Lucero in Austin in October (more by Tim Griffin)

As mentioned, Lucero are celebrating New Year's Eve in Boston, but they'll be at Brooklyn Bowl on 12/30 the night before. Limited tickets will be available at the door (and it's possible some are still available on their presale page). Both of those shows and a few others around the same time are with Lionize.

The night after they play the Brooklyn venue, Deer Tick will play Brooklyn Bowl on what is actually New Year's Eve (12/31). Tickets are still available and also available is a combo package that allows you entry to see the Deer Tick show and the Lucero show too.

Lucero recently finished up in the studio, where they were recording their next album, which will be the followup to 2009's 1372 Overton Park. Guitarist Brian Venable spoke to AMP about the new album:

It's been two years since 1372. We're continuing... not necessarily a Memphis soul... but we've got the horns on there again, we've got the pedal steel, you know. It's what we wanted to start with 1372, the obvious direction for us. We kind of joke about it being a "country soul" record, kind of like DELANEY AND BONNIE. There's a lot of that like, FACES, BOB SEGER... You hear about those traveling road shows in the '70s where it would be ERIC CLAPTON, DELANEY AND BONNIE, JOHN LEE HOOKER, and KING CURTIS, you know, just complete mash ups. We've got some rockers, we've got a lot of mid-tempo stuff, but I feel like it's a very mature record. We pretty much just wrote this record, there weren't any extra songs really. We took two or three months off in the spring and just wrote a record. We have a practice space with a recording studio upstairs. We would spend a week downstairs working up stuff and then the next week we would move everything up stairs and put it all down on tape. We'd find out what needed to be changed, we'd go downstairs, work stuff out again, and then bring it back upstairs. Going into the actual studio, the record was fairly realized, which was awesome.

They've said that the new record will be called Women & Work because "most of your life is based around women and work." The album is due in March via ATO.

They also recently announced a two-month long tour for 2012 in support of the album which includes dates with Built to Spill, J Roddy Walston & The Business (who opens for Deer Tick on New Year's Eve), William Elliot Whitmore, and others. That tour brings them to NYC on April 20 at Webster Hall with J Roddy Walston & The Business. Tickets for the whole tour are on presale now. Tickets for Webster Hall go on sale via Ticketmaster on January 13 with an AmEx presale starting on January 11.

Updated Ferry Information

Doors open at 5:00PM, show is at 6:00PM.

ALL Ferries for Passion Pit will be departing regularly from lower Manhattan at the North end of the Battery Maritime Building ONLY starting at 5:00PM - 10 South Street, New York, NY. The Battery Maritime Building is easily accessible from the the 2-3, JMZ, and AC subway stops.

Returning ferries from Governors Island will run approximately every 20 minutes back from the Island all evening. Please note that returning ferries may stop at either the Battery Maritime Building OR Pier 11 (Wall Street & South Street) which is only a few hundred yards North of the Battery Maritime Building and also accessible to the the 2-3, JMZ, AC subway stops.

Passion Pit is not free. You must have a ticket to get on the ferry and the show is sold out. And by "show is at 6", they mean Suckers play at 6pm sharp.

Note also that tonight's Passion Pit show is not on "the Beach". The Beach, where Yeasayer and the Morning Benders played free shows, is the smallest of the three "venues" on Governors Island. Passion Pit play Colonel's Row which is about double the size of the Beach. M.I.A. and Rock the Bells happen at the even bigger space which is more than double the size of Colonel's Row.

This holiday weekend there are three free shows on Governors Island. Note the updated lineups:

• July 3rd - Portugal. The Man w/ Alberta Cross & Hopewell
  (Doors: 6:00 pm/ Show: 8:00 pm)
• July 4th - Rosanne Cash (2 PM - 4 PM)
• July 4th - She & Him w/ Oakley Hall (4:00 pm Show)

Portugal and She & Him are part of the "Gone to Governors" series which is presented by Converse (and take place on the Beach). All shows are first come first served. Check thebeachconcerts.com website for updated ferry info on the day of those shows, and the official ferry schedule for getting there early.

There is also a Victor Calderone event on the Beach of Governors Island on July 4th from 6pm - 2am, so I guess She & Him is over before then. The switchover of crowds should be interesting.

Drake "at" South Street Seaport (more by Leia Jospe)

After a concert at the South Street Seaport last week was canceled when an over-capacity crowd for the rapper Drake and the pop band Hanson became rowdy and aggressive, the Seaport's owner has canceled two more planned concerts there, including a show by Kesha, the pop singer who has one of the biggest songs of the year.

In a letter to Community Board No. 1 of Manhattan sent on June 16, the day after the show, a representative of General Growth Properties, the mall operator that owns the Seaport, said that it had "chosen to cancel any forthcoming concerts in conjunction with Paper magazine," which organized the Drake concert, where seven people were injured and two arrested. In an interview with The New York Times last week, David Hershkovits, an editor and publisher of the magazine, said the magazine had planned for two more shows this summer, by Kesha, the "TiK ToK" singer, and the New York band Ratatat. So to reiterate, only Paper Mag shows at the Seaport are moving/canceled (and they were never even announced yet). All announced Seaport shows go on as planned. Those include River to River Fest's Seaport Music series (which kicks off with Apples in Stereo children's show on Saturday and continues with Woven Bones & Yellow Fever on July 2nd) and the Sound Bites Lunchtime shows that have been happening on Wednesdays (the last of which is June 30th with Toys and Tiny Instruments Band).

In related news, one of the "Play Me, I'm Yours" pianos is set up at the Seaport (and so far nobody has thrown it off a balcony or anything). Videos of people playing that (including J Roddy Walston and The Business) are below...
