Where's la bouef? Ah! There's Labouef and Palko!

Chris Palko aka Cage, who's new album Depart From Me hits stores on July 7th via Definitive Jux, is prepping to take his show on the road after tagging Yak Ballz for support. Joining Palko on stage as part of the "Cage band" will be producer of a large portion of Depart From Me and ex-Hatebreed guitarist F.Sean (aka Sean Martin), as well as DJ Chauncey of XO Skeletons. The tour includes an album release party of sorts during a two night stay at Southpaw (July 2nd tix here and 3rd tix here) where Palko will sign posters and copies of his new album. Additional support for July 2nd is TBA, but Junk Science & "The King of Surf Guitar Rap" Tone Tank are on board for night two.

Cage recently dropped the I Never Knew You EP, which is currently available for "pay what you want" download at the Def Jux site. The EP accompanies the video (viewable below) that was directed by partner-in-crime and star of the upcoming Michael Bay explosion-fest Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen, Shia LaBouef. No word on where Shia is with the reported Cage biopic.

Yak Ballz and House of Blow (aka F.Sean and Daryl Palumbo of Glassjaw, Head Automatica fame) are currently collaborating on some tracks, with one to appear on an upcoming Def Jux compilation. Yak Skywalker also recently posted his thoughts on one of his favorite hip hop songs ever, Camp Lo's "Luchini" (I have to agree) as well as dropped details on an exclusive series of shirts with fellow Weathermen El-P, Cage & Aesop Rock. (current incarnation of?) Lubricated Goat

"Lubricated Goat was an Australian noise rock band of the 1980s. They achieved brief notoriety for playing on a television program naked, with only their instruments. Mainly influenced by bands like The Stooges and The Birthday Party, they are credited for playing a grimy, confrontational style of rock which preceded grunge music....

Lubricated Goat was formed by Stu Spasm (real name Stuart Grey). Spasm had previously been in bands such as Singing Dog with Stu Barker, and Salamander Jim with Tex Perkins....

Lubricated Goat had its back catalog re-released via Amphetamine Reptile Records in the United States, and on Normal in Europe, before making its first American tour in mid-1989. In 1990, Lubricated Goat commenced its first European tour, one that was plagued with tragedy via the stabbing of Spasm in Berlin in 1990. The incident placed Lubricated Goat on hiatus....

...Various incarnations of Lubricated Goat, often featuring only Stu Spasm, have since existed, recording material for Sub Pop, PCP, Sympathy for the Record Industry and REPTILIAN. Spasm also played in Crunt (which featured his then-wife Kat Bjelland of Babes in Toyland) and Jon Spencer Blues Explosion drummer Russell Simins.

In 2007, a brand new lineup of Lubricated Goat started writing new songs & performing them, along with a selection of classic LG songs. This lineup included Anne Mette Rasmussen on keyboards, sound effects & backup vocals, Creighton Chamberlain (formerly of Heroine Sheiks) on bass, and 'Bloody' Rich Hutchins (former/current member of Live Skull, Of Cabbages and Kings, Sugartime, Phideaux, Hungry March Band) on drums. Lubricated Goat holds a special place in my heart due to one recent, not-music-related experience, A few years ago I hired a 'man with a van' off Craigslist to help me move. That man turned out to be none other than Stu Spasm. I felt star struck that entire afternoon. The company he was/is working for is Rabbit Movers.

So, I was excited, but not surprised, to see that not only are Lubricated Goat playing a show tonight (5/8), but that the show (which other bands are also playing) is taking place in the Rabbit Movers-related Rabbit Hole Studio gallery in conjunction with their own art show entitled "Patti Smith's Fridge" because "One time they moved Patti Smith's cast-iron refrigerator down three flights of stairs and into a building across town". Junk Science is also on tonight's bill. Seven bands total play today and tomorrow (set times below).

The three day event this weekend in DUMBO (Brooklyn, NY) will feature art, live music, readings and performance, or to quote them, "all sorts of shenanigans from the Rabbit Art Collective". More details below...

Brooklyn's outdoor venue near the Gowanus Canal, The Yard, has six more events currently scheduled this season. The final one involves Jose Gonzalez and NY Magazine. Two of them are this weekend and one of those involves big monsters wrestling (Aug 23, 2008). Tickets are on still sale for Saturday's Kaiju Big Battel show. Nick Hook, Junk Science, Team Facelift and Peelander-Z are also on the bill. It starts at 4pm. The NY Mag Islands thingee ends at 5. There seems like a chance you could do both. Flyer below...

Last time I saw Busdriver, he was second on a bill that included Kidz In The Hall, El-P (with Aesop Rock), and Dizzee Rascal. Next week, the abstract rhymer will lace a pair of shows both as support (at the sold-out Bowery Ballroom with Flobots on 8/5), and as headliner (at Union Hall in Brooklyn on 8/6, tickets are on sale). The Brooklyn show is also the afterparty for Union Hall's night 'at the bridge'.

West-coast cratediggers People Under The Stairs are also on that Flobots bill and have lined up a headlining show of their own on 8/6, at Southpaw with Iller Than Theirs and Junk Science. Tickets are still available. All dates below...
