Back in 2011, it was announced that new Brooklyn venue The Wick would open in a former brewery at 260 Meserole St (next to the barely-open outdoor venue The Well), and that venue is finally set to open this March.
Four shows have been announced so far. The first is experimental Japanese musician Keiji Haino on March 27 before he heads to Tennessee for the Big Ears Festival. Tickets for that show are on sale now.
Then, as discussed, The Wick is one of the venues that NYC's experimental music festival Unsound happens in. That fest will have Porter Ricks, Vladislav Delay, Miles, Leisure Muffin, Ital & Halal and Le Petit Garcon on April 5. Tickets are on sale now.
The Wick will also be one of the venues used for hardcore/punk fest New York's Alright. That includes the Dawn of Humans, Contingent, Blotter, Asile and Goosebumps show on April 17 (tickets) and the Hank Wood & the Hammerheads, DiE, Savageheads, The Impalers and Razorheads show on April 20 (tickets). The other NY's Alright shows happen at Le Poisson Rouge, Acheron, and ABC No Rio. Updated schedule below.

Crazy Spirit at New York's Alright 2013 (more by Tod Seelie)
Punk and hardcore festival New York's Alright is back for a second year and will run at various venues around the city from Thursday April 17th to Sunday April 20th. The line-up (which includes several bands that played the fest last year) features solid locals like Anasazi, Dawn of Humans, Goosebumps, Crazy Spirit, Nomad, Warthog, La Misma, Hank Wood & the Hammerheads and some select imports like Wiccans, Infernöh, Omegas, No, and Stoic Violence, to name a few, making for a strong bill. Full lineup below.
Here's what the fest organizers said in their announcement:
No one thought we would be foolish enough to do it again, but here we are, "proud" to present New York's Alright 2014. This festival will be taking place Thursday, April 17th through Sunday, April 20th, at various venues around the friendly city of New York. We will be bringing together some of the best bands in contemporary DIY punk and hardcore from different parts of the world for your enjoyment.Tickets go on sale on Valentine's Day, February 14---the same day the Acheron's D-fest kicks off in Mexico City. Love is very much in the air this year. Stay tuned to New York's Alright 2014's Facebook page for details on lineups and venues.
Several bands playing the fest have upcoming NYC shows even sooner. Goth punks Anasazi are teaming up with La Misma and Santa Ana's Damages on Friday (1/10) at Lulu's. The show is Damages' east coast tour kickoff and will also celebrate the release of a La Misma 7". All Damages dates are listed below, as well as a stream of their recent EP.
Sweden's Infernöh and Brooklyn's Nomad are teaming up for a tour before the fest, which includes a TBA Brooklyn show on April 12. Dates and an Infernöh stream below.
London's No and Long Beach's Stoic Violence will also be hitting the road together immediately after New York's Alright, which brings them back to NYC for a TBA Brooklyn show on May 1. Dates and streams below.

Hoax at Acheron (more by Sarja Hasan)
A packed-to-the-gills Acheron welcomed the stacked lineup of Cleveland punk crew Inmates, bloodied-Massachusetts-set Hoax, NYC favorites Warthog and Murderer on January 12, a rare showing for the Clevo crew (their last was in 2010). More pics from Acheron can be seen in their sweaty glory over at Invisible Oranges.
Christopher Hansell of Warthog (ex-The Men) has dropped off his top 10 releases of 2012, as well as other thoughts on the passing year. Check out those below.
Warthog (which also features members of Nude Beach) is scheduled to play Worcester, MA at The Beacon on 12/15 with Who Killed Spikey Jacket, in addition to their previously discussed show with Inmates at Acheron on 1/12.
Hansell is also involved in power electronics crew Foreplay who will play the West Coast later this month with the great Pharmakon and Soren (of Rosenkopf). Dates are below. Soren will also play NYC at Saint Vitus on 1/5 as part of the Dysrhythmia/Wreck & Reference show (tickets).
Hansell's 2012 Top 10 list is below, along with video and a list of all tour dates.

Inmates at 528 Johnson, Sept 2010 (more by Keith Marlowe)
Brutal Cleveland hardcore crew Inmates (mem Integrity, Keelhaul) will return to NYC to play a show with punishing MA crew Hoax (who have a new video), NYC favorites Warthog, and Murderer. January 12 at Acheron, so save the date. With that insane lineup, the show promises to be pretty mental, possibly as crazy as the band's appearances with Systematic Death in 2010. Don't sleep.
Head below for a stream of 2007's Assholes Unanimous Presents... in full alongside the new Hoax video.

Systematic Death @ 538 Johnson
While dodging a string of lit Black Cats, half of an orange, warm Pabst Blue Ribbon spray, not to mention an entire room of swarming and rabid hardcore fans, Inmates played 538 Johnson on 9/18 as support for Japanese hardcore killers Systematic Death. The show was one of two for the pair and one of three overall dates for Systematic Death, with an earlier shindig at Europa with infamous Rhode Island band Dropdead taking place a few hours prior, and a third show happening in Philly the day before. I unfortunately missed Dropdead and Inmates at Europa but caught Systematic Death there. Later, I would catch Inmates at 538 Johnson.
And yes that's Keelhaul guitarist Chris Smith with Inmates. Keelhaul will be back in NYC on 10/10 with COC and Today Is The Day (tickets are still on sale).
Video from Dropdead's appearance in Philly on Friday (9/17) as well as pics from 538 Johnson are below.
