The Mystery Science Theater 3000 reboot has one day left on its Kickstarter campaign and is about $1 million away from reaching it's ultimate goal of $5.5 million to produce an entire 12 episode season (they've got enough for nine right now). There's going to be a "Final Countdown" telethon broadcast live from Los Angeles on Friday (12/11) beginning at 5 PM PST (that's 8 PM Eastern) with creator Joel Hodgson hosting and showing classic episodes. Folks in NYC can attend a "Final Countdown" viewing party at Kickstarter's Brooklyn Headquarters (58 Kent St. in Greenpoint). You do need to RSVP.
Back to the show. Since we last posted, there have been a lot of updates. Felicia Day, of Supernatural and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, will be the new main mad scientist, Kinga Forrester (daughter of Dr. Clayton Forrester from the original series). At her side will be Patton Oswalt in a TV's Frank type roll. They'll be the ones torturing new host Jonah Ray and his robot friends Crow (Hampton Yount) and Tom Servo (Baron Vaughn).
Creator Joel Hodgson has also announced the behind-the-scenes staff, which is rather amazing. Dan Harmon (Community, Rick & Morty), Justin Roiland (Rick & Morty), Dana Gould (The Simpsons, Super Adventure Team), Rob Schrab (who's directing the new LEGO Movie), and author Ernest Cline (Ready Player One) will all contribute jokes, though they aren't on the official writing staff. Robert Lopez, who cowrote Frozen's "Let It Go", will be on board for songs, and original MST3K theme song writer Charlie Erickson is returning.
Hodgson has also said that Jack Black, Joel Mchale, Bill Hader, Neil Patrick Harris, Jerry Seinfeld and Mark Hamill have all expressed interest in making appearances on the show. It all sounds very promising for a show that remains primarily about people hurling jokes at really bad movies.

Everyone's favorite movie about fourth-grade rock stars, School of Rock, is coming to Broadway in 2015, reports The Hollywood Reporter. The Richard Linklater-directed, Jack Black-starring film is getting a musical makeover courtesy of Jesus Christ Superstar/Phantom of the Opera/etc composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, and he'll be getting some help from Green Day producer Rob Cavallo too. Laurence Connor is directing the show, and Glenn Slater is handling lyrics. It's gonna be a really tough project, you're gonna have to use your head, your brain and your mind too.
Rolling Stone points out that Webber had the following to say:
It is a joy for me to return to my Jesus Christ Superstar roots. When Deep Purple's Ian Gillan was recording Jesus for Tim Rice and me at London's Olympic Studios, Led Zeppelin was recording next door and a glimpse of a Stone or two was routine! School of Rock is hugely about how music can empower kids.Previews will begin on November 2 at the Winter Garden Theatre, and it's scheduled to officially open on December 6.
School of Rock is also getting a TV adaptation, which is scheduled to air this spring on Nickelodeon. Linklater's executive producing the show with School of Rock producer Scott Rudin. Writing team Jim and Steve Armogida will write and run it. And as Rolling Stone points out, Miranda Cosgrove, who played SoR character Summer Hathaway, also became a Nickelodeon star of her own later on, so maybe she'll have something to do with this.

When we last saw Off!, in the video for "Over Our Heads," the band (well, most of them) and Jack Black had survived a disastrous skydiving trip only to be confronted by an angry grizzly. We pick up the story now in Off!'s "Meet Your God" video. Can Keith Morris and Jack survive in the wild? Will you ever hear the phrase "are we having spaghetti again?" in quite the same way ever again? Watch the video below.

Skydiving on acid might sound like a pretty cool idea to some but OFF! offer up the dark side to this what-could-possibly-go-wrong situation in their new video for "Over Our Heads" from this year's Wasted Years. In addition to the band, the video (directed by animation vet Jimmy Hayward) stars Jack Black as the skydiving instructor. You get the gonzo Jack Black experience here, in a good way (and, yes, there is a good way). It's as much a short film as a video, full of Circle Jerks jabs, gore, and other in-jokes, and well worth the five minutes. Watch it below, and be on the lookout out for the second half of the story in the "Meet Your God" video which is coming soon.

Tenacious D fans in NYC (more by Chris La Putt)
Las Vegas police confirmed Sunday night that at least one suspect was arrested in connection with a stabbing at a concert at the House of Blues that left at least one man injured. This was the same night someone sprayed mace at a Fiona Apple show.
Police spokesman Jose Hernandez said there were conflicting reports, but it appeared two suspects were arrested Saturday night at the Tenacious D show inside the Mandalay Bay music venue.
Hernandez said one or two injured concertgoers were transported to University Medical Center with injuries not considered life threatening. He did not know the identity of the suspects nor what charge or charges they could face.
Hernandez said the concertgoers fought prior to the bloodshed.
"There was some sort of altercation that led up to the stabbing," he said.
An eyewitness said there was a violent incident about halfway through the Tenacious D show.

Tenacious D at Hammerstein Ballroom - 6/28/12
Tenacious D (aka Jack Black & Kyle Gass) brought their comedic hard rock to NYC for a show at Hammerstein Ballroom last night (6/28) as part of their a tour with The Sights. Taking the stage in front of the especially phallic "Fenix" which graces their new album cover, they split the set pretty evenly between their three full lengths, including the recently released Rize of the Fenix, which hit shelves last month, and did a medley of The Who covers. Tenacious D and The Sights will do it again at Hammerstein tonight (6/29). Tickets for tonight's show are still available.
Unfortunately we don't have the full setlist from last night's show, but the whole tour has been pretty consistent, so you can check out some setlists of previous dates along with more pics and a video of Tenacious D from last night's show (and two videos from last night's Daily Show appearance) below...

Tenacious D @ SXSW 2012 (cicatriz83)
Jack Black & Kyle Gass aka Tenacious D, who just stopped in Austin make their live return at SXSW, will release a new album of (hopefully) funny and rockin' songs called Rize Of The Fenix on May 15. They said:
"We recorded down and dirty in a friend's garage with a shoestring budget of 600 dollars, much like Nirvana's first album "Bleach"-or the Beatles first album "Help". Rough and yet a masterpiece."May tour dates in support of that masterpiece were previously announced and include the Sasquach Festival.
It has now been reported that the duo will be heading out on a summer tour that brings them back to NYC to rock our socks off at Hammerstein Ballroom on June 28th! Tickets ($55) for the NYC show go on sale Friday, 3/30, at 10am. We also have a pair you can WIN. Contest details, the new album art, with all currently known tour dates, and some videos from SXSW, below...
