Yeasayer had been posting teasers on their website over the past few weeks, and now they revealed a full song called "I Am Chemistry" (as Pitchfork points out). It's kind of a psychedelic art rock song, and it eventually strips down to an acoustic guitar and piano and brings in a choir. It's certainly different from the tribal psych of All Hour Cymbals, the bubbly pop of Odd Blood, and the R&B-leaning Fragrant World. Listen below via Spotify.
Update: Yeasayer tweeted, "Someone behind the industry curtain jumped the gun. We have more to share, directly from US, in the coming hours."
UPDATE 2: Here's that info: Yeasayer revealed that the song will appear on their new album, titled Amen & Goodbye, which is due out April 1 via Mute. That's the artwork above (featuring sculptures by David Altmejd), and the tracklist is below. The album was recorded by the band with help from Atoms for Peace/Ultraista's Joey Waronker. They also mention that the new song features vocals by Suzzy Roche of The Roches, and it now has a video directed by New Media Limited. Watch below. Tour dates TBA.

Ultraista @ Echoplex - 10/19/12
The experience shows. Their U.S. live debut may have only been eight songs long, but the band imbued each album cut with an air of nonchalant cool. With the atmospheric consistency of their self-titled debut, and the help of some Piet Mondrian-like backing videos, the show was not unlike an art rave. It was an ideal manifestation of their art movement namesake that asserted surreal variations on minimalism are superior to more ornate styles. [Under the Radar]Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich's band with drummer Joey Waronker (Walt Mink, Beck) and singer Laura Bettinson (Dimbleby & Capper, FEMME), Ultraista played their first US shows this week and last, starting at LA's Echoplex (10/19), then hitting San Francisco's Independent (10/22), and finally NYC's Le Poisson Rouge last night (10/24). We missed them last night, but we did catch their LA show and pictures from that one are in this post.
The band will make their network TV debut when they play The Late Show with David Letterman on November 2. They also just made a video for "Our Song," which you can watch below.
That video, more pics, the setlist, and some high quality videos from Echoplex are below.
Ultraista, the band featuring producer Nigel Godrich, acclaimed drummer Joey Waronker and singer Laura Bettinson, are releasing their debut album next week (10/2) but NPR is streaming the whole thing right now. For me at least, it's evoking some serious mid-'90s electronic vibes (Lamb, Hooverphonic) which sounds pretty good.
Ultraista are about to play their first US shows, including dates in Los Angeles, San Francisco and here in NYC on October 24 at Le Poisson Rouge which is part of the Wordless Music series. Tickets are still available, which is surprising given Godrich's CV, but if you'd like to go for free, we're giving a pair away. Details on how to enter are below.
In related news, Atoms for Peace (Thom Yorke plus Flea, Godrich and Waronker) will release their "Default" single on 12" vinyl on November 19. It's available for download now and you can stream it below.
Also below, a video for Ultraista's "Bad Insect" and a remix of "smalltack" by FourTet, plus North American tour dates.

Having worked with Pavement, Beck, R.E.M. and, of course, Radiohead over the last 15 years, we know Nigel Godrich mainly as a producer. But now we get to meet Nigel Godrich the musician. Partnering with singer Laura Bettinson and drummer-for-the-stars Joey Waronker, Godrich has formed Ultraísta who have just released their first song, "Smalltalk," to the internet. Densely-layered with all manner of synthesizers and percussion, it's a claustrophobic little number you can hum along and dance to.
Watch the video for "Smalltalk" below.
hiLike Phil Selway, Thom Yorke has also been working on solo material. In fact, it was produced by Thom's new band member Nigel Godrich, and the official release date just so happens to be one day after the LA shows. Details below...
