Discerning vinyl lovers with disposable income left after taxes and Record Store Day will be pleased to learn that the Brooklyn Flea Record Fair is back this Saturday (5/4) at Smorgasburg in Williamsburg. There are 50 vendors, with tables from labels like Domino, DFA, Captured Tracks, Merge and Warp, and also record stores/vendors like Other Music, Turntable Lab, Kim's Video & Music, and Record Grouch.

There are also a few specialty items available, like Captured Tracks' Cleaners from Venus Vol. 2 Box Set (which isn't official out till 5/14), Cass McCombs/White Magic 7" on clear vinyl, and that PAWS cassette that was only available at their merch table on their North American tour last month. DJs picked by the Red Bull Music Academy folks will be spinning tunes, including sets from Throne of Blood's James Friedman, Dean Bein (True Panther Records), DJ/rupture and more. Hours for the record fair are 11 AM - 6 PM and it's free entry. Smorgasburg gets insanely packed these days, so go early.

Full list of vendors, specialty items and DJ schedule are below.

James Pants

Spokane, WA producer James Pants is kicking off a short NYC & California tour TONIGHT (8/16) at Glasslands. The Brooklyn show is with Psychobuildings, Airbird (aka Joel Ford of Ford & Lopatin), Balloon, and an after-party with Co La. Tickets for tonight's show are available. The tour then hits up California for a few shows before returning to NYC on August 23 for an in-store at Other Music at 8 PM and August 29 for a live set on WFMU on Liz Berg's show from 9 AM to noon.

James released his self titled LP earlier this year via Stones Throw. Grab two MP3s from that above and check out the new Iasos-directed video for "Clouds Over the Pacific" below.

Also above you can download a remix James did for "Seven" off Tyler, the Creator's Bastard LP. Tyler loves James's music and James seems to be into Tyler's as well.

One Step Beyond Presented by The Fader at the American Museum of American History

Down in the cosmic ballroom, the One Step Beyond (presented by The Fader at the American Museum of American History) DJ sessions continue, although this evening's attendance might just be down on that enjoyed over the last few Fridays. This will surely swoop back up with Moby's appearance on the 5th of June.

Peanut Butter Wolf's heading up a Stones Throw night, featuring his label's James Pants, Mayer Hawthorne and Dam-Funk, who all returned to play at (le) Poisson Rouge on Saturday. The Californian Wolf is combining laptop with decks, spinning through a very populist, party-pointed playlist. All audio is married to a sequence of back-projected videos, which probably holds some governing force over the selection process. It's a feast of nostalgia, parading through Kid Creole, Prince, Earth Wind & Fire, Rick James, Daft Punk, White Stripes and even the fucking Police. Afrika Bambaataa, House Of Pain and The Beastie Boys bring things back into the hip hop zone, whilst David Bowie, Musical Youth and Bo Diddley stand out as slightly more skewed choices. It's the kind of set that a DJ would prepare for a wedding party. Pleasurable, but also lacking in ambition, particularly when Stones Throw is renowned for its harder niche hip hop sounds.

As one commenter pointed out, DOOM's upcoming show schedule, in addition to the Pitchfork Festival (which by the way is now sold out of three-day passes), also includes a visit to daylong hip-hop fest Soundset taking place in Shakopee, Minnesota on Sunday, May 24th. Headliners for the concert include Atmosphere, The Pharcyde, Brother Ali, Sage Francis with B. Dolan, and Immortal Technique. Full lineup below. Tickets for the show are on sale.

That fest is being put on in part by Rhymesayers, the label that put out DOOM's MM..FOOD?. Another of DOOM's many labels, Stones Throw Records (which put out the rapper's Madlib collaboration Madvillainy) will have a strong presence in NYC this weekend. Tonight, Friday, May 8th. Stones Throw founder and head Peanut Butter Wolf will perform at the American Museum of Natural History's monthly One Step Beyond party. Tickets are on sale.

Also on the bill with Peanut Butter Wolf are Stones Throw artists James Pants, Mayer Hawthorne and Dam-Funk. Those three will also be at (Le) Poisson Rouge for a Stones Throw Party on Saturday, May 9th. Tickets are on sale.

Coming up at One Step Beyond: "One Step Beyond finishes their second season with a blow out spectacular with a DJ set by electro pioneer Moby on a new date June 5, 2009 with a DJ set from Holy Ghost! (DFA)."

Jane's Addiction - @ Echoplex, Los Angeles - Feb 16, 2009 (revolute)
Jane's Addiction

Live Nation and Adam Zacks are pleased to announce this year's line up for the Sasquatch! Music Festival at the legendary Gorge in Eastern Washington. The festival, now in its eighth and most ambitious year yet, has evolved from a unique, homegrown & low key fest into a full blown three day extravaganza. A festival-goer's dream, it comes complete with camp-outs, canyons, sunsets, three stages and new this year, an expanded comedy and dance music tent. The tent will feature performances from comedians throughout the day, and then come dusk, will spotlight electronic and dance music artists.

Already the official opener to summer for music fans, the Sasquatch! Music Festival is becoming a certified monster of a musical event: this year features another exciting and diverse line-up for the musically adventurous, and ups the ante on an event already hailed for its independent spirit. Tickets go on sale Saturday February 28th at 10AM

Shout Out Out Out
Shout Out Out Out

It's CMJ time again. In a city where there are almost always some good acts passing through it's hard to understand what exactly the big deal is about the CMJ Music Marathon. Then you realize there will be "over 1,000 artists, in more than 65 venues in 5 days" and you have yet to even look at the schedule! Get crackin', run around, and get down! While last year's marathon (which featured Simian Mobile Disco, the Black Ghosts, MSTRKRFT, and Justice to name a few) will be hard to top in terms of dance music, this year's is by no means shabby.

What looks good to me on the official schedule is here (though note that the Little Boots Annex show is actually on Thursday). Explanations & more info is below. Also, be sure to read the official CMJ schedule carefully, as typically late night dj events will often be listed under the following day (ie: a Tuesday night dj set starting at 1am will actually be listed on CMJ's schedule under Wednesday)....
