Coathangers @ Pianos CMJ08 (more by Faith-Ann Young)
Coathangers

The Coathangers are going on tour this October with Japandroids (who will come to NYC on Sept. 24th with Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band). But before those joined dates, The Coathangers will be in NYC for shows of their own on September 29th, when they play Death By Audio's The Maze, and September 30th, when they play Cake Shop. Also on the bill for the Cake Shop gig are DC shoegaze-inspired Prisms and BK's Ex-Humans. For the DBA gig, they'll be joined by '80s-style-punks Xray Eyeballs, a band called Swimmingcitiesoceanofblood (?) and Nervehunt, which features Justin from Teeth Mountain and Ryan Ulsh from Wavves. The gig will be Nervehunt's first show in a while (Flickr has a pic and a brief, blurry video of a show, apparently of them, at the Charleston last year).

Ryan Ulsh was the drummer of WAVVES that you might most remember from his appearance with Nathan at this year's Primavera Festival. Not surprisingly, things didn't work out between him and Nathan, and now the prolific Zach Hill (of Hella, etc.) is playing in WAVVES.

WAVVES' fall tour with new drummer Zach is also happening soon. The pair will play NYC shows at Santos Party House on Thursday, September 24th (tickets still on sale) and a Todd P show, now confirmed for Market Hotel, on Friday, Sept. 25th. Support for both comes from Ganglians, with Beach Fossils also playing the Market Hotel show.

"Toomerhead," the opening, dance-punk-sounding track to the Coathangers' newest record, Scramble, which came out in April, is posted above. An interview with the band from last year and a clip of them live in Vancouver (with an incredibly strange and extended intro) are posted with all tour dates below...

Omar Lopez

The world's worst named band with the most interesting lineup have announced the release of the first in a trio of albums, Cryptomnesia, due on May 5th. El Grupo Nuevo De Omar Rodriguez Lopez (for the spanish-challenged, that's The New Group of ORL) is the melding of Omar Rodriguez Lopez (The Mars Volta, At the Drive-In), Zach Hill (Hella), Jonathan Hischke (ex-Hella), Juan Alderete de la Peña (The Mars Volta), and "features the vocals of guest frontman Cedric Bixler Zavala (The Mars Volta, At the Drive-In) on eight of the album's eleven tracks". OK, can it get any more spazzy? Sounds pretty wild, and judging by the tracks in the below video, it just may be.

Though the first album was completed shortly after The Mars Volta's Amputechture in 2006, it wasn't until last year that Mr. Random Word Generator, aka Cedric Bixler Zavala, added his vocals to the mix. No word on personnel, or release date for the additional two records.

In addition to the May 5th release, " A special limited advance vinyl offering of... 3,000 copies will be made available... to Indie Retail in honor of RECORD STORE DAY on April 18th."

Cryptomnesia is the first release on Rodriguez Lopez Productions, the new imprint formed by... guess who? ORL's last record, Old Money, was released by hip hop indie superpower Stones Throw digitally in 2008, and in hard form on Jan 27th 2009.

The Cryptomnesia tracklisting, cover art, video, and all tour dates, below...

Zach Hill, Performance Attire May Vary...
Zach Hill

Spazzy drummer Zach Hill (Hella/Marnie Stern/Team Sleep/The Ladies) will be in town over the next two days performing "Necromancer" with Peer Pressure or, the second disc of the 2CD extravaganza known as Astrological Straits (out now on Ipecac). So what's "Necromancer" all about, and who the hell is Peer Pressure?

HELLO ! TO THOSE THAT HAVE BEEN INQUIRING ABOUT WHAT AND WHO "PEER PRESSURE" MAY BE IT'S ACTUALLY MY DRUM SET! HAHA THATS STRAIGHT TALK! IN THE FUTURE THIS MONIKER WILL MOST LIKELY DEFINE A COLLECTIVE OF HUMAN BEINGS PLAYING SONGS AND MY DRUM SET, BUT FOR THIS TOUR ITS A METAPHOR FOR THE DRUMS AND THATS ABOUT ALL I'M BRINGING AND ALL IM PLAYING. TO MAKE IT CLEAR SO THERES NO CONFUSION ABOUT MY UPCOMING PERFORMANCES I AM PERFORMING A 45 MINUTE NON STOP HEAVILY IMPROVISED RENDITION OF THE TRACK "NECROMANCER" OFF OF MY NEWEST SOLO RELEASE. THIS WILL BE ME ON DRUMS AND THE LAPTOP ON LAPTOP OR THE IPOD ON IPOD. I PLAN ON PERFORMING THE MORE SONG ORIENTED MATERIAL OFF THE ALBUM WITH A FULL BAND IN THE THE FUTURE BUT FOR MANY REASONS IT WAS UNREALISTIC AT THIS JUNCTURE. SO THIS IS HOW I WILL BE EXPRESSING MYSELF IN THE NOW ASIDE FROM THE SHOWS WERE ITS NOTED THAT I'LL HAVE SOMEONE AWESOME SITTING IN WITH ME! [Zach Hill]
Zach Hill WILL have "someone awesome sitting in" with him at the Knitting Factory in NYC on 11/18, namely Marco Benevento. Also on the bill: Pattern Is Movement and Subtle (their last tour "for some time", they are going on hiatus). Tickets are still on sale.

Hill also plays Death By Audio in Brooklyn with Fiasco the next day (11/19). Hill is also opening for the mighty Fantomas when they ring in the New Year, in San Francisco.

Speaking of Subtle, doseone and jel of Subtle (aka Themselves) will headline the "Anticon 3rd Annual 10-Year Anniversary" at NYC's Knitting Factory on December 18th with Yoni Wolf (of WHY?), Buck 65, Sole, Alias, Odd Nosdam + Jel, pedestrian + DJ Thanksgiving Brown. Tickets are on sale.

Odd Nosdam recently posted a free download of beats from 2002 - 2003 entitled CIRCUS faux PREZ beats! and a mixtape... Mixtape Super Delux. Download 'em and other MP3's above.
