Last night's Deer Tick show marks the 2nd time that a couple got engaged on stage at a Deer Tick show in Brooklyn. The first time it happened, it was frontman John McCauley who proposed to Nikki Darlin on stage in Prospect Park. This time, at Music Hall of Williamsburg, it was a fan. And she said yes! Pictures of the happy couple below.
Last night's show was also not the first time Titus Andronicus frontman Patrick Stickles joined Deer Tick, whose guitar player is ex-Titus member Ian O'Neil, on stage. This time it was for a cover of the Replacements' "Can't Hardly Wait".
Jason Anderson of K Records fame opened the show, which I thought was weird until I found out the connection. John McCauley has played drums for Jason, and they were both Tiger Saw collaborators! J Roddy Walston and the Business played 2nd, and all bands joined Deer Tick on the stage at the end of the show. Beer was spraying everywhere.
Things will probably be slightly less rowdy when John McCauley goes on a solo tour in 2011. Dates are TBA, but tickets are already on sale for a January 19th show at City Winery (not sure if he'll be playing any drums at this one).

Dawes @ Webster Hall

Dawes are on a headlining tour in support of their well received debut North Hills. Vetiver and Peter Wolf Crier are currently both opening that tour, and both opened for the band in NYC at Webster Hall on Friday (11/12. Pictures from that show adorn this post.
If Dawes wasn't still on tour, I might expect frontman Taylor Goldsmith (the G in MG&V) to stop by the sold out Deer Tick show at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn tonight. If you're not sure which one Taylor is in these Webster Hall pictures, just look for the person wearing the leather guitar strap that reads "Goldsmith" which was designed by my favorite non-vegan master leather worker and musician Jonny Corndawg, who is not opening for Deer Tick tonight (Jason Anderson strangely is though), but who just released a split 7" with the band...
"Since the inception of Partisan Records, the label has had the intention of creating a 7" series to showcase new and talented musicians. These may be artists who are beginning on the road to a long and fruitful career or artists who have remained on the radar but have never had the opportunity to have their music showcased to larger audiences in a physical format.Look for one at the merch table at Music Hall tonight, or at one of the other upcoming Tick shows (dates listed below). Grab one of the Corndawg songs now, above. With that in mind, the label is pleased to announce the Partisan Records Co. 7" series. These will be vinyl-only releases on high quality vinyl which will be a showcase of new songs from these bands, or doing a split with current artists on the Partisan Records roster.
Officially, this is the second release in the series, with Deer Tick sharing the wax with long time tour companion Jonny Corndawg. A limited pressing of 1000, on two color variations of white and sky blue at 500 per color.
Deer Tick offers the fan-favorite ZZ Top cover "Cheap Sunglasses" while Corndawg gives fans a taste of his upcoming studio album with "Chevy Beretta" and "Nightrider". These will only be available on the bands respective tours and in the Partisan webstore.
And speaking of Partisan Records, Deer Tick isn't their only artist playing in NYC tonight and tomorrow. Mountain Man opens for Jonsi at Hammerstein Ballroom tonight, and Partisan's latest signing (it was announced like today), Warm Ghost plays tomorrow/Thursday (11/11) at Glasslands with Grandchildren and a DJ set by The Antlers (Valleys and Foxes In Fiction were both also on the Glasslands bill, but had to cancel).

Dirty Projectors tonight! Did you get the free Bjork cover they did for Stereogum yet? Happy hour before the show.
No Kids are opening for DP, but sadly they weren't that great live when I recently saw them (at my day show at SXSW). I heard they weren't that dynamic when they opened for the Dodos the other day at Mercury Lounge either. bummer.
