As always, the lineup includes a few cool local Seattle bands, and it's a good way to check out some of those bands if you're coming to the fest from out of town. One is SSDD (aka "Steal Shit Do Drugs"). They include former members of The Intelligence, The Dutchess & the Duke and more, and they just put out a new EP First Comes Money on Help Yourself Records this week. They make garage punk that's pretty catchy and clear-sounding as far as garage punk goes, but still driving and full of attitude. Stream their new EP below.
Another cool Seattle punk band that
isn't is playing Capitol Hill Block Party, and have a hometown show with Happy Diving and Never Young a few days beforehand, is So Pitted. Their latest release is this year's 1 EP, which is a little murkier and freakier than SSDD. They've had their praises sung by other Seattle bands, like Chastity Belt. They also recently played a Sub Pop-curated show with White Lung, and ended up on one of the Sub Pop staffers' year-end lists in 2014. You can stream their newest EP below and download it (name your price) here.

Unlike the other two NYC shows they played while in town (including the late one Thursday night at Mercury Lounge), Ivan & Alyosha's lunchtime free show at One New York Plaza in Manhattan on Tuesday was acoustic. A set of pictures from that show continues below...

Who made it out to the very late free show at Mercury Lounge last night (6/23)? Kyle did. More of his pictures below...
If you were bummed that Ivan & Alyosha's current trip to NYC only included daytime shows downtown, you're in luck. The Seattle band just added a free LATE (12:15am) show at Mercury Lounge tonight (6/23). That makes three free shows total. One already happened at One New York Plaza, and the next one is TODAY at 5:30 pm at the World Financial Center. More dates HERE.

Ivan and Alyosha & NYC's Living Room
Seattle's Ivan & Alyosha played a pair of NYC dates in March: 3/3 at Bowery Ballroom supporting Bobby Long and 3/4 at the Living Room (where these pictures come from). Since then they visited SXSW, and hopped on tour with John Vanderslice. That tour ends in Seattle on 4/21. In June they'll return to NYC to play two free shows in one day at NYC's World Financial Center. That's listed like this:
Ivan & AlyoshaUPDATE: These two shows are NOT the same day.
Presented by Arts World Financial Center and Arts Brookield
Seattle's Ivan & Alyosha are not nihilist indie rockers, but a new brand of tender dreamers. They navigate the music world contemplating their path as a band, and, despite the uncertainty, Ivan & Alyosha's soulful folk tunes suggest a band inspired, hopeful, and longing, unafraid to probe their collective faith and doubts. Acoustic, 12:30pm. One New York Plaza. Also full band, 5:30pm. June 23 World Financial Center Plaza, 220 Vesey Street.
All tour dates and more pictures from the Living Room are below....

"What is an Alyosha?" - Mark Simanoh
"Named after the main characters in Dostoevsky's Brothers Karamazov, the name Ivan & Alyosha is apt for a band cutting its teeth. As Ivan in Brothers Karamazov moves through the novel with doubts, Ivan & Alyosha navigate the indie rock world contemplating their path as a band. Lead singer and founder of the band Tim Wilson says he writes songs about what's current in his life. He recently married and had a son. Songs like "Living for Someone" and "Fathers Be Kind," reflect the age-old struggle of trying to balance the desire to make music with the pull of home and family." - says their bioSeattle's Ivan & Alyosha are hard not to like, that is if you're not offended by the type of noise that bands like Fleet Foxes, Band of Horses, Delta Spirit and Local Natives make. Download the MP3 above, listen to the songs streaming at their MySpace, pick up their new EP entitled Fathers Be Kind, and check them out live on tour right now.
If you happen to be in NYC, that means you can see them live at Bowery Ballroom tonight (3/3) (they're first of three on the Bobby Long show), and at Living Room on Friday (3/4) (they open for Steve Wynn).
