The year-end lists keep coming. Today, NPR Music published their 50 Favorite Albums of 2015 list. As usual, it's all over the map genre-wise, with classical, jazz, electronic, rap, mainstream pop, lo-fi DIY, indie rock, folk, country, metal and more.
It's got some of the albums that appear on most of these lists, like Kendrick Lamar, Sufjan Stevens, Courtney Barnett, Jamie xx, Future, Vince Staples, Joanna Newsom and Alabama Shakes, but plenty of surprises too. It's the first list I've seen with the Beauty Pill album, and the first non-rap list I've seen with The Game. It's also got often-underrated albums from Colleen, Jazmine Sullivan and Low. And there's bound to be something on it you haven't heard yet.

Julia Holter at Bowery Ballroom in August (more by Amanda Hatfield)
The Ecstatic Music Festival is returning to the Merkin Concert Hall at Kaufman Center in 2013 from January 25 to March 21, where it's happened in past years. Over the course of the approximately two month-long period, the festival will be presenting eleven shows, with multiple collaborations between artists that blur the lines between indie and modern classical. The collaborations include Shara Worden (My Brightest Diamond) with the Brooklyn Youth Chorus; Sarah Kirkland Snider with vocalists DM Stith, Padma Newsome (of Clogs), and Shara Worden; DJ / rupture and Zs; Deerhoof with Dal Niente and Marcos Balter; Laurel Halo and Julia Holter with Daniel Wohl; Arnold Dreyblatt with Megafaun; Simone Dinnerstein with Tift Merritt; a Bang on a Can concert, and more.
Full schedule is below.
It seemed inevitable that Adele would be tapped to do a Bond theme and here we are with Skyfall. The movie actually looks like it might be good! As for the theme song, Adele and cowriter/producer Paul Epworth are channeling classic John Barry-era Bond and will be drawing comparisons to Shirley Bassey. A lyric video of the song is at the bottom of this post. (you can also buy it on iTunes)
Speaking of buying on iTunes, that's one place you can get the new album by Flying Lotus who just announced a CMJ show which happens about a week after all his other NYC appearances including this weekend's record fair.
