The Grin & The Chin
After 40 years on the left coast, The Tonight Show is reportedly on its way back to NYC:
A plan is in the works to bring NBC's "Tonight" show back to New York. The plan is to bring the show back to the East Coast by Fall 2014 at the latest, pending the resignation of Jay Leno and his subsequent second thoughts, naturally. NBC has already started work on a new studio in 30 Rockefeller Plaza which is part of an overhaul of the building being done by
While the network has yet to complete a deal, it has made a commitment to Jimmy Fallon, the current host of its "Late Night" program, to have him succeed Jay Leno as the next host of "Tonight,'' according to several senior television executives involved in the decision. The show would move from Burbank, Calif., back to New York, where it first started in 1954 with Steve Allen as host. -[NY Times]

As mentioned, Django Django's current North American tour just swung through NYC, riding on the success of last year's self-titled debut. The band will make their U.S. late night television debut on March 26 on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
Meanwhile, the band have just released another video from that album for the track "WOR." The video, produced by the folks at NOISEY, is a little different in that it serves as a short documentary about the infamous, ballsy Indian Well of Death riders in Allahabad. Do their mothers know what they're doing? You can watch it below.
I followed the music and ended up in the middle of the park, surprised that there weren't too many people there- maybe a few hundred? He deserved a few thousand, at least. During his last song there were flashes of lightning illuminating the night sky followed by a torrential downpour at the end of the song. Some ran away, some (including me) ran for a few small tents that were set up for the sound guys and stayed for the encore song (undoubtedly worth it- wet clothes dry but his voice will stay in my mind forever).Charles Bradley & The Menahan Street Band played their encore during the sideways rain last night as part of the Greene Music Series in Fort Greene Park. Though the show started bright and sunny with DJ Todd-O-Phonic Todd and a performance from Beans (of Anti-Pop Consortium), it grew darker/more ominous by the time the soul crooner took the stage around 7:45PM. Video of the rainy encore and more pictures from the mostly-dry show are below.
Even from a ways away, I could see his bright smile and feel the positive energy shooting out of him. He was wonderful and the kind of singer who's meant to be heard live, in his element there. I feel so lucky that I heard even a few of his songs in person. -[blogonlyknows]
Charles Bradley was fresh off a July 21st appearance on Jay Leno where he helped The Tonight Show's bandleader Rickey Minor pay tribute to Marvin Gaye by performing "What's Going On" with Grace Potter, Sharon Jones, and The Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles. Video from that appearance is also below. Charles' other recent accomplishments include covering Nirvana for SPIN's new Nevermind tribute album.
The show was one of two scheduled for Beans in the past week. He opened for Buck 65 at Bowery Ballroom a few days earlier.
Charles & The Menahan Street Band continue on tour this summer. Their festival-filled schedule includes Osheaga, Outside Lands, Bumbershoot, MusicFestNW, Austin City Limits, and POPPED!, all before they head to Europe.
An updated set of tour dates, video from Leno, and more pictures & video from Fort Greene below...
Kyp Malone of TVOTR at Radio City (more by Chris Gersbeck)
In the wake of the tragic passing of their dear friend and bandmate Gerard Smith, TV On The Radio have added an NYC show at Williamsburg Waterfront on September 8rd. Tickets go on sale at noon on Friday, 5/20 (the same time tickets to the DFA1979 show at the same venue go on sale). Openers TBA. UPDATE Broken Social Scene is opening!
The date takes place after the band jets around the globe for dates in Europe, Mexico, and Canada. They're also playing Pitchfork Fest, the just-announced Austin City Limits, and a few other places. Their last NYC show was a headlining one at Radio City. Their last Brooklyn show was right down the street from Williamsburg Waterfront, at Music Hall of Williamsburg.

Patton Oswalt & Conan O'Brien
"The late-night nightmare is almost over. Conan O'Brien is leaving NBC and receiving a payout--and he'll be free to appear on another network before his contract expires, Kim Masters reports.Patton Oswalt, Aziz Ansari, and Ricky Gervais all recently appeared on Conan. Videos below...
The NBC-Leno-Conan war is close to ending, according to a knowledgeable source. According to the outlines of a settlement, Conan O'Brien will leave NBC and the network will make an as-yet unspecified payment. The comedian will be free to appear elsewhere on television well before his contract expires, despite earlier threats from NBC that it would prevent him from working anywhere else.
"In the grand scheme of things, figuring out whether to stay in a job that pays north of $15 million a year or fighting for some sort of buyout that would also be in the millions -- if not multimillions -- is something of a luxury problem. But those are basically the options facing NBC's Conan O'Brien, who is being told "The Tonight Show" is going to move from 11:35 p.m. to 12:05 a.m. to make room for Jay Leno's return to late night." [LA Times]Conan has rejected the offer to move to 12:05. His statement along with videos of Vampire Weekend and Aziz Ansari on the show (both from the past few days), below...
