Rodriguez at Beacon Theater - 4/7/13
Folk singer Rodriguez, who was once a cult act but is now getting kind of famous thanks to his Searching for Sugarman documentary (which won an Oscar), brought his tour through NYC on Sunday (4/7) for a sold out Beacon Theater show. Pictures from that show are in this post. He also plays another NYC show at Town Hall on Wednesday (4/10) (sold out), the Cushman and Wakefield Theater at Barclays Center on October 9 and Radio City Music Hall on October 10. Tickets for the October shows are still available.
At the Beacon Theater show, which Jenny O. opened, Rodriguez was joined by a 5-piece band, Rodriguez played songs off of both of his full length albums, 1970's Cold Fact and 1971's Coming from Reality, and worked in some covers, like Bob Dylan's "Like A Rolling Stone."
Before the Beacon Theatre show, there was a screening of Searching for Sugarman at MoMA, which included a Q&A with director Malik Bendjelloul. A video of that Q&A, along with more pictures and the setlist from Beacon Theater below...
The Revival Tour enters its sixth year in 2013, featuring a revolving lineup of musicians including festival mastermind Chuck Ragan (Hot Water Music), Dave Hause (The Loved Ones), Tim McIlrath (Rise Against), Jenny O., Rocky Votolato, Jenny Owen Youngs, and more TBA. Says the press release:
Loosely structured in the form of old-fashioned folk musician get-togethers, The Revival Tour is an ensemble collective in which the participating musicians collaborate and jam, frequently creating unique and inspired once-in-a-lifetime moments of brilliance - often multiple times in a single night. "Being a part of The Revival Tour last year in Europe was definitely one of the best tour experiences I've ever had," says Votolato. "It reminded me of why I got into playing music in the first place. The spirit of collaboration, humility, and camaraderie keeps the shows feeling real and immediate every night. Chuck Ragan's work ethic and passion for what he's doing are inspiring and I'm honored to have the chance to share the stage with him again on this upcoming run of shows!"The tour includes a pair of NYC stops with the same lineup of Dave Hause, Chuck Ragan, Rocky Votolato and Jenny Owen Youngs at Irving Plaza on March 28 and The Bell House on March 30. Tickets are currently on fan presale, while regular ticketing for Irving Plaza begins on January 24th at 10AM. Ticketing info for Bell House is still forthcoming.
All tour dates are listed below, along with live video of Chuck Ragan.
