Circle Takes the Square (photo by Danin Drahos)
As discussed, Gainesville's The Fest is returning this year from October 31 to November 3, and they've just expanded their lineup to include more artists. Additions includes post-hardcore/screamo giants Circle Takes The Square, who have been reunited for a bit but still only rarely play US shows; Geoff Rickly's United Nations, who are also back, but have not been as active as Geoff's solo project; punk vets ALL; Titus Andronicus (who have multiple NYC-area appearances coming up); Fake Problems and more.
Those recent additions join previously announced names like Torche, White Lung, Bouncing Souls, Ceremony, Braid, Paint It Black, Samiam, Knapsack (reunion), The Draft (reunion), The Menzingers, The Lawrence Arms, Hop Along, Code Orange Kids, Creative Adult, Pity Sex, Mean Jeans, Retox, Lemuria, Greys, Tenement, Tim Barry, Toys That Kill, The Night Marchers and more. Tickets for The Fest are on sale now.
Circle Takes The Square returned in December, 2012 with Decompositions Volume Number One, their first album of new material since reuniting and second overall. It's not the instant masterpiece that their 2004 debut, As the Roots Undo, is, but it's still damn good. Download it in its entirety at bandcamp (name your price) or stream it in its entirety, along with the updated The Fest lineup, below.

White Widows at Saint Vitus, November 2012 (more by Fred Pessaro // BBG)
Members of Goes Cube, The Destro, Grudges, and Primitive Weapons have united to form White Widows, a young Brooklyn band ready to prove themself with their debut LP via Sacrement Music. The six-song self-titled effort shows the band's influences clearly, mixing 90s-influenced hardcore with parts that would sound at home on on a Crowbar or Pantera effort. Stream that LP in full below for the first time.
White Widows have a few dates in their path, including March 9 at Acheron with Heartless, and again on April 20 at Knitting Factory with Black Breath and Mutilation Rites (tickets). All dates are below

Trash Talk @ Scoot Inn, Austin, TX
The BrooklynVegan/Power of The Riff day show took over two stages at Scoot Inn on 3/16, and one day of the multi-day Converse/Thrasher Deathmatch at the venue. With a ticket price tag of free and a stacked lineup that included High On Fire, Trash Talk, Off!, Ceremony, Deafheaven, Black Cobra, Full of Hell, Dead In The Dirt, Code Orange Kids, Heartless, and Balaclava, its understandable that there was a line around the block for most of the amazing day.
We already posted one set of photos from the show at BV Austin, including shots of Heartless, Ceremony, Balaclava, Full of Hell, and Code Orange Kids. Here are some pictures & video of High on Fire, and Off!, and more of Balaclava, Trash Talk, and Ceremony. Photos of Dead In The Dirt, Deafheaven, Black Cobra, and others are on the way.
