but tickets are on sale for the show they play with Overkill at Starland Ballroom in NJ three days earlier.
In August, Overkill join Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, D.R.I., Exodus, Municipal Waste, Body Count (who also have a Gramercy Theatre show coming up), Voivod, Hatebreed, Madball, Fucked Up and many more for the three day "Heavy Montreal" festival. Get yourself to Canada.
All Prong dates along with a cut from Prong's newest album Ruining Lives and a few classics appear below.

The first wave of bands have been confirmed for the 5th Annual GWAR-B-Q. Held in Richmond, Virginia at Hadad's Lake on August 16, the fest will feature a lineup including Body Count, Meatmen, Iron Reagan, Goatwhore, Noisem, and Hatebreed, the last of which you can catch on May 17 at the Black N' Blue Bowl. Ticket details are still TBA for the GWAR-B-Q but a full list of bands is below.
The Ice T-led Body Count's appearance is being billed as "very special," with the press release adding, "...TV executives were bribed and beaten to get Ice T off the set of Law and Order SVU." The group have their fifth LP, Manslaughter, scheduled for release this year.
In addition to the live show, it was also announced that GWAR-B-Q will be preceded by a free-to-attend Dave Brockie memorial taking place on August 15, 4 PM to 7 PM, at the same grounds as the fest. The press release notes:
Fans, friends, family and bohabs will have the opportunity to pay their respects, as they drunkenly toast with a GWAR Beer in one hand, while wearing the commemorative Dave Brockie Fund vomit stained t-shirt as Oderus Urungus is set ablaze in a Viking Funeral Pyre on the lake.Dave Brockie, GWAR's singer and longest serving member, passed away last month. A fund was set up in his honor which you can find more information on here.
Catch the full band list, the GWAR-B-Q commercial, a Body Count set from 1992, and, for kicks, that one Black Sabbath song with Ice T on it (no, really) below.
New York hardcore festival Black N' Blue Bowl returns this year for two nights at The Well (5/17 & 5/18) in May. The lineup features d-beat pioneers Discharge headlining the second day, plus NYHC vets Agnostic Front performing with their Cause For Alarm lineup both nights. Other bands playing include Power Trip, Incendiary, 7 Seconds, All Out War, Beyond (reunion), Against the Grain (reunion), NYC punk vets Kraut, Sworn Enemy, Take Offense and more. And in what may or may not be exciting news, Hatebreed headlines the first day and Biohazard play that day too. Single day passes and 2-day passes are on sale now.

Behemoth at Irving Plaza, 2012 (more by Greg Cristman)
Behemoth frontman Nergal is kind of a badass -- he's an extremely gifted musician and a live-performance powerhouse who's played an important role in putting the potent Polish metal scene on the international map over the past 20 years. He's also a cancer survivor; after his 2010 leukemia diagnosis, he underwent chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. Two years later, Behemoth were back on the road and plowing through high-energy live sets like nothing had happened. Again, badass.
Behemoth announced a 2014 release for The Satanist -- their tenth album, and their first in half a decade -- a few months ago. I admittedly haven't been too excited by their last few efforts, but after watching the NSFW video for leadoff single "Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel" (streaming below), my enthusiasm for the band has been rekindled. It's far moodier and more patient composition than the cluttered, robotic death/black metal that they've produced recently. They can still put the hammer down when they need to, though; the song's final minute is both the catchiest and most intense moment I've heard them produce since the mid-aughts. The video is pretty cool too, especially if you're into artsy black-and-white shots of evil rituals happening in slow motion.
In related news, Behemoth were also recently announced as part of the initial lineup for the 2014 edition of France's Hellfest, which will take place from June 20 through 22 (6/20-6/22). The lineup so far is huge and crazy: there's a "huge rock band" stage, featuring Iron Maiden, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Soundgarden, among others; a big-name thrash/black metal stage that spotlights Slayer, Death Angel, Emperor, Iced Earth, Behemoth, and more; a death metal stage that will include Death To All, Carcass, Opeth, Nile, Gorguts, Hail of Bullets, and Weekend Nachos; a smaller black metal stage topped off by Watain, Gorgoroth and 1349; a sludge/stoner stage featuring Electric Wizard, Monster Magnet, Unida, Kylesa, Godflesh, and Clutch; and a punk stage topped by Walls of Jericho, Millencolin, and Turbonegro. Wow. You can reserve tickets now, if you feel like parsing the Google-Translated ticket page.
Check out the Behemoth video and the full set of Hellfest announcements below.
Pixies, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Suicidal Tendencies, Andrew W.K., Hatebreed, T.S.O.L., Off With Their Heads, The Flatliners, Nativ, Hostage Calm, The Interrupters, New Beat Fund, and Pet Symmetry will all be joining us this September to round out this rock and roll carnival!Bummer about the cancellations (feel better Lemmy!), but nice additions, Kim Deal-less Pixies included. Get your tickets, stay cool, and check out the just-released map of Lollapalooza this year.
Regrettably, a few bands have had to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances. Motörhead, Bad Brains, and Attack Attack! will not be able to make it this year.
Keep an eye out for the daily schedules and individual day passes for all of this year's Riot Fests Wednesday, July 24.
Gojira in the Studio
Gojira returns with their new LP L'Enfant Sauvage, the French band's debut for Roadrunner Records (order yours). Close to four years in the making and due on June 26th, the title track is one of the first tastes of the record to slip past the goalie after recently surfacing at Pitchfork. Now "L'Enfant Sauvage" has been given the video treatment, and is available to watch for the first time below.
Gojira is currently touring the EU but after a month off of the road, they'll embark on a US tour supporting Dethklok and Lamb of God. That tour swings through NYC for a date with Roseland Ballroom on August 29th. Tickets are on sale. The band is also on board to play the Mayhem Festival Cruise on Dec 7 - 10 along with their tourmates Lamb of God, as well as Machine Head, Anthrax, Hatebreed, Kingdom of Sorrow and many more. Full tour dates are below.
The video for "L'Enfant Sauvage" is below, alongside a listing of all tour dates.

Troma leader Lloyd Kaufman, The Toxic Avenger, Hatebreed's Jamey Jasta, Our Lady of PMS, illustrator Tara Mcpherson, "Medical Marijuana activist and werewolf" Adam Green, and "Sexpert and Troll-Museum curator" Reverend Jen were the guests of Oderus Urungus at the MF Gallery in Brooklyn Friday night. The event streamed online though I tried to watch it for a bit and the UStream video quality was too low to be able to enjoy it. On Saturday Kembra Phaler and Andrew WK were among the guests. Dusen Dusen reports...
"i walked in as kembra phaler and oderus were finishing up their previous set, singing "take my breath away" or some other 80s jam that i cant remember. she was all dressed up in her usual garb (paint), but with clothes, which was weird...The pictures from the first night continue below....
...they pretty much got drunk and treated andrew wk like a piano bar. they sang songs by billy joel, the eagles, the beatles, and closed with john lennon's "give peace a chance," but instead "give crack a chance." the crack rock got tethered to my chair and it hit me in the back of the head at least 3 times. "
"Fund-raising spectacular CRACK-A-THON set to be unleashed this Friday and Saturday nights! Watch it all stream live at CRACKATHON.TV. Join the "Crack-Munity" and donate your hard-earned cash for a truly great cause...your entertainment future! With a final flourish, GWAR prepares to forever change the face of fund-raising, with their CRACK-A-THON 2010! With less than 24 hours left until the beginning of the all-free web-streaming event, the MF Gallery was the scene of laconic activity as drug-addled slaves lurched about, all seemingly clueless. But this final schedule of celebrity guests was nevertheless semi-enthusiastically announced! The full schedule with guests and whole bunch of new tour dates (including that previously mentioned gig at Starland Ballroom), below...

Consider this the "Swedish Death Metal" edition as we'll focus on a few bands that have taken cues from the great sounds of Entombed, Dismember, Grave, and so many others. As such, lets start off with Fatalist! Though they hail from the land of sun and surf (California), Fatalist have nailed the tone of early (Stockholm) Swedish Death Metal sound, putting their own spin in their songwriting. Featuring ex members of Exhumed, Fatalist's debut album The Depths of Inhumanity is out on 11/23 via Ibex Moon and for a taste of the killer riffs that the band has cooked up, dig on "Internal Misery" above.
Lets get it out of the way, Nirvana 2002 is not a boxset from a certain Seattle band. In fact, Nirvana 2002 is the name of a lost Swedish Death Metal band who will finally release their full recorded output via Relapse Records, Recordings 89 - 91. The band that featured vocalist/guitarist Orvar Säfström (ex-Entombed) have released the "Mourning (Projections of a Stained Mind)" MP3, available for download above after it recently premiered on Decibel. If you love the sickening Swedish Death Metal buzzsaw sound, these long lost tracks are a welcome surprise. Orvar Säfström recently discussed his top 6 favorite Swedish Death Metal albums.
Much like Fatalist, Gravehill is also a sickening early death metal worship act from California. Gravehill's Rites Of The Pentagram LP is out NOW via Enucleation and the title track is available for download above. The band recently played the NJ Death Fest along with Acheron, who are releasing their latest LP and first in six years, The Final Conflict: Last Days Of God, on Ibex Moon.
Mala Suerte doom away on their latest crusty, dimly lit LP, The Shadow Tradition, available via Hellride Music. Download a pair of tracks from that Austin band's LP above. Mala Suerte have been around since the 90s and released a few LPs of their filthy Grief-like psychotic doom as well as a split with Japan's Coffins.
A Mala Suerte video for "Non Servium", Coalesce, Ghast, Eyehategod, Fuck The Facts, Zoroaster, Graveyard, thoughts on the new Slayer, and more as TWIM continues...

You should see his Vampire Weekend tattoo!
The Black And Blue Bowl (aka Superbowl of Hardcore) is back at Studio B in 2009, with a lineup heavy on reunited and classic hardcore bands and headlined by the recently reunited Earth Crisis who, for my money, peaked with the line "A FIRESTORM TO PURIFYYYYYYYYYYYY!". Beware, similar to the previous statement, the following announcement CONTAINS LOTS OF CAPITAL LETTERING:

Gojira's The Way Of All Flesh
Gojira has finally announced news on it's latest punch to the gut, The Way of All Flesh! The much anticipated follow-up to From Mars to Sirius will drop on October 13th on Prosthetic, and look for the band to hit Europe with In Flames in late Sept/Oct (tour dates below). Joe Duplantier played on the Cavalera Conspiracy album, who recently played Irving Plaza with The Dillinger Escape Plan.
As we discussed before, Intronaut are on tour with Behold The Arctopus and Mouth Of The Architect (Deadsea and Wetnurse are also on the colossal NYC bill), packin heat from the forthcoming Prehistoricisms on Sept 16th. Check out "The Literal Black Cloud", available for download above!
KEN mode dropped their new record, Mennonite on their own label, Arctodus Records. Pick it up here. The follow-up to their 2006 release on Escape Artist, Reprisal, KEN mode draws from the glory days of Am-Rep and noise punk, adding a brute force Mastodon-type approach. We have "The Romanticist" from Mennonite available for download above, but be careful, it's mean & nasty.
much, much more below...

Type O Negative (Gonzuuh)
Black nail polish, camo shorts, AND denim vests? Dark lords Type O Negative will hit the road in May with kings-of-the-breakdown Hatebreed and goat-horders 3 Inches Of Blood. Tickets for a New York date at Terminal 5 are not on sale yet, but a Type O Negative show at Starland Ballroom on May 5th goes on sale Friday, March 28th at noon. Tickets are also currently being offered on pre-sale for select shows (not NYC so far). Tour Dates and videos for "September Sun" and "Trial Of Champions" below....
Speaking of Jamey Jasta's band, he's got another one as well with the six-string king of N'Awlins Sludge, Kirk Windstein of the thoroughly awesome Crowbar and Down, called Kingdom of Sorrow. It's out now, and it sounds pretty much what you would think it sounds like.... Jamey "crooning" over Kirk's doom heaviness. Check out KoS jamming on the Crowbar classic "All I Had (I Gave)" below.
UPDATE: Kingdom of Sorrow have some shows coming up too, and it ends up.....they're opening for Type O Negative. All dates below.....
