The 11th annual NYC Winter Jazz Fest will happen January 8 - 10 at ten different NYC venues. This year's line-up includes Marc Ribot & The Young Philadelphians, So Percussion, Robert Glasper Trio, Kneebody + Daedelus, Strange and Beautiful: The Music of John Lurie and The Lounge Lizards, and lots more. Tickets and festival passes are on sale now.

Speaking of Marc Ribot, he's got a few other dates coming up, including a show at South Street Seaport on January 24 with his band Ceramic Dog. More details on that are still to be announced but all upcoming dates are listed below.

Yo La Tengo @ The Bell House, December 2013 (more by PSquared)
YLT

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows, but here are some highlights...

New Build, Museum of Love @ Me1rcury Lounge
On tour together New Build and Museum of Love share a sound (soulful, serious dance music) and a history: MoL's Pat Mahoney played drums with Al Doyle in both Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem. Let's hope for some cross-pollination tonight.

Yo La Tengo, Antietam @ Town Hall
While their Maxwell's Hanukkah shows are sorely missed, Yo La Tengo will be celebrating the season -- and their 30th anniversary -- with two shows at Town Hall, tonight be the first. Unlike Thursday's show with The Feelies, you can still get tickets for tonight (with Antietam).

Bob Dylan @ Beacon Theatre
Bob Dylan undeniably changed the worlds of folk music and folk rock, and over half a century after the release of his first album he's still going strong. His 36th album is due out next year and right now he's on a tour which concludes his five-night run at Beacon Theater tonight.

Kim Gordon & Loren Connors, Gary War @ Issue Project Room
Avant-guitar wiz Loren Connors has performed with Kim Gordon's ex-husband/bandmate Thurston Moore numerous times, but this is the first time he and Kim will be collaborating live so it should be an interesting one. The terrifically weird Gary War opens.

James Blake (DJ), Airhead, Dan Foat, Mr. Assister @ Output
James Blake just played an intimate live show at Music Hall of Williamsburg two days ago, and tonight he appears in NYC again but this time to DJ.

Jhene Aiko, SZA, The Internet @ Best Buy Theatre
Jhene Aiko and SZA are two of the better artists to have come out of the alt-R&B trend, and tonight they team up for a show together. Odd Future's The Internet should fit the bill pretty well too.

Say Anything, Saves The Day, Reggie & The Full Effect @ Irving Plaza
You may balk at the idea of seeing Say Anything and Saves the Day in 2014 (some of you may even balk at the idea of doing that ever), but if you do want to, there's no better tour to see than this. Saves the Day are playing their 15-year-old gamechanger Through Being Cool and Say Anything are playing their 10-year-old ...Is A Real Boy, an ambitious album from the usually-not-ambitious pop punk scene. This is night 2 of 2.

The Blind Boys of Alabama @ Symphony Space
This gospel group has been going strong since the 1940s, and their last release was 2013's Justin Vernon-produced I'll Find A Way. Tonight's their 2014 holiday show in NYC.

Jose James @ Rockwood Music Hall
Neo-soul singer Jose James is in town for a two-night stand of solo acoustic shows at Rockwood Music Hall (both sold out).

The Pizza Underground, Har Mar Superstar, Toby Goodshank @ Bowery Ballroom
The year's cheesiest tour comes to a near-end tonight in NYC with the always fun Har Mar Superstar, and the pizza-themed Velvet Underground tribute act (featuring Macaulay Culkin) that has extended its 15 minutes to over a year.

Chrome Canyon, Young Ejecta, Alex Pasternak (DJ Set), Evan Michael (DJ Set), DJ Lady Guy @ Glasslands
While on record Chrome Canyon is just Morgan Z, live CC are a full band who bring his early-'80s synth vision to life. It's a very narrow focus -- somewhere around 1982, between Jan Hammer, Wendy Carlos, the themes to Knight Rider and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy miniseries -- but they do it very well. Also on board tonight: Joel Ford and Leanne Macomber synthpop project Young Ejecta.

Pinegrove, What Moon Things, Youth Worship, Railings @ Shea Stadium
When Asobi Seksu went on hiatus, guitarist James Hanna formed Youth Worship who follow in a similar, if more rocking, style.

Slothrust, Thelma & The Sleaze, Aye Nako, Little Waist @ Silent Barn
Bad puns aside, Nashville trio Thelma and the Sleaze make killer riff-n-attitude rock n' roll. Their second NYC show of their tour, this one's a rock-solid bill with Slothrust and Aye Nako worth catching too.

James Hoff, C. Spencer Yeh @ The Kitchen
The December installment of The Kitchen's "Synth Nights" series features two Brooklyn artist/musicians: Hoff with his BLASTER project - he infects drum machines with computer viruses; Yeh, meanwhile, will perform "improvisations on violin, voice, and electronics, presenting his most recent electro-acoustic strategies while revisiting older autodidactic performance gestures."

Big Terrific @ Cameo
Max Silvestri hosts the free weekly comedy show in the back of Williamsburg's Cameo. No word on who's performing tonight, but Max usually lets us know via his Twitter.

For all of tonight's shows, and tomorrow's, check out our NYC concert calendar.

For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.

Tickets for that show are on sale. Smif-N-Wessun are also on the upcoming Mobb Deep show.

Huey Lewis

Browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows. Here are some highlights...

Huey Lewis And The News @ Seaside Summer Concerts (FREE)
While it was never really hip to be square, it does seem like a fun evening to catch Huey Lewis & The News performing their mega-platinum 1983 LP, Sports, in its entirety by the beach at Coney Island. For free. Got some extra time on your hands? Get there early and recreate the "If This is It?" video in the sand. 7:30 PM.

Nick Hook, Cakes Da Killa, H.O.M.E. Team, Flash Frequency @ 285 Kent Avenue
The most exciting part of this bill (to us at least) is NYC queer rapper Cakes Da Killa, who isn't too far removed from Mykki Blanco or Le1f. He's sure to have the place going pretty wild.

Xenia Rubinos, Rizzla @ Brooklyn Museum
Eclectic performer Xenia Rubinos released her debut album, Magic Trix, which is out now on Ba Da Bing. See her tonight as part of Brooklyn Museum's "Audiophile" concert series that is free with museum admission.

Metalleg, The Shackeltons, Detroit Rebellion, Bird To Prey @ Cake Shop
While long-running PA band The Shackletons are the best-known name on this bill, you might want to check this show out for Providence, RI duo Detroit Rebellion make loose, groovy blues a la early Beck; or perhaps Metalleg's glammy, punky powerpop. Streams of both are below.

Kid Dynamite, Joyce Manor, Red Hare, Swearin' @ House of Vans
It's the last US show for Kid Dynamite before they officially end their reunion, and that should make things as kids pile on each other to these songs for the last time. The support is great too, coming from raw pop punks Joyce Manor (who play their own Brooklyn show on Saturday), Dischord supergroup Red Hare, and emo-y lo-fi band Swearin' (who also play another show on Saturday, and have even more coming up too).

Tristan Perich, Meehan/Perkins Duo @ MoMa
The MoMA Nights series continues tonight with a show on the contemporary composer side. Regular museum admission applies.

Omar S, Big Strickt, FIT, Turtle Bugg @ Output
Omar S returned this year with an excellent full length album of deep house, Thank You for Letting Me Be Myself. Presumably, you'll be hearing some of those jams as he gets the entire place dancing all night. Stream the album's title track below.

Habibi @ Fulton Stall Market, August 2012 (more by Amanda Hatfield)
IMAGE

Habibi, Total Slacker, Grand Resort, Young Boys, Retail, Dead Young Friends @ Pianos
This is Week 1 of Grand Resort's Pianos residency, and they've put together a pretty good line-up of bands for the kickoff show. Close your eyes and you might think you were in Bushwick instead of on Ludlow St.

Har Mar Superstar, Sky White Tiger, Heloise & The Savior Faire @ The Bowery Electric
When he's not going to pretend Replacements practice, Har Mar Superstar has been playing around NYC a lot recently. Catch him tonight on this party-oriented bill at Bowery Electric.

The Phantom Family Halo, Old Baby, Catherine Irwin @ Union Pool
Psychedelic indie rockers Phantom Family Halo and Young Widows-related band Old Baby team up for a Union Pool show tonight, making for a pretty good show at a pretty small venue.

Jose James @ Pier 40
The soul singer recently opened for Shuggie Otis in Central Park and soon will be back for a Bowery Ballroom show, but tonight, you can see him in another outdoors environment on Pier 40.

Laura Jane Grace (of Against Me!), Mina Caputo, Allison Weiss @ Knitting Factory
We're still waiting on that new Against Me! album, but meanwhile singer Laura Jane Grace will be doing some celebrating on the road ahead of time playing its material acoustically. The night's especially interesting because another punk singer who famously came out as transgender, Mina Caputo (formerly Keith Caputo of Life of Agony), will be opening the show. Laura and Mina do it again tomorrow night at Bowery Ballroom too.

KRS-One @ S.O.B.'s
This Bronx hip hop legend headlines a show at SOB's tonight.

Talib Kweli (DJ set) @ Brooklyn Bowl
Questlove is taking a night off from his weekly Bowl Train DJ night at Brooklyn Bowl and letting Talib Kweli handle the boards tonight. The party starts at 11 AM.

For all of tonight's shows, and tomorrow's, check out our full NYC show calendar.

Basement Jaxx

"There's a good reason why the new record is called Scars," says Felix Buxton. "Making it has been a grueling process. When we finished recording, it felt like we'd come out of a boxing ring." His bandmate Simon Ratcliffe nods in agreement.
Basement Jaxx's new album 'Scars' will be released by Ultra and XL Records on October 6th. A little less than a month later the band will visit North America to DJ in a few major cities, including New York City of course. Tickets are now on sale for a November 7th gig at Santos Party House which doubles as FIXED's 5-year anniversary party.

'Scars' is full of guest appearances including Kelis, Maleka & Chipmunk, Eli "Paperboy" Reed, Sam Sparro, Lightspeed Champion, Amp Fiddler, Yo Majesty, Yoko Ono, Paloma Faith, Lisa Kekaula, Jose Hendrix, and Jose James.
