Though she put out an album with Anders Parker earlier this year, it's been a while since we heard from Kendall Meade in solo Mascott mode. That changed this week with the release of a new EP, Cost/Amount which was produced by Jennifer O'Connor and is out via Kiam Records. The four cuts feature three very catchy originals in her typical sparkling guitar pop style, plus a lovely cover of Kirsty MacColl's "They Don't Know About Us" (made famous by Tracy Ullman). You can watch the video for the EP's title track and stream another song from it below.
Mascott plays a record release show for the EP on Sunday (9/22) at Mercury Lounge which is her first NYC show in two years. Her band features O'Connor and man-about-town Doug Gillard. Joey Sweeney & the Long Hair Arkestra are opening and tickets are on sale.
Meade and O'Connor will be playing a few East Coast shows together, most of which are "living room" shows. More details and tickets for those are here.
All dates are listed, along with video and song streams, below.
Please come out and celebrate the life and work of Jim Bentley. Since 2003 my dear friend and man with the golden ears recorded hundreds of records at the Fort. This is a free event with a donation jar for which proceeds will go directly to his mother to help with expenses. Everyone is welcome whether you knew Jim or not for this is not only a celebration of his life and the friends that he touched but a celebration of the beautiful music that he helped create. We love and miss you Jimmy. - [via Facebook]James Bentley, who owned and was the engineer at The Fort Studio in Bushwick, passed away last month. Some of his friends and bands who recorded there are hosting a memorial show this Sunday (8/18) at Cake Shop. The line-up includes Jennifer O'Connor, Doug Gillard, Doug Keith (of Mascott & Sharon Van Etten) and more. The show is free but donations are being suggested and all proceeds will go to James' mother.

Game Theory and Loud Family frontman Scott Miller died back in April which hit a lot of fans hard. And he had a lot of fans, many of whom are musicians. Some of them will be playing a Scott Miller tribute that happens at Cake Shop on June 29, which features A.C. Newman, Ted Leo, Okkervil River's Will Shef, Doug Gillard, The Wrens' Charles Bissell, and more. There will be readings as well. Tickets are $30 and all proceeds go to The Scott Miller Memorial Fund which was set up to provide for his two young daughters.
UPDATE: Tickets go on sale Monday (6/10) at noon.
If you are unfamiliar with Scott's music, you can still download all of the out-of-print Game Theory albums for free over at the Loud Family website. 1986's The Big Shot Chronicles and 1987's Lolita Nation are both essential listening.
