photo: Power Trip at Hammerstein Ballroom in January (more by Nick Karp)
Thrash revivalists Power Trip are currently on tour with Lamb of God, Anthrax and Deafheaven (pics from NYC), and after that they'll be playing some headlining shows in the US and in Europe (they haven't yet announced all tour dates). One of those will be in NYC at the Acheron on April 16 with Vanity, Aggression Pact, Razorheads and Outskirts.
The night before, the Acheron will play host to a related show featuring Ajax, Impalers, S.H.I.T., Mirrors and Triage on April 15. The singer for Impalers is Power Trip drummer Chris Ulsh, and both shows are definitely worth catching. Tickets for the Impalers show and the Power Trip show go on sale Wednesday (2/10) at noon.
Check out music from both bands below, along with all currently known dates...

Glue at The Wick - 4/19/15 (photo via Maria Sherman)
Multi-venue NYC punk festival New York's Alright went down this past weekend, beginning with an unofficial kickoff show on Thursday night (4/16) and running through yesterday's (4/19) all-day show at The Wick. Yesterday's show was the only one I caught, with wild locals Dawn of Humans, Austin's Glue, Tokyo's Raw Distractions, Austin's Impalers, Oslo's Urbanoia, and Toronto's Gaucho. The whole day was great, but as far as I was concerned the two Austin bands were the most memorable. Glue played a wild set that had their singer hurling himself into the crowd several times and climbing a tower of PA speakers (more on them and a stream of their recent s/t 7" here). Impalers may not have climbed speakers but they were definitely as towering.
Last year, Impalers followed their 2013 debut album with the Psychedelic Snutskallar EP (on 540 Records/Static Shock), which is five tracks of d-beaty hardcore with layers of noise and an extended guitar freakout that earn it the "psychedelic" title. Frontman Chris Ulsh (also of Power Trip, Hatred Surge and Mammoth Grinder) is a beast on this thing and he was at yesterday's show too. Download it (name your price) at bandcamp and stream it below. A video from their set is below too.
The rest of the festival had the US debut of UK '80s deathrock greats Part 1 (who play NYC again this week), Australia's Rule of Thirds (who everyone I talked to loved and I'm bummed I missed them -- listen here), Warhead, Warthog, Aspects of War, Kromosom, Isterismo, Anasazi, Pleasure Leftists, Institute, Sheer Mag (who put out a video today from their new EP on Katorga Works), and more.
Watch the new Sheer Mag video and stream their new EP, stream Impalers' EP, and check out more pictures and videos from NY's Alright (a few by unARTig), below...
Title Fight at Best Buy Theater in November (more by Mimi Hong)
As discussed, Title Fight are releasing their new album, Hyperview, on February 3 via ANTI- and recently put out its first single, "Chlorine," which sees them diving further into shoegaze than ever before. If you've still yet to hear that one, you can listen below.
They've also been on a tour with Circa Survive and Pianos Become the Teeth. We posted pictures of the NYC stop (which didn't have PBTT, who played their own NYC show not long before), and now you can check out a full-set high-quality video of the LA show (11/29). They haven't been playing any of the new album on this tour, instead relying mostly on 2012's Floral Green as well as a few earlier cuts and one off their 2013 EP. Watch that video, with the setlist from LA, below.
Title Fight's Ned Russin has also given us a list of his ten favorite albums of 2014, which includes the heavy (Cold World, Raspberry Bulbs), the post-punk (Merchandise), the indie folk (Saintseneca) and more. Check out the full list below.
Chaos in Tejas 2013 (more by Fred Pessaro)
As mentioned, Chaos in Tejas won't be a "giant fest" this year, but it's still happening in some form (a "weekend" at least), and the just-announced initial lineup looks pretty great. Bands playing include Floor, Destruction Unit, Parquet Courts, Radioactivity, Nothing, Protomartyr, Beth Israel, Back to Back, Glue, Institute, Marshstepper, Deskonocidos (reunion) and many more. The fest takes place across multiple Austin venues from May 29 to June 1. More bands, venues and other details TBA.
Initial lineup below...
Back in 2011, it was announced that new Brooklyn venue The Wick would open in a former brewery at 260 Meserole St (next to the barely-open outdoor venue The Well), and that venue is finally set to open this March.
Four shows have been announced so far. The first is experimental Japanese musician Keiji Haino on March 27 before he heads to Tennessee for the Big Ears Festival. Tickets for that show are on sale now.
Then, as discussed, The Wick is one of the venues that NYC's experimental music festival Unsound happens in. That fest will have Porter Ricks, Vladislav Delay, Miles, Leisure Muffin, Ital & Halal and Le Petit Garcon on April 5. Tickets are on sale now.
The Wick will also be one of the venues used for hardcore/punk fest New York's Alright. That includes the Dawn of Humans, Contingent, Blotter, Asile and Goosebumps show on April 17 (tickets) and the Hank Wood & the Hammerheads, DiE, Savageheads, The Impalers and Razorheads show on April 20 (tickets). The other NY's Alright shows happen at Le Poisson Rouge, Acheron, and ABC No Rio. Updated schedule below.

Integrity at MDF 2013 (more by Fred Pessaro)
Last week's surprising pay-what-you-want announcement for Full of Hell's mammoth Rudiments of Mutilation was a welcome surprise, but may be the start of a (very welcome) trend. A389 Records is NOW offering Integrity's brand new LP, Suicide Black Snake, for the same fan-friendly price at Bandcamp. While you're at it, catch up on the bulk of the Integrity catalog for free too via frontman Dwid Hellion. Purchase your physical copy of the LP at the merch table if you're in the EU, or via A389 Records. Tour dates are listed below.
In the meantime, A389 is gearing up for "Summer Extinction" in Baltimore, MD on August 16. Featuring a headlining appearance from Ringworm, look for Municipal Waste, Noisem, Power Trip, Full of Hell and Impalers (part of their tour with Vaaska) to all join in on the mayhem. Flyer for the show is below.
The Impalers at Chaos in Tejas 2011 (more by Fred Pessaro)
The Impalers, the more-punk leaning project of Chris Ulsh (Mammoth Grinder, Power Surge and more), are readying their self-titled debut for 540 Records. The follow-up to the band's revered demo and 7", the LP features a pair of new tracks, "Spider Sisters" and "Wrecking Ball," both of which are streaming below.
The Impalers will have copies of the release on hand when they hit the road with yet another Ulsh project, Vaaska, who will tour the East Coast in August. Look for the bands to hit Acheron on August 17 with Back to Back. Tickets are on sale. Vaaska have a release of their own coming with 540 Records, a split with Skizophrenia, though no word as to whether it will be ready by tour time.
The announcement of the new Impalers record comes on the same day that 540 Records readies another FOUR releases, including the pre-Ashes to Ashes 1985 demo by Cali-crust favorites Final Conflict, Framtid's Consuming Shit And Mind Pollution (a collection of early demos), Ego Summit's The Room Isn't Big Enough, and the classic Fun Fun Fun EP by Big Boys.
Tour dates and streams are below.

Gehenna at Sonar (more by Chris Bavaria)
"Sonar has been reopened! We are working hard at getting our liquor license back in place, this should be resolved very quickly!Though some shows have already been relocated, Maryland Deathfest is back on at Baltimore music venue Sonar which announced it was closing on May 4th. Dillinger Escape Plan/Deftones, Odd Future, and other shows are back on at the venue too. Head to the Sonar Facebook page for more details on what's been moved and what is staying put.
We will have announcements about ALL upcoming shows but most should be going on as planned with all tickets honored!
There were some shows that got canceled and refunds have not been offered, we will be giving refunds for these shows as soon as we can, please bear with us!" -[Sonar]
In related news, two bands I was looking forward to seeing at MDF 2011, Hatred Surge and Death Breath, have sadly both dropped off the fest. The former will also not be on board for a previously discussed tour with Miasmal/Innumerable Forms that hits Acheron on May 24th, but instead will be replaced by The Impalers, which contains members of Hatred Surge/Mammoth Grinder. Stream The Imaplers's demo and a forthcoming 7" below, it rips.
And don't forget that The Dillinger Escape Plan play Music Hall of Williamsburg on May 15th (tickets), a one off solo show for the band whose tour with the Deftones also bring them to Best Buy Theater for sold out shows on 5/13 and 5/14. The Psychic Paramount & Psychic Limb support at MHoW.
Stream those tracks by The Impalers, with updaed Miasmal dates, below...
