DJ duo Major Lazer will be down in SXSW for a set at Cedar Street Courtyard on Saturday, March 20th. They'll also be doing the just-announced Iheartcomix/Jelly/Mad Decent three-day day party at Austin's Mexican American Cultural Center.

After that, their shows include Camp Bisco and dates with Sleigh Bells and a number of summer fests around the world. They play NYC's Terminal 5 on April 3rd for HARD NYC, along with Boys Noize, Buraka Som Sistema (MC/DJ Set), Proxy, Destructo and others. Tickets are still on sale.

Sleigh Bells, who are also at SXSW, go on to tour with Yeasayer, who they play Webster Hall with on May 4th. They also have recently added a show at Market Hotel on May 11th. Sleigh Bells' Austin schedule (which includes the above-mentioned day party) is below.

Major Lazer's two halves - DJs Diplo and Switch - have sets of their own at SXSW. Diplo will be at the above-mentioned Mad Decent party, and will be putting on a gear demonstration at SXSW's Gear Alley Performance Stage at 2pm on Friday, March 19th (where he'll be showing off some Ableton, Korg and Audio-Technica gear). The stage is part of SXSW's new Gear Alley Expo in the Convention Center, which is open to all official showcasing bands and registrants. "Musicians can test out new gear there and it's next to our SXSW Showcasing Artist Lounge (where bands can get free chair massages, drinks, snacks, use a computer, or relax)."

Switch has a set at NYC's Webster Hall coming up on June 11th. Info TBA.

Shout Out Out Out

It's CMJ time again. In a city where there are almost always some good acts passing through it's hard to understand what exactly the big deal is about the CMJ Music Marathon. Then you realize there will be "over 1,000 artists, in more than 65 venues in 5 days" and you have yet to even look at the schedule! Get crackin', run around, and get down! While last year's marathon (which featured Simian Mobile Disco, the Black Ghosts, MSTRKRFT, and Justice to name a few) will be hard to top in terms of dance music, this year's is by no means shabby.

What looks good to me on the official schedule is here (though note that the Little Boots Annex show is actually on Thursday). Explanations & more info is below. Also, be sure to read the official CMJ schedule carefully, as typically late night dj events will often be listed under the following day (ie: a Tuesday night dj set starting at 1am will actually be listed on CMJ's schedule under Wednesday)....

One of the best parts of SXSW is all the samplers you get passed. I know there are a million crappy ones, but there are also always the gems in the pile full of great mixes and great songs. This year keep your eyes peeled for Scion Sample 21 mixed by producer and iheartcomix founder Franki Chan. Franki said...:

This is a mixtape I made for SCION. It's for their remix series and will make it's debut during SXSW and WMC. They are making 500,000 copies and it will be available for FREE all across the US all summer long. I've been working on and coordinating this mixtape since August and it features 13 new IHEARTCOMIX tracks, 8 of which are exclusive remixes made just for the mixtape by Radioclit, Flosstradamus, Designer Drugs, Miami Horror, Mano feat Hollywood Holt, Tom Neville, Lies In Disguise and LA Riots and 2 other originals just for the mixtape by Acid Girls and HEARTSREVOLUTION. Those 8 original remixes mentioned above, we'll be sending those out for downloads as well, including an additional LA Riots remix of The Toxic Avenger.

I've had it on repeat all morning. The Protokoll track is the winner on the mix, but most of the tracks are killer. hey all, welcome Finger on the Pulse. ANOTHER dance-related new feature on BV. These posts will be in addition to what David Bruno does...

Hello. Welcome to our first 'remixed' post - a place for us to provide you with some of the latest tracks we're listening to, playing out, or....well, we're open to suggestions. We're getting ahead of ourselves though. How about an introduction? We (yes, there are two of us) are 'finger on the pulse' (aka terry diabolik and dj never forget) - throwers of a party at Royal Oak in Williamsburg every 2nd Friday of the month (this week we have the very lovely Ira of CSS guest DJing). Terry spins mainly soul music, and NF plays pretty much everything else. We'll also use this post as a way to let you know about other parties we're playing - like the one at Slipper Room tonight (Jan 10). You'll also find us on MySpace, and via email. On Monday we're heading out to la to dj Franki Chan's 'still fucking awesome' party, so we decided to ask him what was new with his IHEARTCOMIX label. Ends up, he decided to let us premiere a track off IHEARTCOMIX's first release of the year. The group is called HEARTSREVOLUTION. You may know them as the kids behind the heartschallenger ice cream truck that visits many amazing events (not to be confused with Ice Cream Man).

The song is called "C.Y.O.A" (Choose Your Own Adventure) - off HEARTSREVOLUTION's debut 12" of the same name, and the track we have for you above was remixed by our girl lauren flax whose remixes and skills we've fallen in love with over the last year. Cover art is by the unreal kate moross, and you'll be able to buy it worldwide on March 3rd. Pink vinyl will be available through turntable lab distro, and all online outlets. There will also be remixes by Brodinksi, cfcf, Lazaro Casanova and Dan Oh, so you know this is going to be a must have.
