DFA1979 @ Treasure Island Fest 2011 (more by Autumn Andell)

We already knew Japandroids would be playing a Governors Ball afterparty at Music Hall of Williamsburg on June 7. That one is sold-out, but they are far from the only ones in on the afterparty action. There are a bunch happening over the course of the festival (June 7 - 9), which were all announced today.
Friday (6/7) has the most. In addition to Japandroids, there'll be more Canadians afoot with Death From Above 1979 and Fucked Up at Irving Plaza. Tickets to that show go on sale Friday (4/26) at 10 AM with a Governors Ball presale starting Wednesday (4/24) at 10 AM, and LiveNation and Music Geeks presales on Thursday at 10 AM.
Also on Friday night, Polica and Solid Gold play Brooklyn Bowl and tickets go on sale Friday (4/26) at noon.
For those inclined to dance, Friday night also has Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs DJing at Webster Hall. Those tickets are on sale now.
And one last Friday afterparty: The Revivalists, Roadkill Ghost Choir and Swear & Shake play Bowery Ballroom. Tickets to that go on sale Friday (4/26) with an AmEx presale starting Wednesday at noon.
On Saturday (6/8), Haim and Kate Boy will play Brooklyn Bowl. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (4/26) at noon.
Also on Saturday, over at Gramercy Theatre it's Griz, and Cherub. Tickets go on sale Friday (4/26) at 10 AM with a Governors Ball presale starting Wednesday (4/24) at 10 AM, and LiveNation and Music Geeks presales on Thursday at 10 AM.
Only one afterparty on Sunday (6/9) and it's at Brooklyn Bowl with Sister Sparrow, Hollis Brown, and Shakey Graves at Brooklyn Bowl.
And for those who like to pre-party, Governors Ball is doing that too. Kate Boy, Hey Champ, and Gemini Club will play Santos Party House on Thursday, June 6. Tickets to that show are on sale now.
Flyer for the Governors Ball afterparties is below.
Merchandise at Mousetrap in Chicago, April 2012 (more by Jimmy Farabi)

You may have noticed the announcements of CMJ artists trickling out as of late (like Sub Pop's lineup), but now comes the official word from the fest on another batch of bands. Highilights include AraabMUZIK, UK acts Savages and Everything Eveything, Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire, Cities Aviv, Ken Mode (playing with Pig Destroyer), Daughn Gibson (playing with Pissed Jeans), Local H, Slug Guts, Dune Rats, Royal Canoe, and Sleepies among many many others. A full listing of the second round of CMJ artists is below.
One of said surprises is Merchandise, who plays NYC tonight at WIERD (9/12). The show is first of THREE NYC dates for the band, who will also play 538 Johnson tomorrow (9/13) before hitting Saint Vitus on Friday (9/14, tickets).
A list of the second round of CMJ artists is below, along with updated Merchandise dates and a recent video.
The Gaslight Anthem @ Lollapalooza 2009

12:35 p.m. (1:35 p.m. est)That live report from Lollapalooza comes to us from Omaha.com. Sounds like not a blast so far. And there is a STREAM (a poorly advertised one). It's raining in Chicago, which is perfect weather for an outdoor festival. Good thing I brought a raincoat.
Most people weren't as fortunate and had to buy a poncho for $5 outside of the festival. Who knows how much one costs inside the grounds.
While hiding from the drizzle in the media tent, I'm listening to Hey Champ. I haven't heard them before, but they're a sort of pop indie group. Like what I've heard so far.
I had planned to get here earlier and see Hockey at 11:30, but catching the train and walking a mile or more to Grant Park got me here a little too late.
I don't have anyone in particular that I want to see until Bon Iver at 3 p.m., so I'm probably going to wander the grounds and familiarize myself. [Omaha.com]
Like All Points West this past weekend, Chicago has rain, Chicago has Hey Champ, and Chicago has a random iclips.net stream of some of the bands at the festival. Unlike All Points West, Chicago has The Gaslight Anthem (I'm watching and listening to them on the stream as I type this) (they allow umbrellas there).
Tonight's Lolla headliners are Kings of Leon and Depeche Mode. Stream schedule below...

"After a soggy Friday and sunny Saturday, the thunderstorms returned for the third and last day of All Points West, this time resulting in major delays and canceled sets for the festival held at Liberty State Park in Jersey City, NJ. But after the rain cleared and mercifully stayed away, organizers hustled to get the schedule back on track, culminating in a dazzler of a headlining set by British rockers Coldplay. As you may have heard, Coldplay's Sunday night set included covers of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" and Beastie Boys' "Fight For Your Right". Jay-Z covered "No Sleep Till Brooklyn on Friday.Sunday's line-up, scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. in the comedy tent and 2 p.m. on the music stages, was pushed back several hours due to severe storms that hit the area midday. Fans who arrived early were turned away at the gates, and it wasn't until just before 4 p.m. that ticket holders were invited to line up at the festival entrance for an even longer wait for admission. Comedians Todd Barry, Christian Finnegan and Janeane Garofalo, originally slated for 45-minute sets at the Queen of the Valley tent, were rushed through with 10 minutes each to make way for the musical acts that followed them. "I might do a tour of entirely rained-out festivals," said Barry, "it's big money for not a lot of work at all."
Some sets were canceled altogether--indie rockers Steel Train and New Jersey punk band the Gaslight Anthem, scheduled to take the main Blue Comet stage in the afternoon, were scrapped to allow later bands to perform at their scheduled times." [Billboard]
MGMT played against Coldplay on Sunday, and Echo and The Bunnymen instead opened for Coldplay on the main stage (with Courtney Love watching in the wings). Akron/Family, Silversun Pickups, Mogwai, Lykke Li, Elbow, the Black Keys, and others also played sets on the shortened, very wet day. More pictures, and the two Coldplay cover videos, and some setlists, below....

"Though promoters around the country report strong early ticket sales for festivals and summer tours, the recession is causing jitters. This year Coachella, which has the most glamorous reputation of all American festivals, began selling tickets on layaway, and 18 percent of its customers took that option, Mr. Tollett said. With all the leaks of bands playing Lollapalooza this year, there are almost no surprises in the official lineup announcement, except maybe the Animal Collective DJ set... The whole thing below...The proliferation of big festivals, like Bonnaroo near Nashville and Lollapalooza in Chicago, has not been without casualties. This year Langerado in Miami shut down, citing the economy. The Pemberton Festival in British Columbia is on hiatus after only one year, although its promoter, Live Nation, said the problem was permit delays." [NY Times]
