What do Bjork and John Talabot have in common besides both being forward thinking European producers with a thing for electronic music? They both will have spun records in North Brooklyn clubs this year by the end of April, and both with FIXED DJs also on the bill.
Bjork, who DJ'd at Saint Vitus in 2014, returned to the same neightborhood of Greenpoint last Friday night to spin a surprise set at Good Room (the new dance club where Europa was). It was the same night Johnny Beth of Savages played a show there with Johnny Hostile. Blondes and JDH (FIXED) also DJ'd.
JDH will DJ again at Output on 4/24, on the same FIXED night that John Talabot and Marc Pinol (not to be confused with Pional) do.
The Brooklyn gig is part of an April Hivern Discs (Talabot's label) tour for Talabot and Pinol around Talabot's two Coachella appearances (Talabot collaborator Pional is on some dates too). Tickets for the NYC event are on sale, and the tour also hits Chicago, Austin, and the other places listed below.
Meanwhile, JDH and fellow FIXED DJ Dave P can be found at Le Bain tonight (2/6), at Output on 2/21, at the Good Room with Tensnake on 3/14, and some other places which are listed below.
Bjork, whose new album is out now, has that retrospective coming up at MoMA. You can get a sneak peak at it if you buy a VIP ticket to see Kelela perform at the Armory Party in early March. Bjork also has seven NYC shows coming up.

The xx in Tulum - 12/31/13 (via @hickduarte)
There were tons of New Year's Eve shows here in NYC, as well as around the rest of the country, and down in Mexico, the Young Turks label threw a party on the beach in popular tourist site Tulum (famous, among other things, for its ruins). It literally went all night, kicking off with some of the label's DJs at 8 PM, followed by Sampha, John Talabot, Chairlift, The xx, Grimes, SBTRKT, Koreless, Pional, Four Tet and others playing past 11 AM New Year's Day.
During SBTRKT's set, he revealed an unreleased Jessie Ware collaboration, "Runaway." You can stream that, along with a video featuring clips of multiple sets from the show, and a few more pics, below...
Shit Robot's been at it for a while, but his only full length album is still his 2010 debut From the Cradle to the Rave. That will change when he finally releases its followup, We Got a Love, on March 18 via DFA Records. Like his first album, this one features a number of guests, including Reggie Watts, Museum of Love, Nancy Whang, Lidell Townsell, The Rapture's Luke Jenner and Holly Backler. Reggie appears on two songs, including the title track which was released as a single a while back and its video can be watched, along with a stream of the Paul Woolford remix of the track, below. That's the album artwork above and the tracklist is below.
As discussed, Shit Robot is DJing the NYC stop on John Talabot's upcoming tour happening at SRB Brooklyn on February 7 with FIXED DJs JDH & Dave P. Tickets for that show are on sale now. He has a few other upcoming dates, all of which are listed below.
And speaking of Reggie Watts, we just posted a video of him performing at the Okayplayer Holiday Jam.
All dates are listed, along with the video, stream and tracklist, below...
John Talabot in Chicago in 2012 (more by Zach Pollack)
John Talabot recently made a DJ-Kicks mix, and he's now announced a North American tour in support of it for February. He was last here playing live with collaborator Pional, but in support of the DJ-Kicks mix, he'll appropriately be doing DJ dates, including a FIXED party in NYC on February 7 at SRB Brooklyn. DFA-signed/James Murphy collaborator Shit Robot is also DJing that show, plus FIXED regulars JDH & Dave P. Tickets for that are on sale now.
All dates are listed, along with a stream from the mix, below...
The big festival season may be coming to a close now that Labor Day is behind us and it doesn't really feel like summer anymore, but of course that doesn't mean there aren't any to still look forward to (though many are in warmer places than here in the Northeast).
One festival that will take an airplane ticket and a passport to get to from the US, but has a lineup that might make it worth it, is the Berlin Festival in -- you guessed it -- Berlin. It goes down this weekend from September 6-7 and includes Blur, Bjork, Pet Shop Boys, My Bloody Valentine, Klaxons, Savages, Justice (DJ), John Talabot (live), and more. Tickets for the festival are on sale now. Full schedule here.
In October, Austin gets the previously discussed Austin City Limits Festival for two weekends (10/4-6 & 10/11-13) with Depeche Mode, The Cure, Atoms for Peace, Phoenix, Wilco, Vampire Weekend, The National, passion Pit, Queens of The Stone Age, Arctic Monkeys, Kendrick Lamar, Franz Ferdinand and more. Weekend passes for weekend 2 and VIP options for both weekends are still available. Check out the schedule here. If you'll be in Austin for the festival, don't forget to catch some of the official late shows too.
Later on in the year, Austin gets the previously discussed Fun Fun Fun Fest (Nov. 8-10) which includes Descendents, Quicksand, Television, Deerhunter, MGMT, M.I.A., Snoop Dogg, Cut Copy, The Walkmen, Kurt Vile, Body Count, Cloud Nothings, Title FIght, White Lung and more. Tickets are still available. Check out the full lineup.
Around that same time, New Orleans hosts the previously mentioned Voodoo Experience festival (11/1-3) with Pearl Jam, Nine Inch Nails, The Cure, The Gaslight Anthem, Desaparecidos, Cults, Rudimental and more. Tickets are still available. Check out the full schedule.
Though it's not quite a "festival," NYC will be bombarded by a whole slew of bands this fall when a big portion of the music industry heads our way for the 2013 CMJ Music Marathon, which runs from October 15-19. Confirmed artists include The Dismemberment Plan, Pelican, Jacco Gardner, Good Riddance, Godflesh, Eagulls, Courtney Barnett, The Long Winters, Savages, Yamantaka // Sonic Titan, Eleanor Friedberger, Kevin Drew, Obits, Fuck Buttons, Quadron, Speedy Ortiz, Lawrence Rothman and more. Badges are still available.
And right as CMJ is ending in NYC, San Francisco will be getting its two-day Treasure Island Music Festival (10/19-20). That festival includes Atoms for Peace, Beck, Animal Collective, James Blake, Japandroids, Disclosure, Tricky, Little Dragon, and more. Tickets are still available. Check out the full schedule.

Forgetters at Knitting Factory in 2010 (more by Andrew St. Clair)
As mentioned, Brooklyn's Brain Cave Festival is returning this year and it begins TONIGHT (4/11), continuing through Sunday (4/14). Most shows happen at Europa, and there's also a free day show on Saturday at the Greenpointers.com Market. When we first posted the lineup, there was a "Surprise Special Guest TBA" listed for Saturday's show, and we've since learned that it's Forgetters, the currently project of Jawbreaker/Jets to Brazil frontman Blake Schwarzenbach, who released their self titled album in late 2012.
The Forgetters show is with Monogold, Clouder, and Quiet Loudly. Other bands playing other days of the festival include Peelander-Z, The Suzan, Eula, Cat Martino, Lemonade, and more. Tickets for individual nights and 4-day passes are still available. Updated lineup below.
Forgetters are also playing a Record Store Day (4/20) in-store at Generation Records with Swearin' (who have other local shows with Shellshag coming up), Doug Gillard (Guided by Voices, Nada Surf), and Livids (whose lineup includes New Bomb Turks singer Eric Davidson, and who just opened for The Hives). Blake Schwarzenbach will be DJing, along with Tom Scharpling and others.
Meanwhile, in other Brain Cave Festival related news, Lemonade have been added as an opener to the previously discussed John Talabot tour, including his NYC show on May 28 at Music Hall of Williamsburg with FIXED DJs JDH & Dave P. Tickets for that show are still available.
All Lemonade dates are listed, along with the updated Brain Cave lineup, below...
The 14th edition of Mutek, Montreal's annual "international festival of digital creativ and electronic music," will happen May 29 - June 2. The festival has released the initial line-up of performers, including Matthew Herbert, Andy Stott, Jamie Lidell, John Talabot, Martyn, Onra and more. Mutek Passports (good for the whole fest) and Weekend Passes (good for 5/31 - 6/2) are on sale now.
Matthew Herbert will have a very busy 2013. In addition to a new album, End of Silence, which was constructed from just one sound, he's got a 130 track compilation titled Herbert Complete which collects his house-oriented productions. That digital-only comp will be out in March and his new album a month later. He's also working with the England's Royal Opera House to create a work based on Faust that will premiere in 2014.
More info on Mutek 2013 is here and initial line-up is below.
John Talabot at LPR in 2012 (more by Maxwell Reichert)
As just revealed in the Sasquatch 2013 lineup announcement, Barcelona producer John Talabot will be making his way over to North America in May for the festival. And while he's here, he'll be playing other dates including one in NYC on May 28 at Music Hall of Williamsburg. For the shows, he'll be taking along singer Pional, who contributed to his album and has toured with him before. The NYC show is being presented by FIXED and resident DJs JDH and Dave P will man the boards. Tickets for that one go on sale Friday (2/8) at noon with an AmEx presale starting Wednesday (2/6) at noon. All currently confirmed North American dates are listed below.
John Talabot also just offered an 'Acetate Dub' remix of Peaking Lights' "Beautiful Son" off their 2012 album, Lucifer. You can stream that remix and check out a list of all upcoming dates below...
Says the PR
On the heels of a highly successful, critically acclaimed sold-out 2012 festival, the Sasquatch! Music Festival unveils its 2013 lineup, which once again features 4 days of music. The festival, hailed as "a model of well-paced programming...in a four-day schedule as efficient and natural feeling as an expertly built algorithm" by NPR Music while Wired notes, "leave the landscape out of it and Sasquatch! has a lineup to kill for," runs May 24-27 (Memorial Day Weekend) at TheWoot. 2013 Lineup below...

The announcement came via an animated video and artists performing include Phoenix, The Postal Service, Blur, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, My Bloody Valentine, Tame Impala, Wu-Tang Clan, Dead Can Dance, Grizzly Bear, The Knife, and loads more. Current lineup is below along with the flyer and video...
Today Pitchfork posted the first half (well, first 30 albums) of their Top 50 Albums of 2012 list. There are some surprises on it, like Peaking Lights and Sharon Van Etten, who seemed more likely to end up on their Honorable Mentions list due to their relatively lower scores and the fact that most of the albums on this list were awarded Best New Music throughout the year. Cat Power and Hot Chip also make it, both of whose new albums seemed to have received less love from Pitchfork than previous releases by those artists. A Rustie Essential Mix also makes the list even though his actual album which came out last year didn't make their 2011 list. And of course the expected ones end up there too like Purity Ring, Julia Holter, Schoolboy Q, Miguel, and more. The remaining 20 will be revealed tomorrow (Friday, 12/21).
Check out their 50-30 picks below...

Pitchfork just posted their much anticipated list of the top 100 tracks of 2012. The #1 slot went to... Grimes! Whether you thought the whole of her album Visions was good or not, it was hard to deny the charms of "Oblivion." (Having that great video didn't hurt either.) Do you think it deserved to top the list? If not then what song should've?
You can check out P4K's entire hot 100 of 2012 below.
Blue Hawaii @ CMJ 2012 (more by Amanda Hatfield)
Montreal resident Raphaelle Standell-Preston fronts both Braids and Blue Hawaii, but the bands are separate entities with their own musical personalities. Both groups like Mac Demarco, Burial, Majical Cloudz and Born Gold, though, which show up on each group's Top 10 of 2012 list which we have for you here in this post. Like the bands themselves, BRAIDS's list is a little more band-oriented and Blue Hawaii skews more electronic. (Guess which one has Grimes on it?) Both lists are below.
Look out for Blue Hawaii's sophomore album, Untogether (definitely one of my favorite 2013 LPs that I've managed to hear already - Bill), via Arbutus Records on January 22. Braids will have a new album next year too. Both were here for CMJ.
Braids and Blue Hawaii's respective 2012 Top 10 lists are below.
Long-running UK music weekly NME has just published their Year-End issue and have named Tame Impala's Lonerism as album of the year, with Grimes, Frank Ocean, Crystal Castles and Alt-J rounding out the Top 5. Tame Impala offshoot Pond comes in at #7. Check out the entire Top 50 list below.
NME's Top 50 LPs of 2012 are listed below.
Rough Trade Shop is always one of the first to list their top albums of the year, and their list is always a good one to look at. This year is no different. Check out their Top 10 list, below...

John Talabot @ Le Poisson Rouge - 9/27/12
Last Thursday night (9/27) FIXED hosted Barcelonian John Talabot at Le Poisson Rouge, this marking his second date on his North American tour -- and his first live date at the venue which he DJed back in August. Since the release of his LP fIN on Permanent Vacation early this year, he has been the recipient of a universal set of accolades and deservingly so. fIN is a complete record, in the sense that every song is its own realized concept, with all roads ending in the same place. No one idea ever overtakes another, resulting in a varied and inspired electronic album. When listening to it you get the sense that there are rich influences fueling the sounds, although they are not easily traceable. This kind of mysticism begs interest and is precisely what drives music fans crazy. Talabot ended up striking the proverbial cord in that respect, and fIN quickly found a home in techno DJ record bags, indie-playlists and hipster sects alike.
That diverse mix is what made up the crowd for the night, all awaiting the highly anticipated performance. After a notable opening set by Brooklynites Blondes; dishing out a hypnotic 4/4 helping of live techno. Talabot and fellow Spaniard and collaborator/vocalist Pional took center stage in front of a sizable set up including digital and analog gear, keyboards and some live percussion. As expected, Talabot moved through most of his celebrated LP, with highlights lying between the lines in the polyrhythmic changes from song to song. The slower material like "El Oeste", shined because of all of the individual elements coming in sharp and distinct, closing in on every moment passing by. While, more of the dancefloor-concentrated material gave into the crowd's revelry. Songs like "Destiny" and "So Let It Be Now" incorporated an ideal mix of harmonized vocals, texture and thump; giving everyone a chance to sweat it out, if for only a little while.
Overall, the interplay between the live organic elements and processed sound found an eccentric musical middle ground rarely attempted or experienced. While impressive, the performance did leave a feeling behind that Talabot is still getting comfortable with his elaborate live format and that there was room for the scope of his performance to grow. Still, being a voyeur within this circumstance is fortunate and if this show was any indication at all, the remaining dates on this North American tour are in for a real treat.
More pictures and a couple videos from the LPR show are below.

Miguel/Jamie xx's crowd at MoMA PS1 - 8/4/12
This summer's Warm Up at MoMA PS1, a series featuring afternoon dance parties from forward thinking electronic musicians every Saturday in MoMA PS1's outdoor courtyard, continued this past Saturday (8/4) with sets from Jamie xx, Miguel, Lemonade, Sinjin Hawke, Pearson Sound, and Zora Jones. This one sold out in advance, and the line to get in was crazy long as usual. Many people who didn't have tickets showed up anyway and listened from outside.
Miguel performed a brief yet galvanizing set with his neon-clad backing band, delivering one of the few "concert" experiences of the evening and giving the thousands crammed into the gravel-floored courtyard something to scream about with a handful of weather-appropriate nü-R&B tracks off his forthcoming LP Kaleidoscope Dream in addition to a newly rap-infused performance of one of his well-worn covers, 2Pac's "I Get Around."Jamie xx at MoMA PS1 - 8/4/12
Meanwhile, for Jamie xx, Warm Up was one of two DJ sets he delivered this past weekend while in town in between The xx's Terminal 5 show last Thursday (8/2) and their Staten Island show, which is TONIGHT (8/6) at Snug Harbor Music Hall (sold out). Jamie premiered a new xx song during his set, and had the crowd going pretty nuts. After that show, he headed over to Manhattan to DJ a FIXED party at Le Poisson Rouge with John Talabot, who will be supporting The xx on many of their upcoming dates (none in NYC) and will return to LPR for a live show with Pional on September 27. Some videos of Jamie and John's sets from LPR are below.
Jamie xx wasn't the only one on Saturday's Warm Up lineup to keep the party going late into the night. Lemonade showed up in Williamsburg to DJ a party at Glasslands with Blondes and Rewards, and they killed it. Meanwhile, Sinjin Hawke was next door murdering 285 Kent with Egyptrixx, Elite Gymnastics, N0ms, Gobby, and MikeQ. Blood Diamonds, who had played Glasslands one night earlier (8/3) with Le1f and Gobby, showed up for a secret late set at the show. A video of Blood DIamonds' set from 285 Kent is below.
More pictures (unfortunately none of Sinjin Hakwe or Zora Jones) from Warm Up and all videos are below.

Speaking of artists opening for The xx on their upcoming tour, Barcelona's John Talabot will be supporting the band on a run of dates in October. Talabot won't be at either of the NYC shows, but as discussed, he will DJ with Jamie xx at Le Poisson Rouge on August 4, two days after The xx plays Terminal 5 and the same day that Jamie plays Warm Up at MoMA PS1. Tickets for that show are still available.
Before John Talabot heads out with The xx, he'll be doing his own run of live shows which brings him back to NYC's Le Poisson Rouge on September 27, for what will be his first live show in the city since the release of his album. Tickets for that show are on sale. The show is with Pional, who records for Talabot's HIvern label, and sings on his album. Hopefully this means Pional will be joining John on vocals during his set, like he's done in the past. You can check out a video of them doing so at this year's Primavera Sound below.
That video and a list of all dates are below...

The xx at Rock Werchter, 6/30/2012
Tickets to The xx's upcoming show at the Paradise Theatre in the Bronx on October 28 go on sale today at noon. Chairlift open the NYC show and others on the tour. An updated list of dates is below.
UPDATE: 2nd Paradise Theater show added.
Recently, Jamie xx was on Australian radio station 3RRR where he made a 30 minute mix which you can stream at their swite (starts at 2hr, 30min mark as Fader points out). And if you haven't heard it, you can stream The xx's new single "Angels" below.
The xx meanwhile are in NYC next week for a sold-out show at Terminal 5 on August 2. Montreal artist and DJ Jacques Green has been added to that show as opener. All dates and the Belgium pictures, below...
Jamie xx with The xx at Webster Hall in 2010 (more by Bao Nguyen)
As mentioned, The xx will be on a tour in support of their new album, Coexist (due out 9/11 via Young Turks), this summer which brings them to NYC for a show at Terminal 5 on August 2. That show has long sold out but Jamie xx will be sticking around NYC to play the FIXED show at Le Poisson Rouge on August 4 that John Talabot is DJing. Tickets for that show are still available.
The LPR show is also the same day that Jamie plays Warm Up at PS1 (8/4) with Lemonade, Pearson Sound, Sinjin Hawke, and Zora Jones. Miguel has also been rescheduled to perform on this date instead of the July 21 Warm Up he was originally set to play. TIckets for that show are available
Lemonade will also DJ a free party at Glasslands that night (8/4) after Warm Up.
All Jamie xx dates are listed below, alongside a stream of his 2011 single, "Far Nearer"...
